  1. HOTS... no the other HOTS. The Lords Management one damn it!

That's what I like about it. Every time I die, I've known exactly what I did wrong. Every time I kill someone, I know how I could have done it better, and how they could have avoided it. Cutting out all the guff of buying items, levelling individually and worrying about last hits makes the interactions more interesting in my opinion. I like that it's simplistic, but deep enough that if there's a clear difference in skill between two players, the better player will always win.

I practiced with Silvana, and she seems really interesting. If I play enough, maybe I'll spend the £7.99 on her.

Well he's not free to play right now...hence why I bought him. I think I like the ranged guys the most. I have enough gold for Jaina( ?) the frost mage, or I might save up for Silvanas just because I like the character.

I got the star craft guy you have in the tutorial as my first character. Really like him. I accidentally did that on the American servers though maybe it won't matter, since there are free rotational characters, I can move between them if any one on here wants to play. Never mind, it's on Europe.

I played a bunch last night. I kinda like it, it strips out all the things I hated from League and Dota and leaves you with the action part. There is probably a bunch for me to still learn, but in general it's simple enough to pick up, play a few matches and do OK. My first game was a disaster, I died constantly. I was playing a healer, and using a track pad (lol). Just being generally useless. Of course I was called a cunt and a faggot etc. I then spent coins and played as a ranged character, with a mouse. After 2 matches of mediocrity, I was suddenly getting the highest number of kills or assists on my team. I was actually ok! Granted my teams were generally awful, but I played a good 15 matches yesterday and won the vast majority of them. I also tried out the free character - a woman warrior because I had a quest. I did alright using her, but I felt like I didn't do any damage. I could just be wailing on someone for ages and nothing would happen, so I had to adjust my play style to something I wasn't as suited to, but I think I kinda got the hang of it. So yeah, I like this game. Only one match where I got "reported" for being bad in a 0-stakes match. The rest were silent with GG at the end, so already a better community than dota or league.
  6. Social Justice

I read that, and it didn't really help my understanding. Way too specific examples that didn't really resonate with me.
  7. Social Justice

I've tried reading things on the subject, but I really just don't get why cultural appropriation is a thing, let alone why it's a problem. When people live collectively, you get spread of ideas, culture and customs. It's just part of being human: you copy things you think are awesome. Can someone explain to me, like they would to a child, why it's a big deal?
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

Can we just clarify that "folding" socks means rolling them together so they look like this:
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I really liked Apotheon, but I get all giddy over ancient greek/roman things, so I was able to look past all its weaknesses. It's not really a Metroidvania, it's more like a 2D action game that has optional backtracking to get optional weapons/powerups.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I had a separate drawer from my partner so she could fold her socks and I could throw mine in. I also own about 50 pairs of black socks. No need to fold and sort if they're all basically the same. I realised I've not done laundry in like 3 weeks. It's too cold at the moment and nothing drys. It just ends up staying damp for a few days then smelling bad. I should really do some tomorrow.
  11. HOTS... no the other HOTS. The Lords Management one damn it!

I just downloaded this. Although my battlenet account is acting up so I can't actually play it...
  12. I Had A Random Thought...

I fidget when I sit, a lot. So if I wear a dressing gown, it ends up tangled and all over the place to the point that it's not longer covering me.
  13. Let's discuss what a damage type is

I knew it'd be boring. Trial and error I guess.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

I don't get dressing gowns either. I don't find them comfy. I default to shorts, unless I'm already wearing shorts. Shorts are the best.
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

Slippers make me feel like a grandpa.
  16. I Had A Random Thought...

I think the only items of clothing I wear once and wash are underpants and socks. Everything else gets multiple uses unless it gets noticeably dirty or I get sweaty while wearing it. Fart odour only adds to my bachelor mystique.
  17. Let's discuss what a damage type is

Yeah but I think it was that players could have bonus resistances, or apply bonus resistance to a party, but NPCs weren't affected by that sort of thing. Making class based MMOs or multiplayer games must be so hard. You've got to make classes feel different, but also equally effective so that no one will be choosing something inferior. I'd love to know how they work all that out. Although it's probably boring... The "DPS only" classes in WoW were always really interesting to me. Rogues, Mages, Warlocks and to a lesser extent DKs. They had different specs that had different damage "types" or play styles that were all within a class.
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

I dress like option 1. a lot. Shorts are just so comfortable. I cycle everywhere too, so trousers just get filthy in winter. You know what's gross? People wearing trousers without socks. They look like weird disgusting chicken people. Socks without trousers is ok though. I'd be for combo trousers with socks at the bottom, just to stop those horrible people in the gym who put their trousers on first.
  19. Let's discuss what a damage type is

Yeah I joined in around BC, so I never got to experience that stuff, and I spent most of my time playing PvP anyway. It was a good move on their part, making builds that were useless for no good reason was silly. In its essence, I like the idea of having things that are resistant to one type of attack, or susceptible to another. It's awkward in MMOs because then it causes exclusion as everyone is trying to optimise everything.
  20. Let's discuss what a damage type is

Sorry, I didn't see your post. I essentially repeated what you said already. It's just the Pokémon games don't require or even incentivise you to engage in those systems unless you're doing it competitively. Even then the games don't even explain the systems to you, aside from X&Y which surfaced EVs, to the game's overall benefit in my opinion. I don't really agree with the WoW comparison, because the damage is all the same "type" i.e. magic damage, just different flavours of that. A frost mage doesn't do a different type of damage to a fire mage. However, a frost mage is focussed on limiting enemy movement, while a fire mage is focussed on maintaining the mage's movement. Maybe I'm being pedantic though, but if a rogue can cloak it, it's magic. Man, I miss WoW.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

I get complained at for wearing socks with shorts. Specifically anything that's not an ankle sock. Ankle socks feel weird.
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Ok. Maybe we read different articles.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

My reaction has more been towards how Kotaku are acting like noble martyrs of video games. They basically leaked announcements of games, and the publishers are upset. It's not exactly something to be proud of, nor is it something to be ashamed of. Yet they seem to be pushing the idea that because they write hard hitting stories, publishers don't like them, but those that have black listed them did it over leaked announcements...
  24. Let's discuss what a damage type is

The problem with pokémon is that the mechanical depth doesn't really matter unless you're playing against real people. The game itself is so simplified and easy that, as you said, the optimal strategy is have one super powerful pokémon that can be super effective against multiple things. When it's not SE, it's usually so powerful it can just batter through with brute force. In PvP play (which I have very little experience) it all changes. You need a balanced team. You need specialists. You need defensive and offensive pokémon. It's so much more intricate and interesting, but it's also way too much work (fuck IVs.)
  25. I Had A Random Thought...

But it's thrown out for things that aren't jokes too! The joke in Bend Her is that Bender is eating a lot, like a manbot, because he used to be a manbot, and Calculon is unaware of that. Why did it have to be a leg of lamb or whatever? It could have just been shit loads of alcohol or oil or equivalent. I know I'm over analysing it - it's a funny cartoon. It doesn't hurt my enjoyment of it, I'm just genuinely curious. I assume it's either or it's that they send a story board to some contract animators who then filled in unspecified food.
