Those are the exceptions though. I think it's fair when currently the only region lock found is the Nintendo systems. Sony has been progressive in this way and it's fantastic. Just because it was an industry standard doesn't mean that I can't be irritated when only a single company bothers with it any more. I'm not one to shout about Nintendo being doomed, nor do I complain about their online abilities. However, I feel that region lock is something that just shouldn't be. I have been considering getting a Japanese or US 2DS but I would feel hypocritical. I'm probably over-reacting, but I got used to just buying American games for my PS3. It feels backwards to just say "oh well, no game X for me" when I've not had that thought for an entire console generation.

The region locking issue has made me seriously question whether I'll buy another region locked Nintendo product again. It's so frustrating being in Europe and having to miss out on great games and have others delayed so much. RF4 I've been waiting for and now the developer has gone under I can't even import. I'm sure SMT IV will fail to be localised too. Is anyone else of a similar opinion? I'll gladly buy Nintendo again if their next console is region free, but I can't feel like I'm supporting such consumer unfriendly business practices.

I'm officially "in to" bravely default. The class system is fantastic. So much potential depth that I'm grinding just to know what potential combinations there are.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=753374 This is an interesting thread. The ps4 controller looks like it might be one of the better choices. However despite owning a ps3 for the entirety of last gen, I've always preferred the off-set analogue sticks of the xbox. However who uses analogue sticks for a 2d game?
-
Sorry if this is detailing the thread, but has anyone tried the xbone controller on a PC? I heard the d-pad is far better than on the 360 controller.
-
I prefer 3rd person action games with mouse and keyboard. Controllers feel sluggish in comparison. The games you've named elmuerte are pretty much all of the ones I've bought and given up on (with the exception of Mark of the Ninja which I adore). So maybe it is worth it... I was considering just getting a 360 controller. Nothing fancy, just something I know is comfortable and will work on a pc.

I got this game in the Autumn steam sale...I've played about 25 minutes. I can't get the hang of it, I've been told that you have to use a controller, but I refuse to buy one for a single game that I currently don't enjoy. Am I missing that much? Would it be worth essentially another £20 on this game. Everyone says it's great but it could simply be that it's not really my thing.

goty.cx - It's that time of last year again
Griddlelol replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Hnnngh. If I could name "system of the year" then I'd go to the 3ds but for games my top 3 would have to be: State of Decay: Such a just...fun game. I've found myself thinking about it at work, which is very rare for me. It's not deep, it's not pretty and the game play is pretty poor but it's still just fantastic. I really recommend it to anyone who has the time to play it. Gunpoint: Seriously, has everyone forgotten this game? I don't see it on any GOTY lists, but I loved it. Such a tight game, and an amusing story. It doesn't bother with explanations or exposition, it just is what it is and that's why I loved it. Fire Emblem Awakening: In terms of sheer numbers of hours spent playing something, this is up there. It's also fucking hard if you turn up the difficulty! Honourable mentions in no particular order: Last of Us, Gone Home, ALBW, Long Live the Queen, Pokémon Edit: Thanks Tycho!- 37 replies

I'll agree with FEA. It's a great game and I've spent far too many hours playing it. However just a warning if you're coming from the vita: it looks like shit. I hate to say it because it's one of the best games on the 3ds, and the battle animations are good, but my god the characters look awful when they're fighting. If you can get past no feet, then you'll probably love it.

I saw this and considered grinding to it but level 11 job takes a long time to get to in chapter 1. Maybe I should stop being too concerned about this stuff and just play. I just feel that the classes are vastly different in strength for example my Thief with daggers barely does any damage (although with a bow it's passable), whereas the Black Mage can pump out almost as much as the other 3 on his own. I hope it's just early game stuff, but I don't like having one member of the party effectively carrying the rest in damage.
-
So is there a faster way to level up jobs other than grinding? I'm still finding jobs, but it's like a huge reset when you find a new one that you want to use.The special abilities seem to push you to choose mostly magic or mostly physical attacks for the best effects, so combination swapping of jobs seems quite important...

Bringing the topic back to Bravely Default: I'm liking it so far, but I am finding the combat mechanics rather boring. A little more depth would be great, but I'm sure it'll come soon. I'm only just out of the intro chapter.
-
Thanks both Merus and Yasawas for your points in bravely default. I think I have to pick it up. I doubt I'll finish it though. Seems like something else will grab me before the 45 hours are up.

