  1. anime

Um I guess if you're interested? The anime does a good job of treading the general plot lines of the game, without the grind. However, the way anime tells the tale of the game is weird. So there's P4: The Animation, which is pretty much the general plot-line of the game. I have to confess I didn't watch it all, but apparently it ends with the bad ending. (Basically, in the game, there is one unavoidable event which decides what ending your going to get. It's the most stupid part of the game, because it revolves around a dialogue tree where if you incorrectly choose 1 of the 5 options presented, you just get the bad ending. And you have to get the correct option 5 times in a row before you can do the final boss. Which is super lame, and really unobvoius. ) Then there's the P4 Movies, which is either in 4 parts, starting from the beginning, but gives you the 'good' ending, or just one movie, where it shows the 'good' ending. I'm not sure. And then finally there's P4 Golden: The Animation, which again is a re-telling, but just focusing on the new character that's in the PS Vita P4. Which is super weird as it jumps all over the plot, and doesn't even mention huge chunks of it, just that all of a sudden people are your friends. It's currently airing, so I don't know how it'll end. So yeah, if you've no interest in the game (which is really good), give the anime a shot, as it does a good job of getting the story down, which is the most interesting part of the game. I feel you might miss out on the love-lines and social rank stuff, as there's hours of content that they can't put in.
  2. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Oh man I don't think I've been as excited for DLC as Mario Kart 8's DLC (and purchased as quickly). That the cups are just sitting there, is frustratingly tantalizing. Anyways funny comics for the dlc:
  3. Idle Thumbs 173: Ridonkulous Rift

Sorry What's worse it that it puts further astigmatism (not sure if that's the correct word) on people who like anime. What's even worse is that the internet has gone super cyclical, as I had a conversation with my best friend about how his friend has sided with the internet over the whole Zoe thing. I was kinda shocked at this, as his friend is someone I also knew and thought he was a decent bloke. Now I'm strongly re-considering that assessment. The 2 main arguments against her seems to be that she started it, attacking 2 people who wrote some negative stuff about Depression Quest on 4chan. The other one is that she is a pathological liar. I'm sure these aren't true. Can someone please help me disprove these facts to my friend? I'm pulling up blanks as to how anyone would be stupid enough to believe this shit
  4. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

For quite a while now. You can also hide your unwanted games now too, in case your 300 hours spent on Bejeweled 3 is too embarrassing to show.
  5. I think Sean summed Ubi's development structure quite aptly, saying it's a 'paint-by-numbers game design'. The more games they make, the more apt it becomes.
  6. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

    When I make a game, I'm going to call it "10/10 - ign.com".

Where's the third? Also I'm guessing Hawlucha is probably a cert, as he's fairly prominent in the pokemon anime, and I guess is pretty popular. As well as flippin' awesome. I don't think it's limited at all to just fighting types, just because it's a fighting game. I was thinking that a super lazy thing I could see them do is just re-skin Tekken characters (or at least ape their fighting style): Rodger Jr. will be Charizard, Eddie will be Hitmonlee, Ganryu will be Snorlax, Paul will be Machamp, Gon will be Cubone, The list goes on. I hope they don't do that though, as it'd be lame. I'm happy that they decided to go with the Tekken fighting style/engine over Street Fighter and Arc System's fighting systems/engine, as I find it way more enjoyable and fun, as well as very beginner friendly. It'd be also super neat if it was a nice introduction to fighting games. The control scheme also lends itself nicely to the WiiU gamepad. Also also is this been a well known badly kept secret or something? Everyone talks about it like it's a thing that they've wanted for years, yet I've never heard of it until now. :/
  8. Super Time Force from Capy

I agree, Aimy McKillin is my favourite, followed by the grenade guy. Also Super Time Force: Ultra's acronym is STFU. I don't know whether that's intentional or not, but it made me chuckle.

As this also is kinda the pokemon thread, and I don't think it'll get much traction as a separate topic, Pokken Tournament has been announced. The previously un-wanted crossover of Tekken and Pokemon. I'm not sure if I want it, or if I just want more information on how it'll work and the fighter roster. Check out the video: Either way, it looks like Tekken x Street Fighter is shelved for another year.

Guys, secret of the Magic crystals is half price this week! what a bargain! What a game! http://store.steampowered.com/app/45100/

Is there no chance that Dr. Mario could just be an alt. costume for mario? I mean they play exactly the same way.

I really enjoyed hotel dusk. The puzzle with the puzzle (if that makes sense) always sticks with me as an ingenious use of the DS. Although this was a while ago, and just after the first Phoenix Wright, if I remember correctly. I just finished DmC, as in the gritty prequel remake thing that Ninja Theory made. I hated the people, the writing, the dialogue and especially the music. The intro was so distasteful I turned it off and didn't touch it for a month or two (I got it on PS+) until coaxmetal on the idle thumbs IRC said it was quite good. After getting past the first 10 minuets, the game gets better. The action is quite good and fluid (although not quite reaching the heights of Bayonetta's), also the level design is really good. particular highlights is the dance floor and the mansion that gets torn apart. It was also the first time I've ever been disgusted in a video game. I generally have a high tolerance for messed up shit, but the baby boss was gross. seeing the lady getting sucked into his belly-button was really off-putting and disturbing. So congratulations there I guess? The problem I had with everything else was how juvenile it all was. It was like a teenager's power dream. Fuck the man, yeah? ooohhh corporations are bad. Who can trust the news? ooohh not me! grrrr. A perfect example is when he gets to the night club, punches the bouncer in the face, then writes 'fuck you' on the waiting list and walks in. He also does it in a red pen, because he's presumably angry, although the rest of the waiting list was written in black ink. He gets the pen by catching the pen which is knocked into the air which the bouncer was holding, when he was punched. Presumably he'd be writing it in black ink then? Unless the bouncer had one of those 4-way biros. They didn't delve into this much, I have to say. also the writing was thicker, like he was using a marker pen. Yet he clearly clicked the pen before he wrote, insinuating a use of a biro. UNACCURATE. I HATE THIS GAME.

