I love the tablet as a controller. It feels so nice to use! I bought the pro controller but still prefer the tablet. In other news. OMG the levels after the final boss in 3d world are SO HARD. I feel like a complete baby now. My platforming ability has always been bad but even the first level took me to school and basically said "you suck at this game, uninstall and kill yourself." Fuck Nintendo, you've done good.

I don't see how the broad age range has much to do with the need for over-tutorialisation. When I was a kid I picked up games instantaneously because I pressed every button until I got it working. Which generally took about 5 minutes. Now I'm more timid with jabbing at buttons, but already know the gaming language and so there's no need to worry about tutorials. Tutorials in my mind are basically for adults who don't game/haven't gamed in a long time. ALBW was great at tutorials. It pretty much just asked "Do you know how to play? Cool, you do? Let's go." That's how every game should do it.

I think getting 3 stars is entirely due to luck at 150cc. I rage quit last night when I won all the mushroom courses and on the last race a red shell hit me right at the end and I dropped to 4th. Nothing I could have done Fucking great game though, but I doubt I'll ever 100% it.

I think you're over-reacting just a little. To me it seems like you're reading a message that isn't there. It's just people wanting to make a cool game that's not about soldiers. They're not trying to push some ultra-conservative propaganda on how it's ok to have militarised police kill swathes of criminals.
-
Well I watched some of the alpha footage last night. I think I'm on board. I might wait until October to see if they announce a PC port, if not I guess I'm getting a PS4.
-
Yeah I updated it before I jumped on. I'm on PC by the way. It's probably the DLC, I saw an "Attrition: Expedition" game mode. This really highlights the problem with map DLCs for mutliplayer stuff. It completely fragments the user base. I was really disappointed, I've been using Titanfall as a game to fill an hour or so, but not finding a game at prime time sucks. That experience also makes me not want to buy the DLC in case I still can't find a game. Seems like a poor business model to make people pay for maps.
-
So is Titanfall officially dead now? At least in the EU? I don't have the DLC, so that could be something to do with it, but I waited 10 minutes for a game tonight. I gave up and played something else. Talk about a fast burner!

LOL! Yeah I don't find this offensive, it's too terrible to be offensive. It reminds me of when I was in high school and a friend of mine decided to play this white power music while we were in the car. He thought he was being a badass but the other 3 of us erupted in laughter at how terrible it was. Holy shit this is off-topic. So yeah, shooting polygon cops doesn't bother me, but I guess how I can see that the idea of it might bother someone else. Hardline just looks like the devs wanted to make a cool game that wasn't about the army anymore but maybe were a little tone-deaf. I guess in the end my opinion on this is irrelevant. I'm never going to buy the game, can't stand Battlefield games.

There's music that has stuff about killing police people? Why am I so much more disgusted by that than killing thousands of cops in a video game? If I try to rationalise it I come up with something like "well you gotta kill something in a shooter..."

Yeah, but I'm not interested in the Xbox. Their rhetoric so far has been rather irritating to me, not to mention they ditched the kinect already...the only interesting part about the xbox. Oh also I have been racking up my PS+ free ps4 games for a while now. Out on PC? I thought they said a while ago that they'll never bring it to PC? I seem to remember some bullshit from Bungie about being console devs etc. etc. I hate when devs are such dick teases about releases. Just state it out-right.

Yeah... That'd be cool if she liked games, but if it wasn't for her I'd never read and I would have missed out of so many fantastic novels. I just have to convince her that it's ok to have an expensive addiction to technology considering I don't drink/smoke. I would say it's not lying that makes a good relationship, but more like spin. If you can spin things well, it'll work.

I need to go on a diet anyway... I think I have a plan. If I save up enough money for a PS4 bundle AND a certain handbag that my girlfriend's had her eye on AND lie about the price, I might get away with it. To eBay!
-
I just did that with my Wii U. Even if I did save up by not wasting money on eating out etc. my girlfriend would still kill me. I'd have to buy it, put it near the tv and hope she didn't notice. I do want that white PS4 though. And Bloodbourne. And whatever naughty dog puts out next. And I could play The Last of Us DLC I never had a chance to play. And I can't believe I'm talking myself into this.
-
Urgh, everything I read/hear about this makes me want it. Hearing someone describe it as "Halo x Phantasy Star Online x Borderlands" just makes me want it. Hearing the phrase "there are raids of 8 people..." makes me want it. God damn it Bungie I DON'T WANT A PS4! I'm forcing myself not to watch game play videos. That'll be £400 I can't spend right now, and my partner will go mental considering I just bought a Wii U.

From what I've seen - granted barely anything - it doesn't look like Police vs Criminals. It looks like caricatures of cops and robbers, like in serious movies that no one takes seriously. I can imagine the class select screen having a choice between Schwarzenegger (heavy), Van Damme (support) and Stallone (demolitions). Maybe I'm hoping for this. Because if they do it, I'll pre-order my first ever battlefield game.
-
Oh right! I just saw it somewhere and assumed that meant it was out.

