  1. "We've done this because it's clear we didn't understand exactly what we were doing." Words you never think a company will say, ever.
  2. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

For only $2.99, all your questions can be answered...and you can be left with even more questions.
  3. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

Huh. Konami is a huge company right, we just happen think of them as a gaming company, but they are much more diverse than that. I wonder if all this is actually more related to their other business interests, or if maybe there is an interest in leaving video games completely. That would explain the ousting of Kojima from the board.
  4. And I haven't torrented much of anything in years, other than the odd legacy game I haven't been able to find anywhere else. I suppose if I were still downloading a ton of stuff, it might be worth it, but at that point I'd still think about running it and the torrent in a sandbox to scan whatever was being downloaded and leave the rest of my machine alone.
  5. I dumped all third party anti-virus a couple of years ago and just go with a combo of zone alarm for software firewall, Microsoft's anti-virus tool, adblock, and noscript. My frustrations with all anti-virus programs (both paid and free) just reached a breaking point. So far I haven't found had any security issues (that I know about).
  6. Yeah, it was Velstadt that was the problem. The swing speed of the Pickaxe is slow enough that it was a bear to get a clean hit in on one of them without the other catching me with an attack during recovery. On the third fight, I got her down to just two more hits and bit it because I got aggressive to try and finish her off. That's when I rage quit and haven't been back there. Plus I might as well be naked given the protection of the Peasant gear. I may ultimately go back after them using one of my other weapons. My goal was to solo every boss with the Pickaxe, but I do carry a Hand Axe, Blacksmith's Hammer and Bone Scythe as weapons to clear the mobs on the way to the boss. The Bone Scythe looks ridiculous on him, but it's the only Str based Scythe, and I don't have the points to spare for Dex for one of the more fitting scythes. I also might be willing to make an exception and summon for some of these fights with multiple enemies. I got though the Sentinels, barely, and the Gargoyles were a cakewalk. But these multi-enemy boss fights in the DLC seem way meaner than the ones in the main game. I found that bonfire after having made the full run twice, and only because I looked it up. I felt like I had to have missed a bonfire, since DS2 is usually generous with bonfires before bosses. Oh, and they must have fixed the Puzzling Sword in the Scholar edition? I'm getting ~150 damage from scaling (without ring bonuses), and that feels about right for an S scaling weapon. It puts it about a hundred total damage behind something like the club or mace, which seems fair given how much better of a moveset it has.
  7. I need to go back to the DLC. I was feeling like I was barely able to handle the Sunken King with my Peasant build at the level I was (if the regular enemies there weren't so easy to backstab, I probably wouldn't have been able to handle it). While the Pickaxe hits like a truck, it isn't the most versatile weapon in the world, so I decided to progress through some more areas. The only boss I had fought was...Elena? I think that was her name. She kicked my ass three times and I decided to come back later. I also couldn't get summoned into anyone else's world to practice without having to repeat the run over and over, which is generally what I do when I lose to a boss multiple times. I've also made a couple of other builds, because I want to mix things up without respeccing my themed builds. I was going to try and do an all bow run, but after 4 or 5 areas decided that I would be happy with just killing all the bosses bow only. Clearing out an area with a bow isn't that hard, and mostly just time consuming. Some of the bosses are definitely a far different challenge though. I wanted a straight sword I hadn't used before to go with the build though, and the Puzzle Sword looked like a decent contender. HOLY SHIT IS THAT A NEAT WEAPON! It almost feels a bit broken, I can't think of another weapon in its weight class that has the moveset variety it does, and it hits just as hard as anything else that's comparable to it, and harder than a lot of other medium weapons. I'm having problems justifying using the bow as much now, because I just want to keep playing with this sword.

Kindle Cover Disasters - Yes, this is just as good as you are hoping it is. Also mildly NSFW, because some erotica is present.
  9. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

