Game sells amiibos for like 50% more than anywhere else. No wonder they're overflowing. Nothing against you personally, but fuck Game. That place has been ripping people off forever.

Race, language and cultural barriers to game development

I do that a lot of forums. I have infinite time for people who are clearly not native English speakers in person (I've worked with a lot of Romanians and Czechs when I was a waiter), but thanks to txt spk I just immediately jump to "this person is an idiot" when their writing is bad. Terrible habit. -
OH SHIT. Atlus got meta: The Japanese TV ad for the original Fire Emblem
-
It doesn't make any sense, but that's why I'm so excited for it. It's just looks like an absolute mess of anime and Nintendo. Persona with Idols and Fire Emblem is my bag. I don't understand that either. I think in part, it's because they called it SMTxFE, when it's much closer to PersonaxFE, and I believe a lot of SMT fans despise the Persona series. There is some weird vitriol where many are excited that the game seems to be doing badly in Japan. It's strange to revel in the failure of a niche product...

I play Super Mario Maker every day. It's not a game that I can ever put 10 hours in 1 day, but I play practically every night. Also Beardo, your level was pretty fun.

If I had known Secret Santa was basically "The Transatlantic Candy Swap Thread" I would have been ALL OVER IT. -
Is this real? This isn't a joke right? I have no idea why I want this game so much, but I need it NOW. #FE...

Considering I'm moving to a new country, where I'll probably be sharing a house...€300+ for a PSVR doesn't worry me too much, as long as all non-VR games are compatible with it. It beats a TV...

I just finished The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. It was real good. I just dumped the difficulty down to easy, because the combat doesn't interest me in the slightest, but there was some great writing here. I really enjoyed the main quest line. TW3 is an odd game. It shines when it lets you feel OK with being in an open world. As soon as it starts forcing you down a critical path, the open world and even the writing just get...bad. My favourite parts of the game so far have been everything up to finding Ciri, then this expansion pack. I think the characters in Hearts of Stone are what made it stand out for me. They are detestable.

Oh I like Taco Bell. I just dislike the smell of grease, disinfectant and teenagers that comes with a mall food court.- 1367 replies

I really want Taco Bell. I've not had it in ages, and there's actually one in Manchester. I just feel dirty going into one of those mall food courts.- 1367 replies

I made this recently. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2895664/chilli-marrakech It was pretty good, and made enough for 5 meals. I only do batch cooking now, so I'll appreciate it if any one who can give me good ideas for easy batch cooks. I like to shove stuff into a big cast iron pot and let it cook while I do other shit. Portion it out then take it to work every day. The only problem is, my menu is pretty limited. It's usually curry, stew or chilli.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Griddlelol replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
SR4 is a good game, you really don't need any context for the characters, location, story etc, it's all blown up anyway (literally). I mean I gave zero shits about Gat, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the game at all. The super hero games are best when they're dumb and crazy, which is exactly what SR4 is. I think it surpasses Infamous games, which take themselves pretty seriously and have dumb, boring side missions, which I do anyway because I have to try to 100% stuff. -

3rd > 4. I still really enjoyed my time with 4 though. I generally like the Infamous style super hero games, but man 3rd is the perfect GTA game. It surpassed every single GTA iteration for me. -
There was a tip in one of the loading screens which clued me in to the big chest. It simply said "Try not opening chests." Wouldn't have figured that out otherwise!
-
I never take the gun chest on the first level since I want the big chest later. I would never have come across that on accident.

I find it hilarious how Jeff will let the bottom half of the list go, let people win those fights, but will fight to the death to keep his favourite games at the top. For me, I just get sad that Brad hates the games I love. He really dug into Splatoon and Mario Maker, which are just such joyful experiences. But hey, different tastes and all.- 1367 replies

Learning to say "no" is the hardest thing about working in academia. My experience has been that saying no inevitably leads to ideas you want to follow up falling behind, or someone else working on them, who isn't anywhere near as invested as you, meaning it turns out shit. So I still say yes to everything that I like. However, I have learned to flat out say no when someone comes to me with a) something not worth my time (as with your mid-tier-at-best article) or b ) is a bad idea (my bosses like high throughput sequencing even when it's not a good idea. That shit costs a lot of time, which means more chance of being scooped by the infinite money Americans, and a lot of money, which could be better spent elsewhere.) The thing I struggle with the most, is getting people to do work for me that they've promised. They all seem extremely enthusiastic when I meet with them, hand over samples and discuss the project and potential collaboration, but then take months to do even the smallest thing. If you don't have time, don't offer, it's not like I need to use your state of the art machine that needs publications to justify its existence. Basic lab work is more than fine in most cases, as you don't get questioned on why you're deviating from the norm, and asked to back up your results with...basic lab work. End of rant. Tl;dr, I can sympathise, just say no. It's a valuable skill.

I listened to all the GOTY discussions, and man, while I really like Brad, him an I have the least overlap in taste compared to the rest of the crew. I found myself getting irritated by him because I think he's got a lot of good things to say, but that motherfucker hates Splatoon! I'd really like to see (hear) Austin on Idle Thumbs (or Idle Weekend, which is far more likely considering the location).- 1367 replies

I think it's my personal GOTY. The gameplay of that thing is just so utterly perfect that I can completely ignore all the rest. The story doesn't bother me as much as most people anyway. It's MGS...it's always been crazy.- 1367 replies
