What's funny is that I had written that I don't agree that QWOP isn't a walking simulator, but decided to delete it since it wasn't relevant to this thread. But yeah, no, I don't think that counts. I feel it all has to do with intentions and actual mechanical input. QWOP, despite giving you the power to control every limb on a person's leg, doesn't have the intention to literally simulate and systemize the act of walking. It's mechanics are there to create a challenge and is a source of humor when you fuck up. All about intention and execution.

It's even worse when those same dipshits bring up that the game or games similar to it are shallow or lack credibility of some sort. The one that piss me off (though sometimes make me chuckle when I'm in the right mood) are the ones that say "X games is pretentious or shallow, and is not a game. If you want better entertainment, go read a book." Gross internet people love to pass themselves as being intellectual or above whatever they think they are "critiquing", and I fucking hate it. I also fucking hate the term "Walking simulator" is a thing now. Even in a non-condescending context, it robs meaning and context from anything that focuses on minimalist mechanics and/or design. The word "simulator" implies something cold and mechanical that, well, simulates a certain action, or profession with mathematical accuracy. Gone Home isn't a "walking simulator". It's purpose isn't to fucking simulate how fucking legs work and contort to form the action of walking, its about learning and inhabiting a space rich with narrative and meaning. It's like saying a dramatic novel that goes into the details of the mundane life of a janitor is a handbook to janitor skills in the workplace. The term "Walking Simulator" needs to die, or at least someone should make an actual walking simulator so we can use it for something. But yeah, fuck the internet.

"Fuckface" and "shithead" are very inclusive curse words that I use. Sometimes, I rely on "Pendejo" sometimes, which is probably the only non-gendered Spanish curse word I can think of.

It's even worse when those people mask themselves as not complaining because of those aspects. I see plenty of comments saying that whoever hates Gone Home is pegged as a homophobe or sexist, which of course ridiculous, but then they proceed to kinda confirm they are both of those things by bringing up lame stereotypes and getting angry that "PEOPL ONLY LIK DIS CUZ OF THE LESBAISNS!111! FUK U SJW SCUM!!11/1", which is of course, bullshit.

I'm in for whatever CS stuff ya guys wanna do. I suggest we should try sometime the community made gamemodes, the silly ones I mean, such as Jail Break or CS: Minigames. As janky as they are, they bring plenty of good fun and hilarity. As long as assholes and 10 year olds aren't in the server.

This thread seems to have turned into a farce.

Man, I really hope they modeled my house in Chicago! That'd be nuts to visit in a game! But yeah, the only that bugs me is the bog standard premise. I'd be fine if they just made the protag just some guy angry at the injustices of the world and using his hacking skills to seek justice. Cliche, but simple and not using women as plot device. That's what I assumed the story would be, but then I saw the whole "my wife died, I am angry man, want revenge thing". C'mon AAA devs, don't hinge on tropes like that. I'm also bugged by the fact that I know they're not going to say anything on modern day government surveillance and media saturation, which is a shame because you can say a lot on that right now. But yeah, it still looks neat, and the extra systems they are promising to build out from the delay sound pretty cool. Can't wait to explore Navy Pier in a video game! God, I hope you can eat in the game, I'd totally eat at the Bubba Gump restaurant at Navy Pier. Oh, and the Ferris Wheel. Oh and, the fucking Bean! Aaaaaah. Also: Truth!

Oh lordy, this game's soundtrack is monstrous, horrific bliss. I absolutely love it. Sword & Sworcery had a beautiful soundtrack. And a wonderful remix of one of the songs!

Look, I already know we're not going to end up agreeing and this will deviate into an endless, pointless debate (also not personally in the mood or have time to argue on anything on the internet right now), so I'll just say "Agree to disagree" and leave it at that. So anyway, second Burial at Sea episode is out. Anyone get to play it yet? Here's Alec Meer's review.

I can't explain this, but to me, despite it being heavily controlled and probably scripted as you say, it felt indicative of an actual work and had many of the different mechanics and ideas they had been talking about before that demo reveal. It was after 2012 that those systems and mechanics were talked about less and changes started to appear during the few months before the game's March release. Whoah, I never said that BI was just the work of one self absorbed auteur. Read: Perhaps I should've specified that it was a hodge-podge of a game by an entire team. That's my own fault. And I understand that everything I'm saying is speculation, and hence why I said this: I want that context, for the benefit of criticism and the benefit of those who worked at Irrational who want to speak up their minds on the project. Also, (which I didn't state before) for the benefit that whatever negative practices occurring at Irrational can slowly stop occurring in the industry at large. Oh no, "the something happened" is in reference to the game's propositions beyond just the demo, but multiple interviews, dev videos, and such that touted both design and narrative ideas that were never present or barely fleshed out in the final game, and were freely talked about when the game had its original 2012 release date. And then, as we all know, it was pushed to early 2013 and there was literally months of silence till late 2012, when Irrational started giving out screenshots and brand new trailers that showed a different game. And really, nobody knows if that demo or any info on the game before 2012 was true or not unless you worked at the studio. Like I said and tried to say before, I'm just stating my own assumptions, in order to get to the main point I wanted to make, which is I want more open studios and greater developer visibility. Or else, we'll just end up staring at a bunch of amazing failures like Infinite, without learning anything about how to avoid such failures or anything that may give insight and context as to why it ended up being a failure. That I shall never debate against. It's the most visually and aurally beautiful game I've played in a long time. The artists should be commended and Garry Schyman further proves himself as one of the best music composers for games. Yet, that doesn't change my negative opinion on the game.
