  1. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

Ireland Opens First ‘Don’t Fucking Mention Christmas’ Zone In Dublin
  2. I plug away at a classic JRPG on my phone in the evenings when I'm in those moods. Currently on Dragon Quest 3.
  3. I'm surprised by that! And it's good to know. I've shown it to a few people over the last decade, and rarely got a really positive reaction from anyone who was a first time viewer.

Cibele sounds fascinating, I hadn't heard of it, so thanks for mentioning it! Some context here for anyone else who didn't know it existed.
  5. Yeah, I rewatch it occasionally because it's incredibly fun, even though I could nit-pick it to death if I wanted to. It's a movie I just decided I could ignore all it's problems and enjoy anyways. Also! People should go back and watch Heavy Metal and see how many similarities there are between the first story in it and the Fifth Element (for good reason, Besson was a fan of some of the artists who worked on both Heavy Metal the magazine and movie and I'm pretty sure at least one of those guys worked on the Fifth Element). Speaking of overrated classics, I have an incredibly strong nostalgic affection for Heavy Metal, but I do not think it holds up well for people watching it for the first time now.
  6. Backlog Busters

It depends on where you want to consider it "done". I don't want to spoil too much, but there are additional levels past what you can see right now, and some of them take multiple successful runs in order to unlock (I think it's something like 16 successful runs to unlock the final level). I think, at a minimum, you're probably looking at at least 30 hours before you'll even be able to get there, and probably longer. I actually never accomplished everything I wanted to do in the original, as it finally just got to the point where I was frustrated with having a 1-2 hour run end in death without having unlocked the item I was going for. If that sounds like a slog you won't enjoy, I wouldn't blame you at all for shelving BoI and calling it quits. But if that's what you do, I would suggest picking up Rebirth at some point and giving it a try. The biggest run killer tends to be not getting enough damage upgrades. The faster you can kill things, the fewer hits you'll take. There aren't many "bad" items, but there's a lot of average/meh items that don't do a bunch to really help you in the lower levels. There are a lot of different items to unlock as well, by playing with different characters or doing specific things, and some of those items are the best in the game, so you overall get more and more options the longer you play.
  7. Backlog Busters

I think I'd have problems going back to the original after Rebirth, movement is so much better in Rebirth. The game does tend to be super lucky based though, some item combinations make it a breeze (to the point of being boring at times), while others rely entirely on skill. That said, I put over a hundred hours into both the Original and Rebirth, so obviously their shortcomings don't bother me that much.
  8. Backlog Busters

Are you plaing BoI Original or Rebirth?
  9. I loved it in Mystery Inc where Scrappy gets mentioned once, Fred solemnly says that they had all agreed never to speak of him again. Also, fuck the patriarchy AND capitalism. Scooby Doo was a bunch of stoner socialists before it was cool.
  10. Recently completed video games

