Interesting films, but I think this is better to be discussed in the Movie/TV Shows Thread. https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/4038-movietv-recommendations/page-380 Which, unsurprisingly, you've seem to have posted in. Happy to see another film lover in here, though (which my username suggests that I am, but in reality I'm more interested in video games. TheGameaste doesn't sound good or make sense, though)!

So wait, what is the point of this thread? To shit on that gross Bible game? If so, well cool, I guess? Ey, what's that supposed to mean.

#TeamJacob Oops, wrong forum, sorry... :x

This is my 2014 GOTY. Just saying. Anyone want to play, feel free to add me on Steam and try to see if we can play it.

You're seriously underselling that movie, despite the fact that you kinda' liked it. "Exploitation" never came cross my mind when I watched that film. Sure, it was very gratuitous but that doesn't make a film worthy of being called torture porn or exploitative, specially if the film doesn't present those films in a prideful, cathartic, and/or pleasurable way. It didn't aim to make audiences go "Aw, fucked up shit, bro!" like when watching a Saw film, nor did it want to use the imagery to ham-fistedly/brutally nail its themes in the audiences' skulls (ala' Salo or A Serbian Film, both which I've admittedly not watched but read extensively about). It's an honest film and one that wants to see its main character tortured not for the sake of guilt-tripping or pleasuring its audience, but for it to be a testament of human struggle and resistance in the face of extreme prejudice, hatred, oppression, and human savagery disguised as civility. For this reason, the film seems to be a continuation of director Steve McQueen's focus on showing human resistance in moments of intense oppression. Hunger and 12 Years a Slave are films that very literally demonstrate these things, while Shame did it in the context of a man resisting his sexual depravity that clouded his capacity to feel love and be loved. Also, 12 Years a Slave is based on a true story, and in this case, that's not an excuse.

Wow, the fact that this is Lonnie's backstory makes me feel much more connected to her, since I'm also Latino and my parents are immigrants. You don't really see those factors in much non-Hispanic/Latino written fiction nowadays, specially in video games!

Well poop, sorry for not coming, had loads of shit to do. Could there perhaps be a Grand Theft Thumbs tomorrow at the same time, or is this just a Monday thing forever?
-
Holy crap, how have I not seen this before? This looks beautiful, the animation style and art are sublime. I'll definitely keep an eye on this.

For a second there, I though this was going to be a fan art thread where people draw Lonnie and Sam battling against the brothers from...Brothers, in hilariously wild situations. but I guess I was wrong. My stance on all this is that both games tackle narrative in distinct and both perfectly valid ways. I will not elaborate right now because I have to go to class. Good day.

D'oh, I think I'll be missing the first two hours of the event (assuming all of you will still be playing after two hours...). Well I am mistaken, I shall only miss the first hour. Hopefully, you'll all still be playing until then.

Well, ok then.

No today.

Idle Thumbs 140: The Customer's Always An Asshole

Holy fuck, no way! It was about fucking time you guys had him on! -
Personally, I do it just for fun and to talk with people who are watching. For me, it's less about "I'm skilled and Imma show you my skills" and it's more about "Hey, Imma play this game. Let's talk while I play it, and see if anything dumb happens in the game." The Idle Thumbs Broadcasts of Crusader Kings and Far Cry 2 are perfect examples of this. EDIT: Thanks for watching! I will continue my game tomorrow, if I have the time.

Seeing as this thread isn't being used, I guess I'll give it a bump! Broadcasting Resident Evil 4 in 20 minutes. I'll be playing a permadeath Proffesional difficulty playthrough, cuz why not? Feel free to stop by before then, since I'll be setting it up and will be in the chatroom. http://www.twitch.tv/thecineaste03

Yeah, that so far is my problem with it, so far. Pretty tired that being a AAA game means it has to be over 10 hours and be 60 bucks, rather than be 3-6 hours and 20 bucks. A shorter game would instill the tension till the very end. Also, I doubt they'd use the Engineer as an enemy, since he's year before Alien lore and due to its unsuccessful critical response, not many people are clamoring for more Prometheus stuff.
