I think that's it, I don't need to understand. I just have to be supportive if I meet a trans person.

This is something I really struggle to wrap my head around because I'm cis. I can't empathise with dysphoria because I've not even close to experienced it. I'm me, I don't feel like I need to be someone or something else. I don't even believe I could sit and think "does 'being a man' still feel like something I am?" I barely understand the question. I assume this is why transphobia so so prevalent, it's impossible for some people to understand. While homosexuality is pretty easy to understand because everyone has experienced being attracted to someone that their peers aren't (or vice versa).
  3. PL4YST4TION 4

I think they've been relatively similar since I've started, with the only exception being Marumasa Rebirth on vita.
  4. PL4YST4TION 4

Yup, I did it on my PC browser since at the time I only had a Vita. Let me rack up a decent back log before I even owned the PS4.

It does sound weird in that example, but in others I've said in my head, less so. "Frank said they want to go home." Sounds like something I might actually say currently. If I met someone called "Laura" my instinct would immediately be to call that person "her" as they've chosen a traditionally gendered name. That might not be correct, but I feel that person can correct me quite easily. Then again, why not just take their and they as the de facto words, rather than resorting to new words? If it was "Sam" or "Nick" then I'd have a harder time, but I'd probably just avoid saying pronouns until I was sure, which is surprisingly easy. I've become pretty adept at avoiding saying people's names because I have a weird quirk where I find it incredibly embarrassing to say someone's name out loud when they're around me, so I'd probably do fine without saying he or she.

Is it necessary to make up words like that when English has gender neutral pronouns like "they" and "their"? The words aren't perfect, but I think they can be used without confusion or misconstrued rudeness. If someone said "ze" near me, I'd be confused and think they were pretending to be French.
  7. Feminism

Absolutely miles off topic for this thread, but in the "fitosphere" the training is glamorised a lot. When I need motivation to go to the gym, there's always someone who's talking about training, about the journey, rather than posting pictures of abs. Obviously there's still the money shot culture of pictures of veiny men or muscley women, but it's great that the training is glamorized by some (I can't decide if I like the UK or US spelling more) and has really helped me in my aim to not be a fat ass for the rest of my life.

I keep reading "JWs" as "SJW"

Interesting, I got her last time, and that was about when I quit. I'd much rather play on a portable, but I can't really rationalise £200+ for a new 3DS when I barely use my current version.
  10. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I did come across the super ice missile, and I had assumed there were more weapon upgrades, but I never found them. The electricity and fire one sound pretty cool. I think I'll play it again, maybe once I've cleared my back log and try to not only 100%, but also do some sequence breaks.
  11. Recently completed video games

Ok, cool. I've noticed the heart-to-heart sequences are dependent on different things, but no indications as to what those things are. I know I'm going to like Xenoblade - I deleted an 8 hour save file and restarted because I forgot what happened (not played since July). It's a really fun game, and the world is a pretty unique idea. I'm not a big baby when it comes to spoilers, I'm much more interested in how things happen, rather than what happens. So I'll glance through them and see if there's anything important I could miss.

Any FAQ you can recommend? There's so much content I'm already feeling a little lost, and I've only been playing for 2 hours. I'm not going to go for 100%, just try and get as much enjoyment out of the main story as possible, but I don't want to miss everything for the sake of it. I've actually been sticking with off-screen play for Xenoblade so far, it looks way nicer on the tablet than on my TV.

I beat Prime! It's entered the important list of Griddlelol's top 10 favourite games of all time. It's so good.

Curious: do you have a PS3 or vita with PS+? Even if not, it might be worth grabbing PS+ already. If you get the 1 week free trial, you can use the PSN web store (or app) and download this month's free games - Apotheon, Rogue Legacy and Transistor. All of which are great games. Then when you get the PS4, you can buy your PS+ subscription (as you need it for online play with Driveclub anyway) and those games will be ready to play, and the May free games will be too.

