Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Griddlelol replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
It's dumb, but I kinda just refuse to do that. I should be able to use whatever controller I want, and frankly I really dislike the 360 controller thanks to the weird asymmetrical dual analogue sticks. I'm going to wait and pray that they release a Souls Trilogy on the PS4 around the time of Bloodborne (a man can dream). If they don't I'll bow to pressure and get a 360 controller.- 1284 replies

PS4 should be coming tomorrow WOOT! Also I have a vita. Oh and: Griddle_lol I have literally no friends on it since I forgot my original PSN (forgot username, email, password, password to any email it may have been connected to) I'd had since PS3 launch. Not that it matters, it was probably a dumb name anyway.

Wow I didn't know that. That's a completely fair point! I can understand why eBay would do that though, less of their time has to be spent on bullshit claims. There's always the option of pick up, but if you're doing that, you might as well not use eBay and save 10%.

I'm not sure how you couldn't have enough money to ship an item if you get the buyer to pay - that doesn't make sense at all and just sounds a bit like an excuse to me. I've done everything like that on ebay - craigslist in my area is chock full of fake ads. I also used to buy broken old Warhammer 40K pieces, fix them up, paint them and sell them again on ebay. Out of the many transactions I only had one problem and I learned quickly to always used signed for delivery. Or I'd post something on my work ebulletin board, that way I know the person will be held accountable (but I work for a big university so that might not be an option for you if you work at a small company).

I think this is why they put dance in there.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Griddlelol replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I think I've given up on DS2. I've managed to get about 90mins of a working controller, but nothing does it any more. I spend another 4 hours today dicking around with different fixes, none of which seem to work.- 1284 replies

I enjoy trinity stuff still, in the context of a regular MMO I think it's important for people to have defined roles. In destiny it seems more like a way to add flavour to PvE and depth to PvP. I guess it's kinda lazy to go with the old tank healer dps roles, but it doesn't seem as neat as that. The initial classes get (as far as my limited knowledge goes) to choose 2 different routes as they level up. One of the Titan's is a tank specialist, but that doesn't necessarily mean all players will choose that (unless it goes down the terrible route of X is optimal therefore Y is pointless).

I've heard of people getting refunds although it's rare. If you call up Sony customer services and say your kid bought it you'll probably get away with it.

Heard the 84-play podcast today, and they're talking about Destiny. One of the guys on there related some second hand information from a "pro-"halo player. I found it interesting because contrary to what I was initially thinking, the classes will have a huge effect on PvP. He mentioned that how the tank class is slow and tough, and will eventually get a shield to buff other players. That makes the tank a...well tank, and importantly a primary target in group fire-fights. That suddenly makes the crucible vastly more interesting to me. Class interaction just makes things so much more exciting and deep. Oh and I caved in and bought a PS4 today. My girlfriend is gonna kill me.

I love my vita
-
Seconded. I've bought 4 games for my vita, everything else (in the 10s of good games) has been PS+. My vita has eclipsed my 3ds which while it has some good games, only has a few good games. It just sits around doing nothing now that I've completed the ones I was interested in. Plus when you look at the vita screen, it makes looking at the 3ds really freaking difficult.

Yup, just like Guild Wars. Incidentally, I really liked everything about Guild Wars except the combat. So slow.
-
I agree with Jon, the PvP and PvE sections are segregated as far as I can tell. Is it even possible to shoot a player character and do damage while not in a dedicated PvP instance? Again, it's just like guild wars (2), which is still doing well. The only difference being instead of 3rd person MMO combat, it's FPS. I'm not sure you can simply say people who like FPS games don't like socialising or playing cooperatively. It seems like a huge generalisation, especially when many people play both types of games.

How exactly did they do the same thing with Halo 2?
-
They should ditch dance and put praise the sun in there.
-
I think you're probably right on the looking. It makes sense at least.
-
Ok, you get off. When I decided I was done with Y I started just wonder trading my perfect IV, perfect EV A-team. Got a bunch of crap, but I bet I made some kid somewhere real happy. Not shinies though. None were shinies.
-
Put it on Wonder Trade. The person who gets it might be the happiest person in the world, or just throw it on the the next person.

