I'm pretty sure they commented multiple times about how it doesn't feel good to play. Or was that the bombcast?- 1367 replies

I don't want to be too down on a game that's clearly trying to do something good. I played with my partner, and we both agreed it wasn't fun at all to play. The movement felt poor and the puzzles were difficult because of the bad movement. Other than that, it's a very simplistic game. The bola controls are awkward also, again to the point that simple puzzles are difficult because of that. It was frustrating rather than challenging, and we both switched controllers but neither of us could find enjoyment from it. My main gripe with it, is that it fails at what it attempts to do, i.e. introduce you to an unknown culture through play. The videos you earn don't really have an significance in terms of what you're doing and given no reason to actually watch them, other than tangential interest. The learning should be integrated into the game, and not require you to go through a menu to watch something. I didn't want to stop the game to watch a video, I can do that just by turning my head and looking up something on youtube on my computer. The videos might as well not be there. If they had integrated the learning into the play, rather than being entirely separate from it, I think I would have gotten past the game play issues, and it might have been interesting. My problem with Valiant Hearts is more simple - I just disliked the juxtaposition of slapstick comedy villains with the actual tragedy of WW1. Put the tone all over the place and I found it a little too jarring.

I dunno, what is a "true" or "proper" food X? I remember walking around Venice with my aunt and we over heard some tourists saying "We can get some proper Italian pasta for lunch." My aunt just said to me incredulously: "What's proper pasta? It's just pasta!" I think worrying about what's real or not is probably pointless.- 1367 replies

That takes a lot of balls to think and try and address things like that. I agree with Ben, give yourself a break. I can really relate to this. Whenever I present my work to people, I always point out the problems before anyone asks. It makes no sense, I've even argued with someone at a conference as to why my work isn't perfect, and therefore not good enough, despite them telling me it was great and I need to publish it. It's a silly thing to do, but looking at what you do critically is important, you just have to learn to keep it to yourself, let other people decide if care about mistakes or weaknesses.

Where's my Bayonetta amiibo?! I want it. Now.

I wrote a massively long reply as to why I dislike Never Alone, but thought it was a bit too negative. It's not an expensive game, it has its heart in the right place, I just think it fails miserably at what it was trying to do. (I also don't like Valiant Hearts, but whatever). If it's not too expensive on eshop, get it, you might enjoy it, but don't expect too much from it.

I had the misfortune of eating "Italian Chinese food" once. It was so far removed from "Chinese" food here in the UK, it was basically fried Italian food with sweet and sour sauce. All foreign food is just altered to fit the culture it's moved in to. It makes it really different in most cases.- 1367 replies

Oh cool! What were you studying there? It's an incredibly picturesque city, I woke up to a snow covered cathedral on the day of my interview. I hope there's fun stuff to do in the city.

I don't actually know my income as of yet. I know the area - it's pretty standard across my profession. I think I end up getting paid slightly more by moving to Germany, despite the poor exchange rate. So I'm going to be living in Ulm. I actually have an undergrad student working with me at the moment who's from Germany. So I might get her to give me a hand sometime next year. I've got a few months left, so it's not a big rush.

No, it was because I walked into the area (Chapter 4) and there were a bunch of level 35 enemies who attack on sight. Turns out I was just supposed to avoid them. I like that design choice of including multiple high level enemies in areas where you're supposed to be a much lower level. It's just years of MMO and RPGs have taught me that if there's a high level enemy, you're not supposed to be there. It's a strange game. It's a good game. There are so many damn systems that I have no idea what they do. The resource points...like, it's explained how to change them to different things, but not what the point of changing them is. I feel like I'm going to have to check out a FAQ. I really enjoy that you can just change class without worrying about anything.

My microwave at home either has time left on it, or is flashing 88:88 because I can't be bothered to set the time. I'm your worst nightmare. (I don't use the microwave at work because there's always a queue and it's always dirty).

I went to A&E and it's not broken! It does hurt a lot though. Apparently the tibia is almost impossible to break, and if I had, I wouldn't have been able to limp around. So that's a good thing! Quak0r: if I think of anything, I will ask, thanks. The only thing I'm worried about right now is finding somewhere to live. I don't want to live alone, I want to house share, but hopefully with professionals or postgrad students. Unfortunately all the websites are in German, so I have no idea what I'm looking at. I'm also a bit unsure on how much I'll be earning after tax. What sort of income taxes do Germans pay? I've also started using duolinguo, it's alright.

I found it, started that mission, and it turns out I'm massively underleveled for it. I now have literally no idea what I'm supposed to be doing.

This game is so weird. I absolutely love the combat, with the strange call outs for combos. I really enjoy that part of it. However, I have no idea how to start the story missions, I know I've got to do prerequisite missions, but they're not shown anywhere. Also the way the party works, you have to find the people to put them in your party, rather than just using the menu. Despite that, it's beautiful and really fun!

I think I fractured my tibia after I drank a lot. I slipped and thought nothing of it, but then noticed blood pooling in my, now red, shoe. I didn't hurt at the time...but now it's been hurting constantly all day, and when I put weight on it, it REALLY hurts. Guess I've got to go to A&E tomorrow. Syntheticgerbil: I'm sorry to hear that. I can't offer any advice, but I hope everything works out.

I have toothbrush at work, but I use it if I forget to brush my teeth at home if I'm in a rush.

Seconded. Although I care about how it does commercially, in the way I want them to keep making things, and they need money to keep making things.

Ouch Zeus, you're so wrong that it's painful. The WiiU is probably my favourite Nintendo console since the N64. It doesn't have a lot of games, but man, it has the best games.

That's good, I think it's fantastic. For the portals...just accept that they add to the chaos of the game. Nuclear Throne isn't about planning everything perfectly, it's about panicking through a hail of gunfire and making tactics up as you go along. Portals are just a factor of that.

They provide free German classes but they're at awkward times (mid day for some dumb reason). I should start using duolinguo, I've heard that's pretty good. From my limited experience, everyone there speaks perfect english, so it might be hard to convince people to speak German at me.

I get the feeling that this sort of game just isn't for you. You dislike Binding of Isaac for the exact same reason.