I had a pretty good weekend, and beat: Metroid Prime. Really, really great game. I loved every minute with it, even the collection part. It's a shame it didn't go on for longer, as I think I clocked in at about 20 hours, with a 68% completion (which I was pretty happy with considering it was the first time I ever played it). The only complaint I have, is that holding the Wiimote in my right hand (as a leftie) and aiming, really hurt my wrist after a while. I'm having to take a break, and not move onto Echoes because of the pain. I have similar feelings to Prime as I do to Super. They both excel at making you feel smart, helpless, powerful and lost at different times. The exploration is fantastic, and the combat is surprisingly good. I do prefer Prime, just because, as I said in the Super thread, it's a lot easier for me to get immersed in a 3d environment, and that made the experience fantastic. I don't know if I just missed it, or if it's not there, but in Prime, I didn't manage to find any special moves like in Super (e.g. wall jumping, the boost thing and the health=ammo thing). It doesn't detract from the game not having them, but I went in expecting them. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. So in my effort to play every Metroidvanaia that remotely interests me, I picked this up because Tegan said it was great in the 3DS thread. Fuck! It's great. The art, while a little weird, is super well done and got me a lot of miiverse posts (ok that's out the way). The game play and how the game demands you learn to use your items in synergistic ways was amazing. Like, that's the best part of it, having multiple useful items, that when you use them together are far more than the sum of their parts. It makes going back to old areas really fun and interesting. Not only do you traverse them super fast, but you find secrets. There was a collection part like Prime in Shantae, and it was both easier and more difficult. There are only minor clues which made me think it was going to be frustrating, but once you got new items, most of the collectibles were something that you found naturally (except one which there was a clue for, but I never picked up on it). I ended with a 93% completion rate, and played around 10 hours. I got a lot of enjoyment out of it, and I highly recommend it. I played almost exclusively on my WiiU tablet for off-screen, while my partner was watching TV. Now, for Xenoblade...this is gonna take a while before I post here again. Surprisingly, I kinda liked Mercenary. It's a pretty good shooter, and with the "Botzone" update (which is I think £2) the multiplayer is quite fun.
  17. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

What exactly do you mean by the companion mechanic? If I remember correctly, you occasionally play as the sage of a particular temple, but it's not throughout the game. It's a bit weird, I agree, but I remember thinking it was kinda cool to have a different set of abilities (although barely). Just remember it's an HD version of the game! The original doesn't look anywhere near as nice (although it's still real pretty).

    Beardi-chlorians. Obviously.
  19. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I did a bit of collection last night - I got 3 or 4, I can't remember - and yeah, it's pretty fun. Some of the clues are terrible though, I had to look up a guide for a particular artefact: It was pretty cool, but I would never have figured that out by myself. When it came to WW collecting, I really enjoyed using the map to decipher where to go, and the sailing was so relaxing to me that I'd sometimes just do it for the hell of it. The second time I played it, I'd get home from work, immediately turn on my GCN and collect a shard or two before making dinner. It was a good experience. I tried to play WW a third time recently, but I really can't deal with the GCN control scheme. Is the WiiU control scheme modernised?
  20. PL4YST4TION 4

Yup, I'm a little disappointed, but not really surprised.
  21. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I've only actually collected one artefact (other than the one you can't avoid) so far, so I'll reserve my judgement as to whether this collection process is good or bad for when I'm done. I can totally see where you're coming from, as I've slowed down a lot because I didn't want the game to end yet. It's not the fighting or bosses that made me want to slow down, it's the exploration and feeling of discovery. WW's collection was fun in that I loved the sailing, but it wore thin fast, I hope prime doesn't.
  22. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Lol ok, that's pretty cool. My aversion is mainly because I think Jedi are only cool when they're mysterious space wizards. I was going to comment on how the original Star Wars trailer didn't even show a light sabre (which is doesn't) but wow, old trailers are so different to modern ones. They're really shitty.
  23. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

You're probably right... And no, it wouldn't work. A sword won't cut unless you apply pressure, just like a whip would either need to be rubbed against the material ineffectually, or continually cracked against it - but that has issue of a complete lack of accuracy (but...the force, although the force hasn't really been shown to be effective on a minute spacial and temporal scale like that (but...the force)) and nothing much more than surface damage rather than penetrating the intended target like a sword would.
  24. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Try using a cheese wire to cut cheese without pulling it taut. It doesn't work. A whip has the same issue. Ignoring the prequels... TIE and Death Star make perfect sense when taken together. They hight light the complete disdain the Empire has for life.
  25. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

A whip isn't cool because it makes no sense. A whip isn't used for cutting, so why it is made out of the same stuff that's used for cutting? That's lacking internal consistency. A hilt isn't cool when made out of a blade. The whole point of a hilt is to protect. Adding blades does the exact opposite, which is why it's dumb and not cool. It's even less cool when it is controlled separately from the main blade. It has no purpose, making it not cool. You know what is cool? A fucking walking tank that looks like a metal cow and shoots lasers. Walking chicken tanks are also cool, because they look fast, agile and killed a bunch of teddy bears. You know what's also cool? Space smugglers and galactic princesses battling their way out of a space fort shaped like a small moon with a giant laser that can destroy a planet. Oh, and big hairy people who you can't understand. They're pretty cool too. Actually, I'm going to come out and say it. Jedis are the least cool part of Star Wars (which is a major reason why the prequels sucked because there's not a scene without someone swinging a light sabre around).
