  1. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I've had to teach myself over the years that all Bethesda (and Bethesda style, if outsourced) games have a time limit for me, and I need to walk away from them somewhere around the 20ish hour mark. They're great until then, and then this downward slide of hatred begins to develop with them.
  2. My only disappointment in this feature is that you can't just open each category of crate. I'd like to be able to open all crates except for items, because if I open all the items then I have to take the time to sell or break down 60+ items to clear my inventory back out.
  3. Non-video games

Did you happen to see Potion Explosion? A friend played it at what I'm guessing is the same convention, and she said it was really good. The pictures she posted of it looked rad, using marbles to brew potions in card board potion bottles to hold the marbles in. I've gravitated towards faster, easier games lately because it seems like on the rare occasion I can play anything, we never make it through bigger or more complicated games, so this looked intriguing.
  4. Okay, it might be a bit weird to necro a video game thread to make a book recommendation, but hear me out. I just finished Dead Boys by Gabriel Squailia. And if you ever thought, "Gee, I wish there was something else like Grim Fandango, but different", then this is it. A journey through the land of the dead by a bunch of rotting corpses hell bent on an impossible quest that might just be the imaginings of an incredibly bored and slightly crazed taxidermist who gets by mending the flesh of the dead, because not even death stops vanity. Overall I really liked it. It's charming and weird and was exactly the kind of goofy adventure I was needing right now.
  5. There is certainly precedence for duplicated names in TP though, like MIKE and BOB and Mike and Bobby. I always thought it was likely to just cause a bit of audience confusion to have a pair of characters share a pair of names. Could be something similar with Dougie.
  6. No clue about the ball, but have you watched Fire Walk With Me? I just got around to watching it last night, and it clarifies quite a few things. I'll spoiler them in case people haven't seen or want to watch FWWM soon.
  7. Haha. Well, the small town is what they always wanted, and once the network was out of the way, it's what Frost got I like TP the most when it has that very small town feel, and generally I think the idea of a murder being so shocking works best for the smaller size. But as I said in my earlier post, there's other elements of the town that just feel off if it is that small. Thankfully it's a weird place and feeling off is kind of what it does best.
  8. I don't think so. Sam (glass box kid) is Ben Rosenfield and based on the credits, I'm guessing it's Deputy Jesse Holcomb, played by James Grixoni.
  9. I grew up in a small town of about 4,000, so there are actually elements that I really identified with in Twin Peaks (like literally everyone knowing the Sheriff by name), but then the things that made it feel like a larger town felt jarring. I agree that original Twin Peaks was supposed to feel like a fading, shrinking town, they just couldn't quite nail the consistency of feel throughout it. In real life Washington logging town news, I read an article recently about falling tax revenues in small to mid sized towns in Washington, as the taxes from logging have shrank, populations have refused to approve new taxes to fill the gap, which leads to things like police stations not running 24 hours. Which watching the opening of FWWM reminded me of that when the sheriff in that town mentions that they close the police station at 5 and go home.
  10. Nerd correction to part of the conversation in the 'cast episode. Twin Peaks technically has a population of 50,000, which would mean a high school population of 3,000ish (give or take based on aging population and all that). Original Twin Peaks I think was intended to be a much smaller town, but it got revised at some point. Which creates some odd things, where portions of the show feel like a much smaller town, and portions of the show feel like something more appropriate to a town of 50K. I honestly think Season 3 is trying to correct some of the discrepancies that the change in population caused in the original show. Like the Roadhouse being packed with a bunch of young people, the way the local concert venue would be in a town that size. A police department for a town of 50,000 should have dozens of employees, and it never feels like that's the case in the slightest bit in 1 (obviously they wouldn't have that many characters, but it really just feels like there are a handful of employees). Spoilering this because it relates to the Ep 3: Another example is that The Great Northern really feels out of place if Twin Peaks is a small town in the boonies of Washington. It's far more believable that someone would build that place in a town of 50K, because it could actually support some amount of tourism, whereas a town of 5K just can't very well.
  11. I didn't pick up on the portrait of Kafka. Edited to spoiler this, because I realized what I'm referencing is from Ep 4 (relationship to Kafka work):
