  1. Backlog Busters

How do you complete KSP? I just thought it was endless. So far I've sunk 180 hours into this game. My GF has 220. Good luck! I suggest you choose your own definition of 'end game', because there are achievements in game, outside of G-Rank, and they're ludicrous, especially if you want to get them all.
  2. anime

Yeah. I felt that it was a bit of a disappointment. There was a lot of potential, especially considering the importance of Kaoru to Shinji, but it kinda flopped around on everything. The piano scene was ace though. I think the main problem was that after the events of the second film, everything felt so pointless.

The other thing you forgot to mention in relation to this was that budgeting was severely cut when all the sponsors of the show pulled out half way through production. I feel that nowadays studios know when they got a hit on their hands. Take AoT. Whilst I know it's got a lot of vitriol around here, and it's not a good comparison to EVA or Utena, it's fucking popular as eggs, and the animation studio knew that. The budgeting and animation reflect that well. For a TV anime, combat with the 3D gear is really well animated, and it looks lovely. If the bad animation bothers you that much, watch the rebuild films, which are a retelling. Kinda. Although I doubt you'll get the same impact I experienced for the 2nd film, which is honestly the best anime film I've ever watched.
  4. I guess not liking the character design is subjective, but I don't think it's uninspired. I love the design of this guy, Trowzer the sale-snake: I do really think the colour palette is more refined than, say, Viva Pinata. To me it looks like the BK cover/advert art, but now an actual game. Also, yeah, BK definitely holds up today. I remember obsessing over the eggs and Ice Key when I was a kid. Was it only me who found Tooie to be really dissapointing?

Damnit now I want to read Punpun more than ever. My GF has been hounding me to read it for ages. One thing I really loved about Bakemonogatari (and I presume the later seasons, I never watched them) was the dialouge. It was fast and word-play heavy, but it felt weirdly natural. Or at least more natural than other anime. After reading this thread I also want to start watching the show again. I stopped after Bakemonogatari too. Personally I really hate the Shaft style. Mekaku City Actors was also really bad for it. I can't stand how they take the original author's work, and then completely re-draw it to their own style. Also, on the talk about Bakemonogatari, there is an amazing anime series called Katanagatari which is written by the same author as Bake, but isn't as awful. I really emplore you all to check it out, as it's really good.
  6. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

yaay! Well done! Welcome to the fold! Congrats on G Rank! We are nearly there too! Just got the urgent on HR7. Fuck that Snake! On a completely unrelated note, The power and armour charms you can buy from the shops when you get to 10* Caravan quests are really useful. You can combine them with a deviljho claw and get armour/powerclaw, which increases your defence/attack even more, and then get another charm for even more defense! The only downside is the 4 slots in your inventory you lose to this.

Damn, I've been meaning to write about Punch Line for a while now. I loved the first episode, I found it really funny, but then it swiftly went down hill so fast. The second episode was a mess. And now it seems that the main protagonist doesn't even care about getting his body back. I'm still watching it, because I have some blind faith that noitaminA knows what they're doing. Yeah, Dan-Machi (the shortened version of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) isn't good at all. I hate pretty much everyone there. They're all so annoying. I really, really, hate the main protagonist's view that 'the only way he can get a girl is to be strong'. It really irks me, because that's a really horrible attitude to have. ugh. And then Hestia is annoying as eggs, pretty much all the way through. I kinda want to watch more, but only to see how bad it gets. The best thing this season is still My Love story. Fucking hell it's so sweet, and lovely, and it's amazing.
  8. PS Vita

Fair enough. I don't think that there's going to be much academic knowledge to gleam off of the games though. Most of the tropes are purely community based, and usually come from a combination of the music videos and lyrics, which are loosely mentioned in the visuals of the song, but are otherwise lost, unless you know Japanese. Hatsune Miku is definitely a really interesting cultural phenomenon which is constantly evolving, yet with no central repository that I know of which has good reporting on it. And yeah, there was input lag, which was awfully fixed in the first ps3 game by moving a slider. I haven't played 2 yet on the PS3, but I hope they've fixed that. The problem with the PSP games, however, was that for some of the more intense songs, it felt like you were tapping the buttons, but registering as a long note, so constantly missing. Maybe it was just that one insanely hard song. I do really like the miku games, but then again I was a big fan before the games came out. I'm just a bit worried as to how much enjoyment you'll get out of it without knowing anything about them. Dissidia is really, really good. Don't play 1, just go stratigt to 2. Which is cleverly called 012 Duo Decim. Also LocoRoco 1 & 2 are worth a look, as well as patapon. Although they're not RPGs.
  9. PS Vita