I completely agree. If I want to play seriously I just play offline. And honestly, I have a really childish sense of humour, so hearing "Sir_CockInYourMouth" made me chuckle out loud (although Senor_CockInYourMouth would have been better). I'm totally OK with childish humour in my games.

If they initiate physical contact I know they're hitting on me rather than talking to me with no romantic interest. Obviously it's a rule of thumb, but I've never made a terrible mistake and someone pull away or shout at me. It might be different, people are less touchy-feely in Britain compared to America though. Everyone hugs people they've only just met in America which just freaks me the hell out. I didn't know many girls until I was in college - I went to all boys schools since I was 11. So the idea of being friends before a relationship is alien to me. Being in a boy's school gave me some notions are sexist, but also completely removed gender from other things. I think looking at women on the street is entirely natural. I bet every man does it (and I bet women do the reverse) though, just as you say, if you become conscious of it and stop, you're probably doing the best you can.

The first one is just generic MMO stuff, the second one just sounds hilarious. Then again, I kinda like MMOs.

Well it's inspired a lot by Viewtiful Joe, hence why Wonder Red practically looks like Joe also it has the same director. I just wanted an excuse to post that gif.

I just finished The Wonderful 101. Otherwise known as the Wii U System Seller That No One Will Ever Play. It's a tongue in cheek, super hero game, styled after 90's TV shows like Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The art style is gorgeous, and everything about The Wonderful 101 evokes that kind of TV show it's emulating. So for me it hit me right in the nostalgia gland just by looking at it and hearing the cheesy dialogue. You play as a group of people who are individually weak, but can join up to form different weapons that have different damage potential, different ranges and importantly can be used in niche moments to defeat enemies that would take a long time just to pound on. The game is essentially a combat puzzle, in which you use the different weapons to defeat enemies. You can have multiple weapons up at the same time (one of which you control, the others the CPU controls), or you can make your main weapon extra large for increased damage and increased range. It leads to some really interesting situations, some of which you might not figure out until you happen to be using a weapon that is the enemy's weakness. There are also enemies that you're practically told (which is unusual) what their weakness is. Importantly, it's incredibly fun. I was actually getting emotional in some boss fights from just being incredibly happy and thinking "THIS IS SO COOL!" The bosses also end on QTEs. Now I'm normally one to hate QTEs, but these are good. They're simple and they fit. For example they could consist of drawing the hand symbol which then punches the boss. Nothing frustrating like many other games. It has its problems though! There's a lot of mini-games. Most of which aren't fun, and difficult because they're not designed well compared to the rest of the game. The worst part about them, is that you're punished for not being good at them as dying and taking damage affect your score and currency to buy new things at the end of each level. This I found frustrating and bad design. You can tell which missions had mini-games because my rank wouldn't be "gold" or "silver" it'd be "consolation prize" (which is pretty funny). It feels kinda unfair that I'm being punished for not being good at the janky mini-games. It also explains nothing. Some people hate this, but I loved it. It made me experiment and look things up if I did something I and didn't know why. Felt Dark Souls-ian in that respect - you're not told how the game works, so go figure it out. If you have a Wii U, or are considering getting one, this is a must have. If you love Platinum Games, it's a great example of what they do (plus Bayonetta 1/2 are coming out on Wii U soon) too. So yeah, I guess this sums it up:

Thanks Beardo (: Interestingly, people on Gaf seem to say that the remote play on vita is good. That's a huuuge plus point for me.

I'm sure the health bars were put in for a good reason - like you said - so you can see who to attack and not attack. I just hope they have at least kept the animations and AI changes with damage. Also, how does the game work with time zones? Are the American players restricted to American servers while Europe separate? I don't like the idea of playing on a desolate EU server or being forced to play with people who I can barely communicate with whilst restricting my ability to play with American friends. On another note: I found a person willing to sell me a PS4 they "won in a competition" for £275 if I pick it up and pay cash. I'm REALLY tempted, I've just never done a cash exchange with a random person before for such a large amount of money. I'm kinda awkward so I'd find it difficult to say "hey bro, can you open the box for me so I can check if there's a PS4 in there and not just soiled nappies?" Also I'd have to do it in a public place, so how do you check if the thing actually works in a starbucks?
