Bloodborne (Dark Souls 2 successor (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)))

Basically coop in Chalice dungeons is so awkward it's not worth doing for what amounts to like 30 mins of play time. Could they have made it any more complicated? -
Ok, so...someone making the choice to be sexually attractive isn't a bad thing, but forcing it on them is - that's pretty simple and linked to objectification. What I don't really get is how as an onlooker, do I know if I'm looking at someone and sexualising them, who isn't intended to be looked at in a sexual way? Gah, that's a really obtuse thought. Easier version: How can I avoid sexualising women when they don't want to be?
-
Looks like I'm missing this point in my understanding of the word, which is probably why I'm confused. So what is the difference, and what is it called when someone deliberately makes themself sexually attractive? When I go on a date, I try to make myself as sexually attractive as possible - to make the other person see me as a desirable sexual person. Is that not self-sexualisation?

Gems and chalices, but also weapons with different gem slots and weapon upgrade items. They end. Then you must do a separate ritual for the next depth - the chalice will tell you which depth it's for. They go up to 5, where apparently there's a powerful boss. I'm not sure how "farmy" they are, but I don't seem to find many of the ritual mats in the main game, so hopefully each dungeon will provide you with enough for the next one. Importantly, I believe you can get multiple Blood Rocks (the mat for upgrading a weapon to level 10) from running 4/5 depth dungeons multiple times, while there is only one in the main game (and it's a fucking pain in the ass to get to). -

Different bosses, powerful items, fun. I like them, I've not done many thought because the mats required to do them aren't common (and I don't want to run through the same one more than once). -
I thought sexualisation also includes a choice of the person. If someone dresses provocatively, surely they're sexualising themself? Whereas, sure someone could objectify themself, but it's a deliberate disempowerment and pretty uncommon, unlike sexualising oneself which is much more common.

Yup me too. Deus Ex: HR was Ok but Jensen was one of the things I hated about that game.

I tried to pick it up again recently, but I had none of the expansion cards, which meant not only did I have no clue what they did, but also saw players using them in incredibly synergistic manners. It was kind of disheartening to get trounced by players throwing out 1/2/3 cost cards. Made a decent run of it to about rank 18 then started getting annihilated. -

I let myself get captured in my NG+ run (since it never happened in NG) to try Dark Beast Paarl at a more appropriate level. It's a good fight. I had to make good use of lock on and turn it off at the appropriate moment. -
I get rather irritated when I go to the gym and see people rowing like morons as there are that people make that could be easily fixed with a small amount of guidance. Watch the videos I linked, they're pretty good. I would love to go up to each and every person (since I've only ever seen 2 people row correctly in my 3 years of attending gyms in Manchester) and tell them how to do it right - since the gym coaches and personal trainers clearly have no fucking clue and haven't been in a boat in their life. However, I'm sure I'd get told to fuck off if I did, so I don't. Onto your original question, depending on how much cash you have the Concept 2 ergos are probably the best quality you can find, they're incredibly pricey but you'll never have a single problem with them. The cheaper you go, the more likely the machine will break or come into problems like belts/chains unlatching when you go hard or all out. I made the mistake of buying a cheap £100 ergo once, and it was a nightmare. I had to constantly reattach the chain and the metrics it put out where utterly useless for my aims. Edit: I should also point out that the concept 2 machines have pretty good resale value too. I'd recommend buying one second hand, as you'll probably get the majority of your money back if you want to sell it. Also: what the hell is a "fitness reimbursement" when it's at home? I want money to buy fitness equipment! Sounds amazing.

So it's the fraction of sexualised to non-sexualised that's the problem for fictional characters? That makes sense. I wasn't really framing my question for works of fiction only, more in the broad context of how women are treated, but maybe that's missing the point of the issue.

The link kind of reinforced what I already knew. I guess my next question is why is eroticisation (or sexualisation) necessarily bad? I understand why objectification is - that's obvious. I just don't really understand why sexualisation is often regarded as bad as objectification, while one is stripping a person of themself, and the other is giving that person an extra quality or characteristic.

