  1. Oh man, that's a great collection. I want to play this: I also think this ad was trying to warn us about the robot upgrising. I wonder if they're drinking Spector Oil.
  2. I had never seen that. Apparently they originally tried targeting an older audience, and when that failed....well, they went a different direction.
  3. True Pigeon Love: Hatoful Boyfriend

Holy shit, I played through like one and a half times, and have figured out at least some of the secret lore, but I had never actually gone and looked up all the endings. That secret playthrough you get is really fucked up. I wish that was something I could have experienced naturally, but realistically I never would have played through it enough times to get everything I needed.
  4. He's actually writing about a different ad, which I also found the text of on archive. The ad is from very late '99, so after the Dreamcast was released. Also worth noting, those ads ran in the Official Playstation Magazine. So, yeah, super insulting ads TARGETED at the people they were insulting.
  5. Found a copy of the text on Archive.org: Apparently it was part of an ad campaign that was really doubling down on seeing how many people they could insult (source): In my head, I've always heard woof like goof, but apparently I'm wrong according to pronunciation guides.
  6. Don't all three of those sound the same?
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

For muscle cars at least, you can't really have them quiet, they don't work that way. Now, a lot of people do make choices to make them even louder by choice of muffler, but it was never going to be quiet in the first place. And that sound is one of my favorite ones in the world. On my last muscle car, I would usually just cruise around with the radio off because I found the noise of the car itself so enjoyable. I miss that car, a bunch. I haven't been able to justify the cost of a car just for fun for over a decade.
  8. Are you getting that from somewhere else? Because there's nothing in the Kickstarter to indicate that.
  9. Feminism

Sure, I expect Republicans and conservatives to say dumb shit. But it's always nice to see someone carrying on the family legacy of saying dumb shit. Jeb Bush: "The problem with hypotheticals is two-fold. One, when I was governor I got to -- I felt it a duty, I didn't have to -- to call all the family members of people who lost their lives and I don't remember the total number but it was easily over 100. And I felt it a duty to do that because I admired the sacrifice of their families. And I admired the men and women -- mostly men -- that made the ultimate sacrifice. So, going back in time and talking about hypotheticals -- what would have happened what could have happened, I think, does a disservice for them." Oh, you mean a disservice like brushing aside the women who have been killed while serving their country?
  10. Idle Food - Cooking!

Pulled pork is one of the few things I routinely cook, and it's one of those great things where you can cook it on Sunday, and then have meat for sandwiches, tacos, nachos, whatever for the next week. Pulled pork tacos are really fucking good.
  11. To be fair, NASA has had problems with American contractors delivering work based on Imperial measurements that were supposed to be metric, which is what destroyed the Mars Climate Orbiter.
  12. I'm pretty sure that's considered a terrorist threat here.
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

So in the mind of gamergate, they're Hitler fighting against the hordes of sex crazed Puritans who want to enslave white men?
  14. Mad Max

I'd argue it's people's distrust of a history of hyperbolic video game marketing, and triply so when dealing with a licensed property. There's a reason the IGN blow-you-away thing is a meme around here, we've been promised the moon and sold chalk rocks too many times.
  15. Feminism

Shit, you know what, it is the Democracy guy, my bad. I only glanced at the twitter handle and misread it for Cliff B's (his full name is Cliff Bleszinski and the Democracy guy's twitter handle is cliffski).
  16. Feminism

Thank the plaid and denim gods that Blow is here to explain women to us: I wonder if Blow has heard of the word patronizing? Leigh also called him out for this bullshit. Yep, pretty much the entire interaction is Blow saying something stupid, Leigh calling bullshit, and him doubling down on what he said.
  17. Recently completed video games

Every single time, that's my experience. With Skyrim I was really happy I just quit. I had my fun for a couple of weeks, and walked away. With F3, because of my incredible fondness for the Fallout series, I pushed all the way to the end and hated the game because of it. I wish I would have just walked away from it.
  18. Feminism

Oh, Blow can fuck right off. journalistic malfeasance. Really, journalistic malfeasance? Maybe Blow should be hanging out at KiA. Oh yes, this article was all about those sweet, mad loot hitz!
  19. Feminism

Holy shit, this whole thread. I've never made a storify, but for people who don't have the time to read through the tweets, here's Blow declaring that he knows better what feminists ought to be talking about than feminists do: Funnily enough, that was a response to someone linking to the appeal to bigger problems fallacy. Which Blow managed to prove with his reply. Leigh calls him on his bullshit, so he takes his toys and leaves. Cliff (developer of Democracy) and Blow both agree it's a made up problem that doesn't exist: And Cliff declares himself a Bridge Builder! While saying that perhaps feminists ought to look elsewhere for sexism rather than how people dress in game development. Leigh calls Cliff on his bullshit, so he takes his toys and leaves. Like is it that fucking inconceivable that the culture of a group can be alienating to people outside that group, and the way that people dress and/or present themselves can be a part of that group culture, therefore helps perpetuate part of the alienation? This is pretty basic shit. We've known that dress codes (both official and unofficial) can be tools of exclusion, usually aimed at cultural minorities or women. At a minimum, it's an interesting question to ask and take a look at, rather than simply immediately dismiss out of hand. Edited: I misread cliffski's twitter handle as Cliffy B's, different devs with very similar names.
  20. Feminism

Men sure do get defensive when people talk about what they wear. Are you getting the devs' reactions of Twitter, or is there somewhere that has them gathered up?
  21. Very, there are quite a few places where a torch is actually useful. Oh, and a big change is that:
  22. There are 4 things that I know about, there may be more:
  23. This is my new favorite DS2 video. Fucking asshole archers.
  24. I'd say it's the kind of experience that can exacerbate existing fault lines in a relationship. Some people also take games really, really seriously. Combine the two and it can be a recipe for disaster.
  25. It also results in rifts that can take decades to heal! I had a high school history teacher whose brother literally didn't talk to him for a couple of years because of a game of Diplomacy.