So I'm going to assume that the Vita Miku game is going to be a very similar beast to the PSP & PS3 games, all of which I have played. There are 2 parts to these games, the rhythm game part and the 'home' part. Each of which are their own separate thing, and don't really mix. So the music is a mix of rock, pop, and electro. Some songs are clearly better than others. Some have that super annoying thing of speaking way too quick to understand anything, but they're the minority. Generally I enjoyed them all, bar a few. If you don't like the synth voice of Miku and her Voca companions, you're not going to enjoy this. The game part is actually quite an enjoyable rhythm game. the outline of one of the 4 face button symbols appear on the screen, then the symbol flies in from a side, you press the appropriate symbol when they are over each other, and get a rating depending on accuracy. You can also use the directional arrows as well, which is needed for the big arrows, where you have to press both the appropriate directional arrow and face button at the same time. There's also a rockband-esq 'hold' note to add into the mix. Basically dance dance revolution, but the symbols are all over the screen. It's pretty good fun, but the screen can become quite cluttered with symbols flying everywhere, which can be disorientating. I think the added functionality for the miku games on the vita is that you have to tap the back for the star symbols. This is replaced with L/R on the PS3. Finishing songs gives you points, based on your performance. Points can be spent on alt costumes and stuff for the 'house' The 'house' is the slightly creepy part, whereby you have your favourite diva, which you can make happy by giving her presents, filling her house with tat, and (in the ps3 version at least) stroking her hair. This wasn't such a huge feature in the PSP games, but the PS3 version has that loaded up when you start, and it was a tad weird for me. My favourite one so far was the second one on the PSP. It had the best songs, and wasn't so hung up about the home side, and it introduced duets, which was really cool. Saying that, the first PS3 one has my favourite miku song on. Finally, as a comparison, P4:DAN is more similar to an arcade game in japan than Miku, which is like a reverse gitaroo man.. You won't need to train on Miku at all, unless you just want an excuse to buy a miku game. In which case, go ahead! You'll probably enjoy it! (providing you have any interest in miku, that is).

For what it's worth, SMTIV has a 50% sale on, which ends today. for £9 it seems like it's worth the go. I do hear that it's pretty good.
  11. Recently completed video games

Again, that's only in multiplayer :/
  12. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

You'll probably get a huge kick out of Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth on the 3DS Griddlelol, It's got the cast of P3 and P4, as well as being a really fun JRPG. I played P3P and it was fun, but I hear that the PS2 P3:FES is better, purely because you can actually run around in the enviroments, not just scroll through static screens like in P3P.

Fuck. How did I not see that? I retire.

Is the Wii region locked? If not I've been wanting this game for an age!

And Revolver Ocelot has an extendible ocelot.
  16. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Damn. All this Splatoon talk is making me regret not being able to go on on Saturday! I hope they do another test fire round soon! I guess that'll be me then? DK:TF is definitely a better game than DKCR. whilst I enjoyed DKCR, the control scheme was awful, and the areas are tied down a lot to the old game. I remember a lot of very flat levels, and whilst the secrets are cool and hard to find in some places, it did feel very much like a flat land with some set pieces. With DK:TF, it's off the rails pretty much from the get go. The game is astoundingly hard, and some of the levels are amazing. A particular highlight was the whole world that's set in a juice factory. As for the coop, the only downside to co-op is that p2 can't change ape mid game, which is annoying as hell, especially because some KONG letters and secret areas are on places that only cranky can get to. There's a tag-attack, which kills everything on the screen. And the choice between diddy, dixie and cranky is a weird one. Especially because Dixie is essentially a better version of Diddy, and cranky is only useful in about 4 levels. For me, co-op took a real back bench. There's a lot of areas where it's essential that Dixie is on the back of DK, to get DK across, that I found I was always asking my GF to jump on my back, where she can't control jack and I'm racing through the levels. Eventually she stopped playing, as it was very clear that it's not really designed with co-op. If you could at least get the second person to change kong in level select, that wouldn't be so bad. But then again, why choose anyone else apart from Dixie? Also the tag attack is activated by being on the back of DK, I think. Still, excellent game, and worth every penny. Would whole-heartedly recommend it.

I have this fig. One day I knocked it over and now I'm missing a bunch of stationery bits. So I use the other variant where she's just holding staplers. Well boring. Talking about Kill La Kill, there's a really cool fig coming out that I've already shamelessly pre-ordered (spoiler + NSFW):
  18. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I believe the 'proper' matchmaking that they are complaining about is from this part of the press-release: Which is a fair gripe, to be honest. Not one that'll effect me though! I agree wholeheartedly with you, and I'm actually more pumped knowing there's no voice chat. Nothing I hate more than people talking to me whilst I'm concentrating.
  19. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Man I'm super pumped for Splatoon. there was a Nintendo Direct today, and they announced that there's going to be a 'Global Testfire Demo' which you can download now, and play on May 9th. On top of that, you get a 10% discount for simply owning the demo. Amazing. Who's going to play on the 9th?
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, in comparison it's not that much at all. I'm just saying that she's still sexualised to some degree? idk what I'm saying, ignore me and carry on.
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Did you get to Gaur Plains? I don't think you're very far away from it, if you are where I think you are. I also don't think it's amazing, but I've been sticking with it, and the story is quite fun, and the characters are hopelessly optimistic. Gaur Plains did take me back a little. The whole range of enemies in that field was really awesome, and the sheer scope was kinda mind-blowing. I am playing it on the N3DS, which is the way I like to play RPG's. The battle system is also weird, but you get used to it and I quite like it. You can also at any time swap characters and have a completely different play style. As for the weird loot items, most are used for gem crafting, apart from that, there are quest-specific items that'll be made apparent later in the story. The British voice acting is super weird, but I kinda enjoy it. Also if you're playing on the Wii version you can change it to Japanese. But I'm guessing you're playing on the 3DS given your context. The only bit that has annoyed me so far is one random part where you have to collect 4 things for no real good reason to activate a lift. Only then to find out All in all though, I like Xenoblade! Get out of Colony 6 and things pick up!
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

Sure, but she is wearing a skin-tight jumpsuit instead, which doesn't leave much to the imagination.