I just had an amazing hunt today. It was against a Rathian. I had been rocking it, barely taking any damage, using antidotes timely and broke its breakable section. It started limping so I threw down a trap and the adrenaline kicked in, I fumbled with the tranq bombs, not managing to select them in a timely manner, and ended up missing. It broke out the trap while I fumbled, and hit me with a fire ball, and flew off. The paintball then wore off, I managed to find it fairly fast, but it had healed up enough to require more than one combo. It then started putting the hurt on me, and I kept making mistakes until finally I vaulted, mounted and knocked it down with a successful mount. I sent out my kinsect to reapply a buff...and it died. It was exhilarating and infuriating, monster hunter is great.

Urgh! I thought it would be something like that. I even walked away to make a cup of coffee. Nothing happened though. -

Why are there no Mimicks in Bloodborne? I charge attacked every single chest I found, only to be disappointed when a health bar didn't appear and take a shitton of damage. Old habits huh? -

Man I forgot about Artorias. That was a great boss fight - it made me completely change my fighting style to fit his, like a dual should.- 1284 replies

General Souls series question after seeing the interview with Miyazaki on his favourite boss (Old Monk): What are your favourite bosses? After beating Bloodborne, I've been thinking back and Smog and Ornstein are probably one of the greatest boss fights in any game I've ever played. Similarly the Gargoyles in Dark Souls were fantastic because I was feeling so confident until the other joined in the fight. I really enjoyed fighting the Hunters in Bloodborne, especially the boss versions. Dark Beast Paal was interesting, but I was over leveled when I encountered it. None of the Dark Souls 2 bosses really stand out, and I barely remember Demons' Souls bosses since it was such a long time ago.- 1284 replies

Can someone explain to me the difference between objectification and eroticization? They're obviously linked, but how can you tell when one is occurring and the other is not?
-
That video makes me feel like the game is a hell of a lot less offensive than I originally assumed. I'm leaning towards Gaizo's view: what exactly is offensive about BoI? And if there is anything offensive in it, why is that a problem?

Yeah I'm currently sitting at 30. I might have to grind for souls, fortunately it's easy to get around 30k going up the stairs towards the vicar. I managed to lose 200k, which I was rather upset about. I also don't instant kill things that I parry, so i probably am under levelled. Maybe I should do some chalice dungeons (although the stuff to make them is kinda hard to come by.) -

That's really interesting. I took out te martyr on my second attempt. No glitch, the magic attacks he used clicked with me and I had no problem. However I really struggled with The vacuous one. Mainly because of my impatience - I refused to kill all te adds, until I did and succeeded. I am getting FUCKED in NG+. I feel severely underleveled and vicar - who I aced on NG - is wrecking me. I don't have the damage to burn her down, and I dnt have the vitality to last more than 2 hits. Also the trash up to her is owning me. What level where people who finished once? I'm currently 89 with 2 bosses down in NG+. -

That seems like a reasonable explanation, but father G is the only one who demonstrates their beastly side. Interestingly, that hunter is a hunter of hunters... -

The NG+ is pretty weird. It makes you feel super weak again. Most games use NG+ as a way to make you feel over powered, but I'm struggling with trash mobs. Bosses are different, They're easy once you have the strategy down (although I still maintain father G is the hardest boss in the game - it's those fucking grave stones everywhere). There's no way to upgrade weapons to be more powerful, so your stuck with stat scaling, and right now I'm putting points into arcane so I can use all the cool little spells, unfortunately, I can't use the spells yet, and I'm not gaining any damage. I think the cathedral ward is one of my favourite places. Just really enjoy that area, and the bosses. One more thing: with enough insight (I just ate all my mad mans knowledge to try to max it out) I've noticed that the rifle guys pull out a sword if you get close. Plus there are loads of little lines that trash mobs say like I wonder what that means. This isn't a spoiler so I'll just type it out: why do the hunters attack you? I've not found anything that explains why every other hunter is hostile starting with father G. -
I got it but Bloodborne is taking up my time. Looks really cool though.
