  1. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Did anyone skip/forget this part: “…there’s just so many people like in the office, on the internet who were just like y’know, ‘Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, I can’t wait to get rid of her.’” "‘Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, I can’t wait to get rid of her.’” "'I can’t wait to get rid of her.’" Um, yeah. that may be the biggest problem here. The admission that Telltale, or at least these two twats, wanted to kill off this already abused, badly treated disabled character cuz LOL, SHE'S ANNOYING, AMIRITE GUYS? GUYS is probably the most fucked up and main problem here.
  2. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I think it's fucked up to give an opinion on a situation without actually understanding what the situation is. This isn't only "Telltale mishandled a young, non-white disabled girl in a story". This is Telltale expressing GLEE in how they ended up treating this character and admitting to being subservient to a shitty vocal fan base. They admitted that a character they created, a disabled young girl, was "annoying" because of how she always holds back the survivors (a common narrative trope in survival stories featuring disabled or vulnerable people, particularly women) and thus, SPOILERS killed her off because of that END GROSS ASS SPOILERS (and cuz shitty fans wanted that as well) and agree with Greg Miller's disgusting remarks of how she was annoying and how "not normal" she was. This. Only that they specify that Telltale in general seemed to share that joy and anticipation.
  3. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Purposefully not posting this in the TWD thread because it's not just an issue of the games, but an issue with Telltale. For fucking shame. Obvious spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 2, but to be honest, I'd say read this regardless, as this makes me legitimately hope people stop supporting Telltale. On Telltale Games’ Ableist Treatment of Sarah The lack of professionalism and disgraceful treatment of not just a young person of color, but a disabled one at that is utterly disgusting and terrible The Walking Dead games have been about how individualism in moments of distress and chaos can lead people to dehumanize and isolate those we are closest with. This news, though, kinda confirms an assumption and fear I've had about about game narratives for a long time. When is a game crafted with hearts, minds, and souls of people, and when is it manufactured like a product, to simulate that it was made with hearts, minds, and souls? I don't even think an apology would suffice to me, as this leaves bare what seem to be Telltale's true intentions with this series. Vocal fan outcry seems to decide how they design and write their games. I have rarely used the word "hack", as I've always thought of it as a overblown, and often hilarious word to call people who do works of art in a manufactured, impersonal way for the benefit of fans. But this is one of the few moments where I'm calling Telltale as a bunch of hacks. And it's weird to me, because I'm considering on dropping my support of Idle Thumbs, knowing that it features two ex-Telltale employees and one Telltale employee that only still works there, but even wrote for one of the episodes. This is all around really shitty, and I am dead certain that by tomorrow, everyone will forget this. And that's fucked up.

I'm now imagining a weird existential conversation with it, that ends in blood and tears. HitchBOT, a David Lynch film.

  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I've started a critical analysis playthrough stream of System Shock 2! I was going to post it in the Plug Your Shit thread, but I'm not really showcasing any talent here, but rather my thoughts on the game. Any feedback would be appreciated. http://www.twitch.tv/thecineaste03/b/554603187
  10. Streaming this game again in 6 minutes! http://www.twitch.tv/thecineaste03 Shit actually nevermind. Can't play it at the moment, since I'm sharing the game and friend is playing a game at the moment.
  11. My cousin's Xbox 360 still has this dashboard version. He's never used his Xbox's online features, so he still has that classic On Blade™ action.

I re-watched Alejandro González Iñárritu's film Biutiful. A powerful and extremely arresting tragic story. I'll never forget it.

I typed "Dark Souls is for the streets" in Youtube. This is what I got.
  16. Feminism

Like I said, that post was a stream of consciousness and didn't take that in consideration, so i deeply apologize if I've insulted anyone who frequents that thread. That's...not my point at all. My point was just lamenting the fact that the lack of women (and minorities in general) within this forum and community in general is troubling since we don't get a wide range of voices on these issues from people who actually are affected by those issues. To put an example, if someone made a thread about Latino/Hispanic issues in America, I'd also feel kinda weird. I'd see mostly white guys talking about something that they may understand, but little to no actual Latino/Hispanic people talking about those things. It's just weird and sad to me. I can't even describe it really, the fact minority issues are considered by a committee of mostly white, well-meaning white dudes is just a weird image. I guess in the end, my post's point is that I just wish there was more diversity in this forum, but I have no absolute idea how to reach that goal at the moment. Uh what? That sounds like a very mean-spirited and hand-wavey thing to say, from you and that other person. I'm just going to assume that you're not bothered that people are clamoring for more diversity, because if you are, then shit...
  17. Feminism

Sometimes I read this thread, and I just wish there were more women withing this community. Not to say that all ya'll dudes' thoughts on feminism are wrong (I'm confident in saying this nearly everyone who posts frequently in this forum feminist and progressive), yet it feels odd that this thread about women centric issues is a platform for the voices of people who're the farthest away from ever having to experiencing these issues ever in their entire lives (same goes with the LGBQT thread, but that thread at least was started by a queer lady). I had this exact conversation with a friend who skimmed through the forums, and left with that same kind of feeling. His exact words were, "I mean, when you watch the convos unfold there it's very clear -- like in any other social setting, this is a room of white guys." I'd say the same thing about the Idle Thumbs podcast as well, that, despite featuring very good people, it's another podcast with white dudes (until lately of course). In a way, Idle Thumbs and its community is the most open boy club to exist on the internet. We're not telling girls to get away from our tree house, but we're not inviting them or considering them coming to our tree house. Now, I don't know if there is a solution to this, and I have no solution to suggest at the moment. This is just me rambling and pointing something that kinda bugs me and worries me, and is, of course, very related to this thread's main topic. Yet, in the words of that same friend again, "...it's still a good litmus for the site [for better or worse]. Any other game site would have deleted this by now." That idea both makes me happy and makes me sad. In another forums\, this thread would've been closed the day it was made, as privileged, sexist gamer bros start complaining that the evil feminazis are coming for their precious video games in their precious community. Say kudos for not being that! And yet, this community's extreme lack of diversity on all fronts is something I hope changes as time goes by. But right now, there's tons to improve. Note: I may be changing some small things in this post since this was all a stream of consciousness, just so I can be more clearer.
  18. Voting this for new Dota Today intro song.

I've been replaying Dead Space on PC, and goddamn, that game still looks pretty. It's use of lighting, shadow, steam, and fog still hold remarkably, as will as amazing staging by way of environmental storytelling and architecture.

Everyone needs to watch this movie. This is a fucking good movie.
