Is the mumble server still active?
  2. Thi4f

With a bit of out of context quotations, I think this is a great one for the box.

God that interviewer has some seriously fake laughter. Listening to British people talk near American people makes me realise how ugly our accent is.
  5. Titanfall

Despite not being totally in love with the beta, I watched a lot of footage of this game and now am so desperate to play it. March 14th cannot roll around fast enough. Is there/will there be an idle thumbs group?
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

First official entry here but I'm ready to quit Guacamelee. The combat isn't what I define as fun, it just feels like something to break up the platforming. The platforming is what I really don't like. It's hard. Hard to the point that it's frustrating, especially without checkpoints. I recently got the phase/world shift power and having to wall jump while phase shifting is difficult, which can be rewarding when I manage it. However, when I make a mistake after getting to a new platform and fall all the way to the bottom, it just feels like I've been punished too hard. I don't want to do that again, and again, and again. I'm not quitting because I'm bored of it, but more because I don't actually like the game. The references are kinda lame (I'm not a reddit guy), and the story is forgettable which are aspects that have received a lot of praise. It's a shame really, I wanted to like it.

Yeah, but if you feel like you have to/should it's probably not great design. I didn't hate the forced action sequences, they broke up the game play which I found quite fun. Each to their own though. However I wouldn't say it's the best-written game I played last year...I honestly do not care about the splinter cell story one bit. I just like well designed stealth. Interestingly for me, I played SC: BL right after playing Mark of the Ninja which was a perfect stealth game in my opinion. Still, even though it was a downgrade, I think black list is a pretty decent game. I don't have a lot of tolerance for poor stealth games, but if you're not enjoying it then quitting is ok! I just hope you'll give it another chance.

I found in Blacklist that I could get through many of the earlier levels without touching a guy. You have so many gadgets at your disposal that distract/sleep/whatever as well as the traditional approach of watching movements and slipping past guards. There are some missions that require a more direct approach (and sometimes the game would give me "panther" points rather than "ghost" despite not killing anyone which I found incredibly annoying), but they're not common. I'd recommend giving it a good old college try. Maybe because it's the only good splinter cell game since chaos theory is why I liked it so much, i.e. nostalgia.

Oh hey! I came on here to read and remembered that I totally completed Gravity Rush (aka Gravity Daze). Pretty good game! I had fun, the narrative I started to ignore a bit towards the end because it was very cliche JRPG style stuff so I won't comment on that (some people like that stuff). However, the psuedo-open world design was great, and having their version of XP points as collectibles made me want to explore rather than jumping from mission to mission. Falling around everywhere took a while to figure out how to control fluidly, but once I got the hang of it I was everywhere I wanted to be very fast. The special abilities were a little bit broken (especially the one, which I would just wait for it to refresh and use it again), but the combat was very fulfilling. If you've got a vita, it's free with ps+ and is a solid game. Don't expect something amazing, but it's certainly an experience I'm glad I spent my time on. Yeah, so Gravity Rush!
  10. Who are Your Favorite Video Game Reviewers/Critics?

Yahtzee is a guy I watch after I've played the game so I can laugh at the ridiculous video game bullshit he points out. He does have occasional gems of insight, but most of it is Blackadder-esque insult-analogies which I find amusing. Not a guy to take seriously on any level. Jimquisition is utter garbage. That guy is like the personification of Internet outrage. I find him unwatchable.
  11. Who are Your Favorite Video Game Reviewers/Critics?

The thumbs guys usually like games that I then go on to like (especially Mr Gaynor). I'd also say Kirk Hamilton on Kotaku. His tastes are almost exactly the same as mine, although I lie a little bit more towards the strategy side of things. If either of those two like a game, there's a good chance I'll go and watch a let's play, or if I've been interested in it, I'll probably buy it. I'm aware this is the antithesis of this topic but I generally disagree with anything the people at Polygon say. My tastes and theirs don't mesh very well, so it's interesting to see people here saying how much they like them. For sheer enjoyment, I loved Charlie Brooker's old PC gamer articles.