sweet! I didn't know that Spoon did a new album. Hopefully they'll go on tour too. Double hopefully in the UK. My favorite spoon track is still don't make me a target:

The system specs say it requires 50GB of data, so I'm guessing yes
  15. My favourite Evangelion-based merch/advertising campaign has to be the shick razors: That shinji's dad is happier shaving than he is talking to his son is hilarous to me. The worst thing about it is that it sells like fucking hot cakes over in Japan. We couldn't get a hold of the razor holder for love nor money when I was in Japan, and the campaign was in full swing then. Back to hot toys - their latest offering looks fucking amazing. Something Ben X would probably want badly:
  16. anime

See, my view on the whole second half was that I don't remember Near much, but he was annoying. but so was everything after the second half. I also didn't watch the anime, so it might be different. For what it's worth, the live action movies (well, the first 2) are actually quite good, and end before the second half in a really satisfying and logical way. I kinda wished the manga would have done the same.
  17. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Ugh Co-op sneek-peek gameplay. Looks so flippin good. I love how they strategise and stuff. This game. I'm more excited for this game than anything else right now.
  18. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

All I know about Planescape is from a really interesting discussion on the Daft Souls podcast, which made me want to play it. But the things I guess were spoilered sounds like pretty important spoilers. Is there loads more that'll suprise me? the things that were spoiled were
  19. Feminism

I've never commented on this thread, as I don't really have any intelligent thoughts on feminism, but my work colleagues were talking about the tumblr hashtag 'Women Against feminism' and thought you'd like to see it: http://womenagainstfeminism.tumblr.com/ The worst: Sorry if you guys have already seen/heard of this. After reading the last page or so, I guess I'm playing depression quest when I get home.
  20. Recently completed video games

I completed Yakuza 4. Ugh. 37 hours and only 24% completion rating on my first playthrough. Admittedly after the first character, I just blitzed the story and ignored the side-quests, as there are fucking loads. But not shitty half-assed side-quests. Whole fleshed out side-quests that are like a completely different game. There's a Training simulator, there's a Dating simulator, there's a digging-for-treasure mission, there's a fucking crane game simulator. And they are all completely separate from everything else. There is nothing that forces you to do them. They can be completely ignored. It's fucking weird. and also what makes the game so good. It's also a hilarious game, in the way Japanese games are funny. Being weird and also totally over-the-top. But yet all kinda coherent. The story has a lot of laughs, but by far the best is the revelations side-quests. These are cut-scenes which you have to find in the world (there's an email you get which hints towards their location). Upon activation of the cutscene, you have to enter a QTE whilst watching a scene, usually quite amusing, and then answer a question, as to which the character will commit it to memory and you'll learn a new technique if you get it right. How you commit it to memory is the funniest thing though. One guy gets out a block of wood, and there and then chisels an immaculate wood sculpture of the attack he's learnt. It's fantastic. I've also never played a Yakuza game before, but it's made me want to play the rest. The story also made sense, and didn't rely on intricate knowledge of the series.
  21. anime

I really don't think this season is a dud at all. ZnT is getting better, but I do agree with you. I have also just found out that it's an original anime, and not based off a manga. Now I'm veering towards it being an interesting thing because it's not tied down to anything. I do fear that Tokyo Ghoul will have a crappy anime ending. Who knows! only time will tell. Also Space Dandy season 2! It's fantastic! I mentioned it briefly, but Monthly Girl's Nozaki-kun is fantastic. It turns all the shojo tropes and turns it on it's head. It's flippin hilarious story about a girl falling for a guy, who happens to write manga for a shojo magazine. It's about their developing relationship and getting inspiration and ideas for his manga. It also has a fantastic opening song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm1VLvOSmRc I have also heard good things about Akame ga Kill! But I haven't gotten round to watching it yet. I thought the same thing about Haikyuu! too, which was doubly refreshing as it's a shonen manga. If you liked Eden, check out Eve no Jikan. It's by the same studio/artist and it's really lovely. Also very short, but will make you cry. I need to watch Eden of the East.

  23. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Some of the more disturbing ones I know of: Yamask: These Pokémon arose from the spirits of people interred in graves in past ages. Each retains memories of its former life. Cubone: Cubone pines for the mother it will never see again. Seeing a likeness of its mother in the full moon, it cries. The stains on the skull the Pokémon wears are made by the tears it sheds. Drifloon: A Pokémon formed by the spirits of people and Pokémon. It loves damp, humid seasons. Also Drifloon: These Pokémon are called the "Signpost for Wandering Spirits." Children holding them sometimes vanish. Pokemon can be pretty dark. There's also a theory that in Red/Blue, you are the first generation after a war, your dad is dead and that your best friend is an orphan.

My first ever shiny was a combee. I was devastated when I learnt it didn't evolve. It was like the pokegods slapping me for my good fortune. Oh! You should get a shiny eevee family! badass. blueass.