Not to discourage your continued attack on your backlog, but the other ships were some of the most fun I had with that game, starting with different loadouts and seeing what I liked most.
  11. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Edmund's just getting beat the fuck up over this. Sounds like it was a bug that was actually blocking some of the content/unlocks (and there are known bugs with unlocks, as a bunch of stuff got unlocked when it shouldn't have). But it also sounds like there are still secrets to find, and they've been quiet about the nature of the bugs to protect the secrets that are left.
  12. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Jesus Christ, gamers are the biggest whiny, privileged babies on the fucking planet. Reddit is going batshit over how Edmund is a lying, disrespectful piece of shit who hates his fans and abuses them. Guess what fuckos, if you were my fans, I'd fucking hate your asses too. Apparently the patch also changed the Box of Friends to a 4 room charge, which is way the fuck more reasonable.
  13. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I did Lilith on Greed tonight, and holy shit, that's insane. I didn't realize that one of her starting items actually adds familiars for her (Brimstone, Succubus, Leech, and maybe another one?) as she takes damage. I got a blood machine, and couldn't figure out why over the course of several minutes I added multiple new followers, so I looked it up. I must have had 80+ familiars on screen at one time, as I managed to pick up Glitch, Relic, Bag of Bombs, the guy who's chained to you, Meat Boy and the one who leaves Creep. The Relic and Bag of Bombs also multiplied and had a chance to drop their items each wave. Box of Friends might be the most ridiculous item in the game now Were you already at 109 on the machine? It happened to me again tonight in that Lilith run, and so I looked, and turns out that 109 is where it maxes out.
  14. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I've made it to Greed twice with 80+ coins, the first time the machine took like almost all of them....the second time it took 1.
  15. Oh man, he starts ranting about the gays and the trans and the constitution and how Muslims love pedophiles on the very next question.
  16. It's very similar to having two monitors side by side, and I even debated on buying two cheaper 21" screens (which would have been the same price and more screen real estate), but this one has way more inputs than cheapo screens and generally better performance/reviews. I've used multiple monitors off and on over the years, and for whatever reason I almost always end up liking a large, single screen better. It might just be my own psychology, but somehow I never get as much use out of a second screen as I think I will. That said, if I can repair my old Ultrasharp, I cam going to switch it to a vertical orientation and try it as a second monitor. I've got a few things that I tend to have open throughout the day that I need to look at, without interacting a lot, and one of the windows can use as much vertical space as it can get.
  17. The Scooby Doo theme song is literally the ringer on my phone right now, and Velma saying "Jinkies!" is my text notification. Scooby Doo is awesome, yo.
  18. Life

So my daughter got married on Saturday. They basically eloped, I guess you'd say. Just had a quick thing with 2 witnesses. Her boyfriend is in the military, and the driving reason to do it was for benefits. The lady and I are the only people they've told, nobody in his family at all, and not planning on saying anything to the rest of our family. It's weird. She's an adult and can do what she wants. It makes financial sense to do it. The lady and I have never bothered to get married, so we're not ones to stand on tradition. It would have been difficult or impossible for some of us to get to Seattle on short notice. But still, it feels really weird to know she went off and got married and none of us were there to be with her.
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

Spotify has the worst ads. The worst. Their inability to sell ads, given the nature of their service, is fucking mind-boggling.
  20. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The new Challenges certainly live up to their name. I think there are a few of these I may well never beat. I can't get past Cellar 2 on Speed. I thought that the Guardian was a really neat twist, right up until I auto-died walking into a new room and there was nothing I could do about it. Dampens my enthusiasm for throwing myself back at it to lose that quickly and that randomly. The one where you take damage if you miss is probably doable, but I'll need to luck into a couple of items early on.
  21. Scooby Doo is my favorite cartoon, and better than every other cartoon I've ever watched. Super good! I'm going with bad conditions, too dark of a tv or monitor, because the last time I watched Alien (a few years ago), I was impressed by how incredibly well I thought the sets and design held up.
  22. So I got up to work this morning, and discovered that my trusty Dell Ultrasharp monitor that's been my workhorse for almost a decade was dead. Initial troubleshooting leads me to believe that the internal power supply has failed. I hope so, the thing still delivered a better picture than the lady's much newer 27" monitor. I've ordered a used power supply board (all that's available), but it's going to take a few days to get here, so I went out and bought one of the ultrawide monitors to try, 29" with 2560x1080 resolution. After an afternoon of working with it, I think I could really dig this and see it hard to go back to a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor. The extra width is much more natural for splitting two windows side by side and have plenty of space for both. My 16:10 Dell never really felt right when I would do that. I wish I could have afforded the 34" version, but it was more than twice as expensive. That seems like it would be about the perfect size for my desk and my working needs.
  23. I super love Citizen Kane, but I'm also a sucker for things related to the history of journalism and Orson Welles.
  24. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The infinite store refilling item is pretty ridiculous (greed mode starts with it, but you can also get it in a regular run). If you end up with a combo that can endlessly generate money, you can basically buy out all the store items and stock up on a bunch of other things. Oh, and PSA! Do NOT use the Card Against Humanity in the big room of Greed Mode. It made the button to start the waves disappear I actually got lucky and refreshed the store several times with the donation box and got a Forget Me Not to show up, but I blew enough money on the refreshes that I was too underpowered to finish the run.