  12. Oh, another random thought. I was very not prepared to have Nu Truman walk into a room with a modern dispatch setup and multiple other police officers. It's like they're hiding the real police department behind the facade of Andy and Lucy. Or that they keep Andy and Lucy on out of loyalty even though they aren't strictly needed anymore.
  13. Hahaha, Twin Peaks was designed to be over analyzed, or to let it wash over you, whichever you prefer. I mean, they published a book between seasons 1 and 2 so people could continue to obsess and analyze even when the show as on a break. Obsessing about it, analyzing it, talking about it was a national past time throughout the first season. General thoughts on 4, I'm mostly on board with everything every one else has praised. Coop's desperate and enthusiastic, "Coooffeee" before drying to gulp it down was amazing. I think I only have so much in me for Baby Coop though, I'm sincerely wanting Regular Coop back on stage. Maclachlan's performances are stunning. Unless the character has a lot more going on, I think I'm fine with Cera's one appearance. I liked the scene a whole bunch, and it's a perfect example of the Lynch version of, for lack of a better word, the long joke (where something is initially mildly funny, then uncomfortable, and then becomes really funny through the sheer determination to not let go of the joke). But as good as it was, I still don't need more of it. I didn't know Miguel Ferrer had died until reading this thread. That's just another bummer. Reading DoppleCoop was nearly impossible, to tell if he was putting on a show for Cole, or if the vomiting, brush with the Black Lodge, and the birth of Baby Coop all ended up doing a whammy on him of some sort as well. Edited to add: I love the closeout of the episode is David Lynch himself telling the audience that he has no idea what is going on. It's like he's with us on this ride. Edited again to further add: @Gattman This is a contemporary piece on the reaction to the premier, even sans social media.
  14. I love the nearly completely unnecessary shoes dropping off, and then needing to put on shoes, bit that thing did.
  15. Where did you find that at? egassem is message backwards. Edited to add: Oh, I see it, way down on that TP playlist.
  16. FWIW, Blue Rose is the code word that Gordon Cole uses to identify particular cases, most likely ones that have a supernatural element to them.
  17. I've been paying attention to blue as well because of the warm up 'cast. I went looking around after that for any articles about blue and Twin Peaks, and ran across one that pointed out that blue is commonly paired with red when it does show up in the original series. In the scene where Original Coop is in the metal box place in space, when he comes back down the latter, the couch the woman is sitting on is blue, while she's in a bright red dress. So that pattern seems to be continuing.
  18. So earlier I was wondering whether or not the Dales are separate bodies, split soul/consciousness with one body, or what. 3 seems to answer that, that the Doppelgangers are entirely separate creatures from the people they replace. At least some of the time. But that does leave me confused about Leland in the original series though, as it was heavily implied there that original Leland was at times present. But maybe not? Maybe that was always just BOB in a Leland suit? The episode felt like it had a light more light hearted and funny moments overall, which I appreciate its break from the overall foreboding and heavy feeling of the opening 2 episodes. WHAT THE FUCK IS JACOBI DOING WITH THE SHOVELS?
  19. Dead Cells

This came up in chat recently, and it does look very much like something I would get into.
  20. Deadly Premonition

Deadly Premonition Board Game It seems like it could actually be cool, identify the serial killer before they kill all the potential suspects/informants who can help you identify them.
  21. Only made it through Ep 2 tonight, will have to get to 3 and 4 tomorrow. Early thoughts are the show is deadly self-serious start, which is fine for now, but I do hope it lightens up and has some fun too. I managed to ignore most of the cast leaks or talks about the show, so Matthew Lillard showing up, and immediately being arrested for murder was just fucking delightful as a surprise. I'm also now read for Scooby and the gang to show up and unmask the real BOB. Overall I enjoyed it, but do have some reservations about the tone and pacing of an entire season based on the first two episodes.
  22. You're describing many of the same core issues I had with Prometheus. I saw someone on FB raving about Covenant and saying that it completely redeemed Prometheus...which greatly pushes my credibility.
  23. General Video Game Deals Thread

MGSV is currently $8 at Humble ($7.19 if you are a monthly subscriber).
  24. Not terribly related, but this Tumblr exchange made me think of this thread.
  25. That makes me really happy. There was so much talent at Irrational that was ultimately very poorly managed, it's good to see them have a chance to shine and show just how fucking good they are.
