  1. This forum is weird (Look a new topic!)

I am contributing to this goal.
  2. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Nope, I'm about 3 hours (max) away from 100% that game. I needed a break from it since I played like 200 hours over the course of a month and a half. I just love the mechanics. They're so satisfying!
  3. http://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Online Here's a guide on how to coop in the latest patch. As the host you only need 1 insight, which you can get very quickly, however, you must also use insight to summon a player. You can get insight by using madman's knowledge (a consumable) which gives you 1, by seeing a boss and by beating a boss. The numbers vary on the boss. There are other ways, but they're insignificant in comparison to the bosses/madman's knowledge. Once you beat the first boss (which is a pretty good tutorial boss, you should have enough insight to start using it on coop. I believe you'll have around 8 by that point if you chow down on any madman's knowledge you find. If you'd like help getting to the first boss (there are a few red herrings!) then everyone will be willing to help. Have you played any Souls games before Gwardinen? If you have, you'll do just fine. Interestingly, if the gap in levels between the host and summoned player is large enough, the summoned player's stats will be altered to be close to the summoner. I think that's a really neat system. It allows coop with anyone, regardless (almost) of level, but doesn't allow the summoner to be straight up carried through content.
  4. On the other hand, Father G is amazing. I absolutely love that fight. It's fast paced, you need to be aggressive, you need to use all your tools and the environment to your advantage to win. Such a great fight! I think they made it easier to play with people now. Not sure how though, I've only ever helped people once or twice, but if you need help, I've recently started a new character who's just finished the 2nd boss. So I'll probably be in the right level range.
  5. Life

Yeah, I have only had one boss for a while, and he's not like...the don of endocrinology, so I didn't think he was massively well funded. Turns out he is. Not like the Americans, but certainly a lot for the UK. Going to basics will certainly be a good lesson, plus it looks like they have another project coming through around lung physiology which is more of my specialty. I actually had a bunch of weißbier while I was out there. Even though it was only in airport/trainstation bars. That stuff is fantastic. I'd like to try the dark beers, if they're anything like the Slovak dark beers, I'll be extremely happy.
  6. HOTS... no the other HOTS. The Lords Management one damn it!

Griddlelol#1349 is my ID Holy shit. Valla is awesome.
  7. Life

Thanks, that actually helped. Most of the down points had exactly the same outcome no matter where I go... So, I decided, if I get an official offer, I'm going to take it. Ich bin ein wissenschaftler.
  8. HOTS... no the other HOTS. The Lords Management one damn it!

I will go through and add everyone when I get home from work. Really tempted to buy a hero or two since it's 50% off at the moment. £10 seems pretty reasonable for 2 heroes, just not sure which 2 I'd like the most. Sylvanas because she's awesome and something else. Or maybe I should go with a pack...
  9. HOTS... no the other HOTS. The Lords Management one damn it!

Woah, I tried Jaina and got my ass handed to me. She's much more squishy than the other heroes I've played as. I don't think it helped that I also experienced my first hard counter. A stealth guy who I could just not get away from and killed me every time he found me.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I guess so. I was pretty young, and I only really remember the kids talking about going to Mensa, and my mum groaning about how much she disliked the other parents when they had their bimonthly parent meet ups. That school...well the people who sent their kids to that school were weird.
  11. I just played up to the cleric beast...and lost. The camera in that boss is insufferable. Don't remember it being so hard to see what's happening. On the bright side, I forgot how good this game is. It's like Dark Souls crossed with Bayonetta. It's been so long since I touched it that I completely forgot that I loved it.
  12. Holy (Hell)Diver - Now Coming to PC!

Yup! The game shines when things are balancing on the knife edge, when you're killing enemies and friends, just managing to do the tasks.
  13. Holy (Hell)Diver - Now Coming to PC!