Holy shit, 13 hours?! I played it for about 4 and assumed I was near the end and quit.
  13. PS Vita

That's cool. The trial parts of AA were brilliant. I just loathed the art style and campiness of the whole thing. I'll definitely pick it up when it's a bit lower.
  14. PS Vita

I really want to give it a go, I just have two problems with it. 1) I hate Phoenix Wright games. They're so goofy and I find the whole thing annoying. The art style and mood of Denganronpa looks so different though. I loved VLR, so I'm definitely feeling like I'd enjoy this. 2) £35, really? Seems a little steep to me. Is it that much like Ace Attorney?
  15. PS Vita

What the fuck did I just watch?
  16. Titanfall

Maybe the reason I'm not loving this game is because I'm not playing it with anyone I know. I really want to like it, but it hasn't clicked for me yet.
  17. Titanfall

Well I managed to blag my way into the beta, not had a go yet. What should I expect from this game? Halo or CoD?
  18. PS Vita

TxK is absolutely fantastic. I'm terrible at it...but I keep coming back to it for the sheer madness an immersion I get from it. If you own a vita and have £5 you need TxK, even if it's just for the soundtrack. Deception looks bonkers. When do I get to play it?

I dunno, I've never been to LA, but this is what I think of when I think LA:
  20. Nintendo 3DS

Yeah...I have a buddy who liked to push Skyrim to the limis then complained about the results. Even with the slightest nudge that game crumbled. Ninjas are about as broken as you can get in the western version of BD. It's a shame, they look so cool!
  21. Nintendo 3DS

I am playing on hard, but with 4 ninjas it makes the bosses pathetic. If I try and play without breaking the game, it makes it more fun, but it's still not particularly difficult. I've only wiped once or twice and that was thanks to making obvious mistakes early in the game. Again, I love the combat. I just have that min-max itch that makes me want to break it. As a side point, I think that's why I prefer western RPGs. The fact they make the character me, or designing a character makes me want to role-play. I never min-max in those games. JRPGs are about other people which makes me disconnect from the role-playing element and fall into the "I'm going to break this" mindset. I'm not that far in P4, so I'll have to see if I change my mind. I hope I don't, the aesthetic of that game has gripped me.
  22. Titanfall

This falls into my category of, 5 years ago I would have been ALL OVER this game. Titanfall and Day Z are my thing, I just do not have the time to sit down in front of a PC for hours each week any more. I've heard that the "smart pistol" helps with this, making it more pick-up-and-play. Still, it's hard to find competitive multiplayer games for people who aren't in school or college.
  23. Nintendo 3DS

It's less like "isn't good enough" more like "isn't short enough." I wouldn't say it's a frustrating obstacle, more like a surprise which makes me need a break from the game. I prefer the combat in BD to Persona 4, but the style and story of Persona 4 blow BD out the water. In the end, they're what keep me going after hour 30 when I've seen every part of the combat inside-out. The job system I find fantastic. I want to master all the jobs, but I feel incredibly unfulfilled when I do. It's strange. I love planning all the different powerful combinations, but once I get there all I can feel is a little bit empty, as though I've beaten the game because I've figured out how to kill bosses without any effort. The jobs and combat play to my love of min-maxing, but also make me depressed when I achieve it. Persona doesn't do this. Generating powerful poersonas feels good, but (so far) hasn't made the game ridiculously easy. I'm not a huge JRPG fan, so for BD to keep me playing for 30+ hours makes it a great game. I didn't mean to seem so down on it.
  24. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think my most hated part of the GTA hype was the constant "ZOMG HIESTS!" of which in many, many hours I did about 2. I was told that they were a major part of the game, and that it would allow me to essentially design my own mission. They were not like that, there were not many. It's all just old GTA missions that never change. It's probably all my fault for listening to hype for a game which is designed for everyone, without anyone in mind.
  25. Nintendo 3DS

I hit the chapter 5 wall and decided to play a decidedly better JRPG on a different system (Persona 4). I will pick BD back up at some point, but probably when there's another 3ds release to bring me back to it. I've heard good things about Senran Kagura Burst's combat, but I'm not sure whether I can bring myself to buy it.
