We finished, in co-op, both Expendabros and BroForce! I can't recommend both strongly enough, some of the most fun I've ever had in couch co-op. My only complaint with BroForce is that the difficulty really spiked hard in the final chapter, and the final chapter is a real marathon compared to all the previous ones. Most chapters took us 15-20 minutes to beat, and the last one took well over an hour. And as near as I could tell, you have to start a chapter over if you need to quit out. We damn near had to start over most of the way through because we weren't anticipating how long it would be and had something we had to go do, but barely made it.

I've honestly been waiting on it to go on a big enough sale to buy. I'd need 2 copies, and even with all the rave reviews, I'm hesitant to spend $70 on a game neither the lady or I have ever played. I was playing with controller on PC and thought it was working fine, though I had to turn down camera/aim sensitivity by like 70 percent. At default speed it was way, way to fast. So maybe check if the X1 has that setting if you ever pick it back up. And they are still patching, Update 18 is coming up soon, I think? Destiny is the other thing it reminded me of...but better. Which is weird to say about a F2P game versus the massive budget Destiny had. I barely played Destiny, but watched my daughter play a fair amount of it, and I pretty much like everything I've seen of Warframe more than Destiny so far. The gameplay is better, and the world/character/story seems to have a lot more personality to it.

Has anyone else here tried Warframe? I'm usually pretty tentative about F2P games, but the few hours we put into it this weekend really impressed me. I know I tried it a couple of years ago, in a much earlier and rougher state, and disregarded it. But it's come a long way since. Looks great, the movement feels really good, the combat can flow from gunplay, to melee to powers...not quite seemlessly, but better than lot of other games I've played. We've been looking for something to scratch the Mass Effect 3 MP itch for a couple of years now, and this might be it. A very long tail in terms of unlocking and leveling up equipment (which we don't mind in this kind of game, when it's something we want to be able to play for a year or more). It's actually got a story/progression route now that seems interesting enough (also seems pretty typically sci-fi tropey: "You're a member of a lost, technically superior race who has awaken from a long slumber just in time to save the universe!"). But the evil people seem to be humans who've managed to genetically modify and clone the entire race to a disastrous brink of extinction, so that's neat.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG I've never played all of Day of the Tentacle (just messed around with the opening area), so this is the most exciting of these remakes for me.

I'm assuming this must have been the Macho Man mod that came up:

This cracked me up more than it normally would have because it was posted by a retired priest I know.

What? 99% Invisible is one of my favs because the episodes are consistently short and tightly edited/reported.

I finished Hot Tin Roof: The Cat Who Wore a Fedora over the weekend. It's pretty good, one of those nice weekend afternoon type games. The puzzles generally weren't too hard, and the devs did a great job of executing a noir type mystery, complete with the background of a crime taking place within and related too more complex social themes (not something I expected from it). It does go on a bit too long, probably took me 10ish hours to play, and I would have preferred it be a bit shorter, particularly on the need to backtrack a few times through large areas because I had picked up a new tool that would let me open some previously locked doors.

I decided to take another run at Wasteland 2 since the Director's Cut came out. You have to start over, it's a new install of the game and old saves are not compatible with the new version. It's supposed to have had a graphics upgrade, but I haven't fired them up side by side to check. It looks the same based on my memory. I'm really not seeing a big difference so far. Combat encounters are supposed to have been rebalanced across the board, but going through the first few hours I haven't seen any differences yet. Those might change deeper into the game, I'm only about halfway through Highpool (did the Ag Center in my original playthrough so wanted to try the other route). Other changes: Quirks - These are new options you have to add to a character during creation, each of them has a positive and negative effect. I don't like these so far. I made two different parties with about a half dozen different quirks between them. There's one quirk that's god tier, a couple that are okay on very specific builds, and a bunch that are complete shit. There's two that lower movement speed. Since movement speed is tied to AP in combat, this is just functionally an AP reduction. And it locks you out of any equipment that further lowers movement speed (heavy weapons and heavy armor). There's one that gives you 5 skill points and 1 attribute point, but you can't use trinkets. Trinkets can be worth up to 28 skill points! The tradeoffs aren't interesting, the negative trumps the positive in almost every case. Perks - Generally positive addition, every 4 levels you get a perk, most of which are unlocked through leveling up skills. Gives some more leeway for players to design a unique character and adds some more theorycrafting options, as some of the non-combat skills have perks that can help in combat, so there's a bit more reason to put some additional thought into which skills are on which characters. I'm building an explosives only character, which I think should be more feasible thanks to some of the perks. Changed loot drops and locations - Haven't noticed anything yet New voiceovers - Generally good, there's a bunch more voicework and it adds more personality to a lot of characters. The only bad is that there sometimes a jarring difference between the original voicework and new, as sometimes you can hear the difference when they are played back to back (pretty sure at least one character has two different actors now). Overall though I'm enjoying starting this again. I liked my original playthrough, I just burned out at a point and never went back. We'll see what happens this time as I progress.

I can't separate nostalgia from quality in regards to the original poster, but if you ask me to imagine a Star Wars poster, what pops into my head is the chessily wonderful one of Luke, barechested, holding a lightsaber above his head. It channels all the pulp adventure artwork of the golden age of science fiction, which I ultimately think is a much better fit than the portrait compilations that the posters became. Edited to add: And it subverts its influences as well. Leia is below him, but rather than clutching at him like a damsel, she's got a blaster and is ready for a fight.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Bjorn replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I thought Sony tried that with one of their TV lines years ago... Checked, and they did! I don't think it lasted very long, and it was a PS2 after PS3 was already out, so...who knows what they were thinking? -
Today is some of the most fun I've had in couch co-op in forever. BroForce came out of Early Access, which finally got us to try the free version, Expendabros, which immediately convinced us to buy BroForce. They are both a fucking hoot. Like, holy shit good, laughing, screaming, shouting for hours on end. They're 2D run and gun games with retro/pixel graphics themed around bro action movies. Fast, short levels where you die a lot, but usually in entertaining ways. Cascading, chaotic explosion chains which end up throwing you or your partner into bottomless pits. Dozens of wonderful and ridiculous characters. I don't think I would find single player nearly as engaging, but if you've got someone to play it with, this is the easiest recommendation I've been able to make ever (especially since it has such a fleshed out free version to try first).

Jesus, I had never thought of hats as the credit default swaps of game economies. -
The Little Inferno people have a new game out called Human Resources Machine in which you have to program office workers to be efficient like machines, crushing their humanity and making them perfect corporate citizens. I am intrigued!

The Royals are once again making dramatic waves, and I haven't been able to watch a single post season game so far. We turned off our satellite this summer (never watched it), and I keep forgetting to go somewhere to watch a game.
