  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

On the ableism thing, it was about an autism/aspergers tweet, that I was pretty sure was actually just a photoshopped hoax? Unless I'm either mistaken about that, or she's said other things. The unfollowing, denouncement, etc., all seems rather silly.
  2. Have we already speculated that he's ranger rick (?) from Gone Home? Steve could start insinuating that it's a prequel to Gone Home.
  3. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I found the first one quite a bit of fun, but something about the recipe broke for the second one and it just wasn't nearly as engaging or enjoyable.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

If we're going to make a high school movie out of gg, can't it at least be Heathers.
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

I thought part of the story was that they also gave Pandora curiosity, basically guaranteeing she would open it, but letting them put the responsibility on Pandora's shoulders rather than their own.
  6. You can fast forward through long repeat sections, but part of what made playing through it fun is that 3 of us were playing, and each took different characters to read and made different choices. That was a blast, but isn't nearly as engaging once you've seen half the content. I was surprised at some of the new stuff in the second playthrough though, so there may be more there than I'm giving it credit for.
  7. I might just do the same, the second playthrough had enough repeat content (even with making all different choices), that I'm not sure I'm terribly interested in going through it a dozen times or more to get all the pieces unlocked.
  8. Not watching LALALALALALALALALALALALAALLALALALALALALA.
  9. The Stanley Parable

In Season 1 and partway through 2, he plays shooters (mostly CoD I think) to blow off steam in the evenings. But once he becomes VP, the Secret Service tells him connecting online gaming services is too much of a security risk and they can't allow it. I haven't got to this part of Season 3 yet, but I'm assuming he's just playing SP games now since he still can't go murder punks in CoD.
  10. Both, I think? Is there some sort of deeper mystery you can only uncover by replaying it a bunch of times?
  11. I Had A Random Thought...

The comment spawned an interesting conversation between the lady and I last night, about it being a potentially good thing if the negative connotation got lost. Like Eve, the story is about demonizing women (Pandora is the first woman) and curiosity, while encouraging blind devotion and faith. If you can flip that, even unintentionally, that's kind of an awesome thing to do.
  12. Half-Life 3

All that proves is that HTC didn't do their research on Valve before inking the deal.
  13. Hatoful Boyfriend is a weird fucking game.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

It happened today, which is why I was curious. Someone used it mean "an action that has an unintended, but positive outcome." This was someone quite a bit younger than me, and they had only a passing familiarity with the phrase, but a generally positive view of the word Pandora because of the music service, and so flipped the meaning of the phrase. So I was curious if this was something other people had encountered.
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

Pop Quiz: Do you feel Pandora's Box has a positive or negative association as a phrase?
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't think I would call the movie bad, it just lacks the attention to detail and the level of craft one expects from a Spielberg movie. Which, if it was because he was looking for a lightweigh project after Schindler's List, that makes a lot of sense. The San Diego sequence was my favorite part of it, as it felt pretty fresh compared to the rest of the movie.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

We had a movie party tonight, watched Jurassic Park 1 and 2. It's almost unbelievable that Spielberg was actually the director on both of those. The second one just feels like a sequel almost anyone could have phoned in.
  18. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

He's the Bill O'Reilly of video games. He knows he has an angry audience that wants to hear a particular message. That audience worships certain elder men in gaming as gods, so those men will always be defended, further enshrining their divinity. That same audience hates certain people, particularly certain women, and Bain is happy to look for excuses to demonize them. I'm surprised he hasn't coined his own version of the "No Spin Zone" yet.
  19. Scribblenauts and Crayon Physics Deluxe were fun toys I enjoyed playing with, but ultimately I prefer games that have their goals better integrated rather than constantly having to come up with my own goals. To be fair to Besiege though, it's early and things like that will given them the opportunity to put more variety and challenge into it.
  20. The more time that goes by, the more and more I'm missing Joystiq. None of the other gaming news options really does squat for me, at least not to just quickly check a couple of times a day. Blargh.
  21. Woah! There's a new Toejam and Earl game being Kickstarted! I only ever played the first one on the Genesis, but man I loved it. Probably my favorite Genesis game of all time.
  22. Life

Celebrity deaths don't bum me out that often, but Nimoy passing is a real blow. He's one of those actors who was ever present through all the stages of my development as a kid. Not just from Star Trek, but also those weird documentary things he narrated, In Search of and Ancient Mysteries. I also had a couple of the Alien Voices audiobooks (or checked them out from the library, I can't quite remember).
  23. If it was a game about the Escapist, wouldn't it be about the people who escaped the Escapist, thus earning themselves the true moniker of the Escapists?
  24. Life

I just finished up my taxes, and owe a chunk more than I expected. The last two years have been a roller coaster for the business, and getting my estimated payments right has been a pain in the ass.