The single player stuff is OK, but it's really not what the game is about. I was using a stealth build to get through the harder stuff alone, but it was joyless in comparison to playing with others.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

I don't think sending your child to Mensa classes actually requires any sort of entrance exam. Many of them were those who were struggling in maths class, so their parents sent them there in the hope that they'd get better. Just to note - at this point I was in a private school, and the idea of your child doing bad was essentially social suicide among the parents. I think it was more of a social thing, where they could say "Oh little Joe/Jo isn't doing well in class, but is doing fantastically well at Mensa classes." Wow, that brought back a memory of me being put in the dyslexic class for 2 weeks because I was failing all my spelling tests at about 9 years old. I distinctly remember how they gave us the most easy stuff to learn, and it quickly turned out that I wasn't dyslexic, I was just lazy. That's kinda a tangent though.
  15. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Haha! My bad, I guess I missed that bit. I also think it'd make sense that my likes are similar to those who also like the same things. Especially when it's averaged out to minimise the outliers.
  16. I Had A Random Thought...

What exactly is the point of Mensa? I know loads of parents sent their kids there when I was at school. None of them turned out to be particularly clever. I've been looking it up recently, and they don't seem to do anything. Just talk about how important they are.
  17. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I think your conclusions are wrong...the graph makes its look like metacritic is completely useless. There is almost no different in the scores between those you loved, and those you didn't love.
  18. I really want to finish the Chalice Dungeons, but I find them so boring.
  19. Life

So...I had a job interview for a post-doc and invited talk in Germany. It went well, but I think I may have been a little naive. I come from a lab that has zero money problems, and the answer to most problems being THROW MONEY AT IT UNTIL IT WORKS, while these guys seem to be much more...classical and less monied. It seems like a beautiful place, and despite their lack of money, they seem to have pretty good output in terms of high impact papers. They also all seem like super nice people and I got along with everyone there. I'm just nervous because it's a super important career decision, and I don't want to make a mistake.
  20. Holy (Hell)Diver - Now Coming to PC!

I should really go back and play this some more on PS4. I completely forgot about it. It's crazy fun, just no fun on your own.

Just so you all know, I've not checked out of the thread. I've just been out the country, and reading, trying to digest what people have said. Really appreciate the discussion.
  22. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Generally the games that hit the 80-100 are incredibly safe, and have incredibly broad appeal. There are some pretty boring games in that range - like Dragon Age Inquisition. I can't think of any 50-80 games that I love though, but I also don't know my favourite games' metacritic scores. Just having a quick look, Wonderful 101 and Driveclub are enjoyable games in the 70s. I also own Alien isolation, but I've not played past the 3rd chapter. Should not have started that game on hard. It's crazy hard!
  23. Let's discuss what a damage type is

Yeah, it was me who was pretty average, a buddy who was good, but we could never find a reliable healer for 3s. Went through so many, some who thought they were shit hot, others who we tried to teach, but mostly the healers we found were decent, just really flaky and couldn't commit. We both rolled healers to try and fix the problem, but neither of us were particularly gifted at it. I really enjoyed the rated BGs in cata. Half the time it was just a bunch of friends having a laugh and getting up to 2k, then never going further because we didn't take it seriously enough. Never played 5s though. It was too chaotic!
  24. Let's discuss what a damage type is

Annoying I didn't until Cataclysm. Missed out narrowly each time. I tried to get into the Rated Bgs then too, but could never get a group good enough to go far. We sold some carries for the weapon ratings though. Surprisingly lucrative.
  25. Social Justice

Ok, thanks I understand that, I guess it's just nuanced enough that there's always going to be examples that people disagree on. In your above example, I can see how one is good and one is bad, but things I've come across where people have argued it's cultural appropriation, haven't been as cut and dry. For example my gym stopped yoga classes a while back, and recently I've seen that they've stopped a free yoga class in Canada due to cultural appropriation. Neither of those directly profit from taking a thing - yoga - and they are essentially white washing it: removing all the spirituality and turning it into a purely fitness and stress release thing. Are they appropriating? They're not profiting, but they are ignoring some aspects and in my opinion stripping yoga of spirituality is beneficial...