There were a lot of middling to poor opinions on Part 1, and I felt like it was one of the best games I played that year. Mechanically the puzzles could have been better, but I was fascinated with the themes and characters going on, and how few people picked up on them in the first few days. The only way I won't be happy with Part 2 is if it doesn't continue being Feminism: The Game.
  10. I semi-retract the horde of mobs thing. Some asshat decided that the Shrine of Amana needed even more casters. Tried sprinting through it because I didn't need any of the items and drops.. Got slaughtered twice and decided that was a bad idea.
  11. On your spoiler, there's more than one! On the boss, weak points! Look for glowey bits, very short weapons can struggle in this fight. The head is also super weak to ranged/thrown attacks. Those flees are the hardest mobs in the game, sprint past them to the castle and just come back and mop the courtyard up later. The castle is definitely doable at your level.
  12. I can't not think of him as Count Dookie.
  13. Fucking Miyazaki and the references in these games. Reading more fan theories, ran across this one. Oedon is the formless one worshiped by the church. Oedipism is the "Auto-enucleation (oedipism) and other forms of serious self-inflicted eye injury are an extremely rare form of severe self-harm that usually results from mental illnesses involving acute psychosis.[2] The name comes from Oedipus of Greek mythology, who gouged out his eyes in penance for having sex with his mother and killing his father." It certainly seems like Oedon and Oedipism are both derived from Oedipus, particularly given the focus on the game with eyes and the relationship of blindness/self-eye damage in Oedipus. Ummmm, also, don't search for auto-enucleation, not unless you're really in the mood to see some gross shit.
  14. I don't read much urban fantasy, but I like the Watch novels because I enjoy the workman like optimism in the face of crushing disillusionment that's present in some Russian works, similar to how I feel about the Metro games. I remember really enjoying Book 4. It gets into Merlin, what it means to be a 0-level other, the nature of the Twilight and a bunch of other stuff. Usually explaining those things takes the mystery out of fantasy, but in this case I felt it actually made the whole lore/world stronger.
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

I've blocked everything from change.org, they are overbearingly obnoxious. I have a wholly negative view of it as a service because of their mailing list.
  16. Oh, I didn't realize the fifth book was out in English now! I love those books, I should get it. I knew the first game existed, but I've never got around to trying it.
  17. Most people thought that was the case initially, but the Evelyn, Repeater, Reiterpallasch and Cannon (obvs) can all do significant damage, and the Rifle Spear to a lesser extent. It's just most builds don't end up maximizing for ranged damage because it makes more sense to focus on your melee weapons. Thinking about it, Space Souls would easily work on a massive Generation Ship that housed a utopian society. A society like that would reject, or just not possess, advanced weaponry but would probably still have things that could be repurposed as weapons or have weapons that were primarily used for sport. A location like that would also easily allow for the kind of interweaving level design people love about portions of the Souls games.
  18. My Ali character is a puncher and poisoner with the Black Scorpion Stinger (float like a butterfly, sting like a bee), and he's probably my favorite character of all the ones I've made. Not everything can be poisoned, so you have to have some other options, but it's great for things that can be.
  19. I've wondered about a sci-fi style Souls game before, but logistically I can't quite see how it works. You'd have to find a way to handwave away powerful ranged weapons, because they just don't fit with how these games play. All the Souls games are already taking place in post-collapse societies (or during the collapse), so I suppose you could go with some massive EMP wiping out most tech.
  20. That sucks! To be fair, as far as game population goes, Bloodborne and SotFS were just released within the last month or so, this would be a time when the population would be expected to be low. With that specific fight, did you happen to try poison in it? The vast majority of NPC types are susceptible to poison, and between knives and arrows with a short bow, you could stack poison on them pretty quickly while you kite so you're doing steady damage while waiting for an opening. In general though, I don't think any of the fights are particularly impossible solo, usually just require a specific approach or patience. Though in SotFS they have added a ton more summons, so there are NPCs available now for fights where they weren't before (like Masterless Glencour for the gargoyles). I don't know if they added NPCs for that fight.
  21. I would look at paid mods as something that if I buy them, I know that they may eventually break. It's kinda like buying an Early Access game or supporting a Kickstarter. There is some inherent risk involved, but at least with a mod, you're getting exactly what is advertised for some amount of time. Functionally, this isn't any different than what Second Life was doing years ago, is it? SL let people sell their creations for real money. I'm sure there was some drama around that, but there is at least one model for paid mod/consumer content in a game.
  22. Yeah, I unlocked that and haven't gone back to Bloodborne since. It looks really badass. Figured I'd let it settle in for a bit before picking it back up, plus I wanted to directly compare/contrast it to DS2. On a different topic, apparently there are some useful manuals hidden in the library in the Hunter's Dream.
  23. Seriously, that's gross. I fully support modders getting paid, but the percentage should be higher than that, probably at least 40 percent.
  24. I have never understood the hate for that movie. It's fabulous and fun.
  25. Digital Foundry has some test numbers up for the patch, respawn times for many areas after death/bold mark are even more improved than original loading times, with some areas loading more than 50 percent faster. Also, some of the unlisted changes include a nerf to the cannon making it cost 12 bullets per shot, reduction in bullet cost of some of the arcane hunter tools, the Forbidden Woods skip is closed and people are reporting that getting PvP/Co-op connections are much faster (though this just might be post-patch placebo effect). Axe! I <3 the axe so much.
