  1. The Shitty Joke/Anti-Joke Thread

And on that day, you were fired for making an offensive joke. Thanks, Thumbs! This is technically a shitty joke. Also, has this become the official Bad Irish Jokes Thread? Oh my luck charms...
  2. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I CONCUR. IF ONLY. THAT CHARACTER. EXISTED.
  3. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

My only main problem with all this it the game's tone, which is the usual boring, grim dark stuff the AAA industry thinks can pass as being "mature". I don't care what you do with a LOTR game mechanics wise, there are many ways to approach that. What I care is that it FEELS like a LOTR game. Give this game any other name and it could easily pass as another rote grim and dark fantasy game that is trying to be the Witcher, which is a fantasy game that justifies its serious and jaded tone by presenting mechanics, lore, and characters that from the beginning help support those tones (the novels which the games are based on did the same). And this is isn't a LoTR fanboy shouting for accuracy to the source material, this is someone sick and tired by the AAA industry's insistence that games that approach their story or world in a blatant, ham-fisted gritty, grim way are mature and are good ways to present their stories. They forget that A ) That doesn't show a sign of maturity, but rather a sign of striving to LOOK mature while being immature, and B ) After years of this bullshit, it just becomes boring. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, as many problems it may have, for me captured that sense of awe and beautiful wonder a Tolkien novel or the LOTR films conveyed. It implemented in its tone and environment the sense of being part of a greater world, and it left you there to figure out the smaller details yourself. I'm sure this game will play well, will look graphically amazing, and the Nemesis system will be hailed as a great movement forward in terms of emergent, procedural gameplay. But all that to me marred by the over the top violence displayed in a cold manner, the heavy boring high contrast lighting, the shouty and pseudo-menacing dialogue, and the grim portrayal of an otherwise mostly light-hearted series of novels.
  4. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

Yeah, they're still doing their thing, Brad still gets easily scared by anything Japanese horror related. They're cool guys and I wish them well. Their community, though... And Fatal Frame was a whole meme unto itself. Back in 2008-2009, it was hard to not see "BRAD, PLAY FATAL FRAME" in the JustinTV chatroom during streams.

  7. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

In Dishonored years, 2003 counted, so its the 11th anniversary. Anyway, I heard about this podcast through another podcast/community called 4PlayerNetwork (formerly known as 4PlayerPodcast) that I used to hang out at, mostly in the forums. Unfortunately, as much as the people behind 4PN grew up and began to be more ambitious, it's community and fanbase grew more and more entitled and vitriolic. Currently, their forum is a dead zone, no one posts there anymore, and before that, in retrospection, their community was mostly full of jerks (got to know some awesome people there who I still keep in touch though). Anyway, Brad Simmons, one the 4PN crew, is an avid listener of the pod, so I started listening since the end of 2012. I was completely enraptured by what these guys talked about. They were funny and ridiculously smart. Each episode I listened to felt like I had just accomplished something productive. I'd learn so much more about this medium that I so want to be a part of while also laughing along the way. Listening to Idle Thumbs also cheered me up during a time of great distress, since I was setting up to move somewhere else for college and was scared of the road ahead. But just listening to you guys talking about games and making each other laugh was enough to appease my mood. Then I joined the forums! In less than three months, I got to befriend and know many awesome people from this community, and have engaged in more productive conversations than during my time at the previous forum I was at. It's amazing how this community stacks up to other internet communities, specially the one I had just come from. Granted, this is the second forum I've signed up to ever (never been on 4chan, Neogaf, Reditt, or any other forum/community except 4PP/4PN), but I feel this community is the exact opposite of what I imagine most collective internet communities are like. It's humble, charismatic, progressive, and intelligent, while also being goofy at times. Just like the podcast that helped create it! Here's to another 10 years of Idle Thumbs, and may many more years come after!
  8. The Shitty Joke/Anti-Joke Thread

So, there's three religious guys on a plane that's about to crash. They don't have parachutes, only their faith. The first guy prays to God so that when he jumps, he will fall on a bunch of pillows to cushion his fall. And thus, the first guy falls on pillows. The second guy prays to God so that when he jumps, he will fall on a bunch of soft mattresses to cushion his fall. And thus, the second guy falls on soft mattresses. The third guy is in the middle of praying and accidentally slips out of the plane. "Shit!" he yells. And he falls in shit.
  9. And now, a word from Agent 47.

  12. Movie/TV recommendations

"Who killed Hannibal?" is perhaps the best Twin Peaks reference I've seen.

Where's the love for Hot Scoops up in this? Here's my contribution, my master work.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Goddamn you. Because of your recommendation (and the fact Hannibal Buress is in the show), I can't stop watching. Chiquita banana.

  16. Spelunky!

    Dat innuendo.
  17. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

I guess? The thing is, the news I have isn't enough to entice conversation, its just an announcement of an HD remale of a game. But I'll guess I'll do a thread for it, I suppose...
  18. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

Well, that seems more atuned to business stuff. Is it fine if I make a General Video game News Thread? A place for release dates, announcements, and previews, perhaps trailers. If someone wants to make a thread specific about a game, I guess one can just redirect to that thread when it's made.
  19. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

No it does not, but to be honest, it's just a quick bit of news. If there isn't a general Video game news thread, I think we should have one. Just compile general release stuff and small info while leaving the big stuff for threads about that game (business stuff I assume goes here)
  20. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

Where does one post general video game news? Or should I make a new thread surrounding that one game's news (which sounds pointless, imo)?
  21. The Shitty Joke/Anti-Joke Thread

    Knock, knock.