Gone Home It's why I love the medium so much. If you haven't played it; do it as soon as possible. I regret waiting this long since the release. Portal 2 Good day, two great games finished. I really liked it, and obviously everyone on here knows why the Portal games are good, but it's too long! The original left me wanting more, which I got from user created maps etc. I was bored of 2 by chapter 7, so 8 felt like a slog that I dragged on for months. It's not even a particularly long game, but I wish it had been an hour or two shorter, and I'd have loved it rather than just liked it.

I tried FC2 last night thanks to the steam sale and idle thumbs. Only 2 hours in but I'm enjoying it. The best moments for me so far have been: Seeing a car on the road and assuming (thanks to the intro "the soldiers mostly keep to themselves") that we would drive past each other amicably. Only for them to open fire on me, forcing me to madly shoot with my pistol until I killed the gunner then lob a grenade due to no ammo to kill the driver while he changed seats. This resulted in me lost without a transport. Fun! The second was barreling into a road block while looking at my map. The biggest shit storm happened as I tried to hide and pick enemies off one by one. I mean, this is what I was told to expect, but I assumed it was all hyperbole. I had fun in those 2 hours. I never felt like I had nothing to do, only that there was too much to choose from. Can't wait to get a few more hours under my belt. I think it helps that I've heard so much praise before starting, but also that it's just "my kinda thing" unlike most shooters that bore me. My only criticism so far is that the map feels like a bunch of tunnels forcing you through them.

Well I finally got round to finishing ALBW. Other than being the best Zelda since Wind Waker I can't agree with other people's criticisms, well, the most common ones. The art style I really enjoyed. The game looks good. The 2D wall painting Link looks great. The game works well with the low pixel count of the 3ds. The difficulty is what I wanted. I died more than most people (thanks to being lazy with restoring hearts before bosses) but I don't want Zelda: Dark Souls edition. In a handheld I want a fun, bite sized game that won't leave me shouting out in frustration on the bus or while I'm next to my partner in bed. I really like the street pass link battles too. Great way to introduce a pseudo-multiplayer aspect to the game. I'm sure this game doesn't need any more recommendations, but it has mine. If you have a 3ds and don't have ALBW: for shame! Now on to Mario 3d land...

Bravely Default looks really good, and I'd love to play it, but saying "30 hours in" has made me reconsider. I don't get much time go game any more, with life and job taking over. I love my 3ds because I can play in bite sizes chunks. Would this game be for me? Is it too in depth to be played in 20-40 minute sessions every now and again? Or does this require a serious time investment to be good?

Things in games that terrify you irrationally
Griddlelol replied to Max Ernst's topic in Video Gaming
Dodongos. Specifically in The Ocarina of Time. They've scared the shit out of me since I was 9 years old and still do. -
The Walking Dead Way over due, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The story had me desperate to know what was happening next. However one of the flaws I got rather aggravated with was that your choices don't matter...at all. The characters I wanted to live would die no matter how hard I tried to save them. Some would die or leave in lazy ways just so I couldn't take them further. Despite that disappointment, I really enjoyed it!
-
Thanks! Just in time for my flight home. I never played it as much as I would have liked on PC.
-
I'd like to add +1 for Liberation Maiden. Really fun game. The only annoying part is that it's difficult to play on a moving bus. Anyone else have recommendations for eshop games under £15 (or dollars)?
-
Actually, one of the reasons I love PC gaming is that I can have the TV on as background noise if I like. If the game is immersive, I simply ignore it. If it's a strategy game or turn based like Civ I can watch and play at the same time. To have a console that fills that niche is pretty cool, and now there are plenty of games to choose from. I guess I'll be buying myself a late Xmas gift.
-
Thanks for making me feel like a baby. I'm not struggling with it, but for me the level of difficulty is just right. Dungeons can take me up to 40 mins (which is perfect) and some bosses I've come up against gave me a challenge.
-
I couldn't agree more with this. The game was about par for the course in my opinion. I finished it, I had a decent time playing it but it wasn't anything special. The combat was decent. The quick time events (on PC) made me want to scream. The story was lame. I stayed because I like the franchise, I like Lara and killing thousands of guys with the decent combat mechanics was good enough to keep me playing.

Long time listener finally made it to the forums. Hi everyone!
