  1. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

That's odd. Saints Row 3&4 are some of the best PC ports out there, and far better than the console versions (I'm assuming you're playing on PC).
  2. I managed finally, with the help of a rather obscure piece of software, to play about 7 hours over the long weekend. I've got to say, it feels like Dark Souls. The changes aren't always welcome, but some are great. I've managed to down a few bosses and I'm stuck looking for one in the lost Bastille, but hey that's the experience I want. As this is my first real online experience in a souls game I thought I'd give my thoughts. 1) the signs and blood stains everywhere help an incredible amount. Knowing that an ambush is coming, or seeing someone die as they get hit from behind when entering a door has saved my ass countless times. The number of people who roll off ledges also cracks me up. 2) getting invaded is fun. It's only happened twice, the first guy was a cheater - he was permanently fast and even when I managed to get a backstab he didn't take any damage. I was worried that it was just going to be assholes like that. However the second guy came in, waited for me to finish killing an enemy. We bowed and I slaughtered the scum for entering my world. I hope cheaters will be punished (there didn't seem to be a way to report, but I blocked him via steam and hoped that it'll stop him from invading me again). But I really doubt they will. 3) coop is a different game. Had a blast cooping with forum member furyboy. Downed a boss together, and it helped me understand the game a lot. I also offered up my services to random people to help get my life back, which is really cool. It's especially fun if one is a caster while the other charges head on. The cool thing is, you can learn a boss by helping a person out, then go and kill that boss solo in your world. Feels far more doable if you've already killed them once. Not to say that coop takes away the tension. It really doesn't, there's a feeling of doing your best to help another player. There's been a number of funny things that have happened, I really wish I had recorded them to make a couple of gifs. I don't think my PC can handle recording software and a game at the same time any more which is a shame.
  3. Recently completed video games

Yeah, it is. Although I didn't do a hell of a lot of it. Preferred going head on, way more fun, but yeah, sneaking about and stealth kills are viable. I forgot to mention that just like most Platinum games, they don't explain anything. I had to look up how to parry - and I still don't think I understood it fully. I was easily able to forgive it because it was so strong in pretty much every other way.

I finished Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. Another fantastic action game by Platinum - who I think are quickly becoming my favourite developer. In essence, this game is all about the combat, and the combat is fucking good. Like, really fucking good. Slashing away at people, blocking, parrying, then finally entering blade mode to slice them up into tiny pieces. There's usually a really easy QTE in there, but nothing frustrating, they're pretty easy, and the animations look really good. The bosses in this game are really the point. They have excellent sound tracks which reach their peak at the final stage of each boss. The bosses all require a lot of good timing, and a lot of patience, but they're really rewarding. The story isn't awful either. I assumed it was going to be completely throw away, but it was kinda good. Play it! It's good!
  5. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Honestly, that's not a terrible idea if you like everything someone creates. I just saw a big fat "$X per month" and I reacted instantly. Still don't think it's for me: supporting everything someone does seems a bit over the top, but it's less objectionable now. I reacted hastily.
  6. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I obviously didn't read it carefully enough!
  7. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I had a rather bad reaction when I saw that website. Looks exactly like charity, and if I had enough cash to donate to more than one charity, I'd much rather hand my money over to feed starving people, or help build wells in Africa rather than give free money to a middle class video game developer who's currently experiencing some serious problems. I also know I'd never put myself up on a website like Patreon because the idea of people I don't know giving me a wage without a promise of work creeps me out. I think I'll just buy her product for a decent price. Seems like a good way to support her without affecting my conscience.
  8. Spelunky!

Yeah I've started to do the non-daily after I've done the daily. Also, whipped my first arrow. Felt like a god!
  9. Fez

  10. General Video Game Deals Thread

50% off ubisoft titles on the WiiU eshop. Really tempted by Child of Light, but some niggling feeling it's going to suck always stops me from buying it.
  11. Fez

I checked out a guide for one of the puzzles. Holy shit, I would NEVER have figured that out by myself. Honestly, the code stuff is way too hard for my feeble brain.
  12. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Lol. Yeah, some of it is. I think his main focus is on homeopathy.
  13. Fez

Yup, completely related to that. Personal and business information leaked.
  14. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I did come across a woman once who offered Reike (?) foot massages - you know, where the masseuse doesn't make contact with the subject. When I called her out on it, she said something along the lines of "If people'll pay for it, I don't care if it works." Certainly not cult level, but still rather disingenuous. This isn't the right thread, but, it's not just the lowly self employed masseuse that does this stuf: the NHS's support of crazy "medical" practices never ceases to amaze me.
  15. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

The thing I'm most curious about, is whether these people actually believe in the shit they're selling.
  16. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Is it bad that I want to buy Depression Quest, a game I have little interest in playing, simply to make a statement? Picard looks really frightening. Like his face is made out of leather and draped over someone else's skull.
  17. Fez

I'll have another go at it this bank holiday weekend. I think the last time I played, I had just finished a puzzle that required me ti make tetris shapes. Not particularly far in.
  18. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

Kinda understand that. I love competitive games because I get a kick out of the stress involved. Still hate horror games though, I don't like being freaked out. Entirely personal preference, I know the survival horror genre is loved, but I've never been able to get into them. PT was just too intense for me, especially with that motion blur and how the camera shakes as you move. All that culminated in me having to turn it off. I only heard one bang and that was just enough. Interesting how people enjoy the feeling of fear though; something that we are meant to dislike from an evolutionary perspective.
  19. Fez

Digging this thread up after what happened to Polytron. Hearing they're attacked made me want to play Fez. I've had it downloaded for a while, but never got very far in it because the map makes me panic. Normally when I have trouble I'd look up a guide to get going, but I'm concerned about ruining the puzzles. Any tips to help me get started, or just "suck it up and play"?
  20. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

I actually did it this morning while drinking my morning coffee. Well, I got the key hot and headed back to the elevators while chomping on a couple of rations I found. I just kept making silly mistakes - not expecting guards in the warehouse, not remembering there were claymores about etc. Just got frustrated! I'm kinda worried about facing the next boss with such low health though. Edit: Most importantly I've enjoyed MGS enough to want to play 2 and 3. Sounded down on it, but it's a pretty good game. Just kinda wished I'd played it 20 years ago.
  21. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

It's more that I only have a slither of health left and no way to recover it so I keep dying. Another modern thing I've gotten used to: recovering health bars.
  22. Feminism

Completely agree. Gawker sites are all awful, I also really dislike the idea of a news site pretending to be a blog. I avoid buzzfeed like the plague, those titles drive me nuts. I wasn't aiming to single out Jezebel, it's just the article was interesting.
  23. Spelunky!

I find that when I take short cuts I suck and die fast. I need those mine levels to get the extra health!
  24. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

I think I've lost the desire to finish MGS. No health, just trying to find the furnace. So little fun now.
  25. Spelunky!

    Doing the daily.