I strongly disagree with this. When you take into account that COD focusses on the middle east where many are forced into violence by their extremist peer or superiors it makes the whole voluntary thing plain wrong. It's pretty much the same on the western side too, many people "volunteer" for the army because they have no other option, and the only stable employer in the region is army - specifically in the US. It has very little to do with nationalism. There's not much of a choice between join the army or starve is there? The difference between the two games is a reskin. I've not been able to watch the video - I tend to read forums during downtime at work so videos are out, but I think the analysis that "killing X feels wrong" in every context is a little silly. Maybe I'm desensitised to it all, but when I'm playing a game, I know I'm shooting/stabbing/jumping on imaginary things. Sure I can feel emotionally attached to characters, but beating enemies has very little effect on me. They're all essentially robots. It reminds me of when I was a teenager and my friend came round. I popped in Halo and he said "This is boring, I want to shoot people." I honestly didn't understand the difference, and I still don't. They're all the same to me. It's also why I think the whole "violence in video games makes people violent" argument is laughable. The fact that Battlefield is just a playground for shooting goes to support that it's not pushing any sort of narrative. There was no anti-american rhetoric when it was Allied vs Nazis, there is unlikely to be any anti-police, pro-crime rhetoric in Hardline, nor will the message be about the dehumanization of criminals. The designers wanted something cool and fun for people to play. A lot of people forget about this aspect with AAA games, and to me Cops 'n' Robbers sounds like it'll strike a chord with many people as fun. Also: Who hasn't spent hours killing cops in GTA X? On another point, Spec ops: The Line isn't what I'd call a thought provoking shooter. It's more thought provoking than many shooters, but not by a hell of a lot. It's a pretty weak game, with a few interesting parts - especially the ending. I don't regret playing it, but if I had know how average it was going to be I would have skipped it. I think people talk it up because it actually had the balls to do something different, rather than because it was good. P.S. I hope my post doesn't come across as "you're thinking about it too much" because that's not what I'm saying. It's good to think about things!

That's entirely fair. I like to give myself the option. I'm also pretty sure on easy or normal you actually can't lose your last man. Not sure about normal, but I'm sure the devs specifically said you can't fully wipe on easy. sure sure sure urgh.
-
That's a really interesting idea. Although if you take the Driveatar (or deathatar in this case) to it's logical conclusion, you'll be fighting a bunch of enemies who roll around a lot then fall off a cliff. Or at least that's what mine would do. It's sort of like the "multiplayer" in A Link Between Worlds. Except I assume better.

Has anyone tried out the DLC yet?
-
Wait, that's the final boss? How many more levels are there after that? I'm not read for it to end yet ):

I spoke to the guy at the local game store and he said he just plugged a 500gig in via USB and that was that. Not sure if it's true, but it sounds like something nintendo would do. On another note: Just finished World 4-3 in SM3DW. It was amazing!

I don’t know how much the rest of you know about lifting (I’m an expert)... Jokes aside, I work in endocrinology and I've been into weights for years. In answer to your question it's pretty simple: If you want to gain muscle, lift heavy, eat loads. If you want to lose fat, lift heavy, eat less. You won't get bigger if you don't eat enough calories, and you won't get smaller if you eat too many. There are some small intricacies to it, like hormonal spikes - exercise causes cortisol (the hormone I work on) spikes which leads to fat burning and muscle wasting - although the latter is unlikely if you don't live in the third world, whilst eating a lot promotes insulin and growth hormone both of which lead to muscle increase and fat increase. Ignore the whole "more reps = fat loss" idea, it's based on pseudoscience from the 1980s. You want to lift pretty heavy, aim for maybe 10 reps +/- 2 reps but where you really struggle on the last one. Do this while eating low calories and you'll lose weight. Look up a basal metabolic rate calculator and it'll show you what your basal calorie intake should be. If you don't exercise much eat that number, if you exercise a lot, eat slightly more. On the types of exercise feelthedarkness has a intermediate/advanced split, but for a beginner I'd recommend doing a full body work out each time you go. I still use my full body variants every few months because it has added benefits of testosterone induction with big lifts and looks something like this: Fullbody Variant 1 Squat Pull up Overhead press Bent over row (or one armed row) Fullbody Variant 2 Deadlift Bench press superset into press ups Triceps push down biceps curl In the end the exercises you do don't matter too much, it's really the amount of calories you eat. Doing any exercise will build muscle (except super long distance running) but if you eat less you'll lose fat pretty fast. It also might be worth looking into High intensity interval training (HIIT). I can't stand cardio, but I love doing HIIT stuff.

The Legend of Zelda: Adventure of A Link's Awakening to the Mask of Time Past

I'm excited for Hyrule Warriors. Looks like dumb fun with characters I already like! -
Why don't I like Republique? It seems like everything I love in games, but I just can't get past the first 10 minutes. I actually think I'd like it more if it wasn't on iPad.
