  1. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

It could be 'Dark Souls II (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))'
  2. XCOM Enemy Unknown

Was it the Exalt mission that killed a bunch of your guys the one with the transmitter you had to defend on a patio in front of a fast food restaurant? That was probably the most open map I've seen, plus several inconveniently located cars that could blow up nicely. I actually had to use my agent a lot on that one. She ended up getting the achievement for 3 or more kills on a covert mission. I actually quit using supports last night and am just going full Rambo on every mission. 2 snipers, 2 Assaults, 1 Heavy and 1 sniper Mech. The heavy and mech and use explosives to destroy cover, so the snipers can obliterate the enemy. Then the Assaults mop up. Both assaults have the perk where you get a free shot if you take one within 4 squares of an enemy, and both can cloak. So they can often each kill two enemies per round, one sniper has In the Zone and the other Double Tap, so they can both kill 2+ enemies per round.
  3. Feminism

After those endorsements, I had to watch it. "This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube's policy on nudity and sexual content."
  4. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

But they still haven't set an actual date for it, which is mildly concerning. If it's ultimately just a week or two, I'll probably wait, but if they announce a date and it's more than that, I'll probably just buy on console first.
  5. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I don't mind the PS3 controller, played plenty of things on it. Though I would likely get the 360 version, as I've got way more friends on there. In other DS2 news, there's a themed bar/cafe for a couple of months to promote it's release in Japan. I wish we got nice things in the US. I would cosplay to go to a bar and get served a drink by Anastacia.
  6. Don't Starve

I'd actually avoid looking up too much about the game, as I think the surprises it throws at you are part of the fun, and the first introduction to a lot of stuff can be easily ruined. I spoiled a few things that I wish I didn't know. Looking at the mods are also worthwhile. Some of them make it too easy, but I use some that I think just save time. I use the minimap, display food values and larger inventory/chest size. Some non-spoiler tips: Burn down a small forest early on. You only get one charcoal per tree, but it stacks to 40 (wood is 20), only takes one hit to knock it down (so you save on your axe durability if flint is scarce) and can save your wood for just starting fires and other crafting. Later on there are better fuel sources, but it's handy early. You can burn whole stacks of some items to make stacks of ash. Ash is used for your healing potion, and this is soooo much faster than burning individual things you find in the world. You can "pre-build" structures. I thought initially when you prototyped something next to a science station, that you had to place it somewhere nearby. But if you cancel placing it, it consumes the resources and is then pre-built and ready to place in your crafting tree. This makes laying out your base easier, or prepping to build a backup base much faster. It's also a way to "store" resources without using up inventory slots. If you're full, you can pre-build some useful structures that you know you'll want in the future (farms, drying racks, camp fires, etc) and keep exploring/gathering. You can only have one of each item prebuilt at a time. Building a base within an easy walk of Beefalo is useful, for a variety of reasons.
  7. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Anyone else debating on buying both the console and PC versions? I am, as I ultimately want it on PC, but I really, really don't want to have to wait a few weeks for the PC version to come out.
  8. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Gotta admit, I chuckled at that elmuerte. Everyone has to learn that little oddity at some point.
  9. Return of the Steam Box!

Steam currently says there are 288 games that work on Linux, and 2467 total games in their database. At a glance, all but a handful are from indie devs.
  10. XCOM Enemy Unknown

That sucks! Can you build Shivs? I saved one CI playthrough before the expansion by having a couple of shivs escort my baby soldiers through some missions until they were leveled up a little.
  11. You can actually turn the crediting thing into another part of the joke. You can explain that knowing the name of an author might let the reader make assumptions about their gender, nationality, religion, sexual orientation and whether or not they preferred the 6th or 8th Doctor. Even suspecting these details will leave some readers incapable of objectively reading the objective review, and so you attempt to provide some separation to let people read the reviews in the context that they were intended. Oh, and the whole reason I asked about if you wanted people to know that you did this was whether or not you preferred to try and remain completely faceless and anonymous as part of the joke.
  12. Don't Starve

I've seen it played on a PS4, and the controls actually looked pretty nice. You get multiple context sensitive options whenever you move close to something. I don't know if they work the same way on PC, I use M/K. However, there's an easier way! There are a few hotkeys that you can hold down to automate an activity. Hold down spacebar, and you will automatically gather or use the tool in your hand. So with an axe in your hand, you will cut down a tree, pick up the wood, pick up the pinecone, then move to the next tree and start cutting. If you are near several grass/saplings/flowers, you will gather them. If you have a bug net in your hand, you will chase the butterfly until you catch it. You can hold down the F key to automatically fight. You will just keep swinging your weapon at the nearest enemy. It makes harvesting sooooo much faster. I had probably played for 20 days before I realized either of these things. As far as uncovering the map goes, I made it to day 99 once, and had not fully explored the map. But I had some pretty long stretches in there building a base camp and and trying not to freeze to death in winter. I'm curious if your cat acts the same way. Our third cat does not care at all. He's the oldest one though, the other two are much younger, so perhaps they are more easily excited.
  13. XCOM Enemy Unknown

I prioritized capturing a Muton early, was willing to sacrifice a squaddie to get it done. Got one on the subway train in China, so that I could get the research credit for Plasma weapons. Which was a great idea, except that I haven't had enough money to actually outfit everyone with Plasma weapons and build everything else. I've sold so much on the Gray Market, like almost everything I get except for weapon fragments and trying to sell too much Elerium. Even sold some Power Sources and Flight Computers, delaying the projects that need those. I'm really loving my random tree guys. They almost make more sense to me than the standard trees. These guys aren't regular soldiers. They are world's elite Black Ops squad. It makes some sense that each one would have custom training, not just a cookie cutter set of skills. And they are coming from armed forces all over the world, it's not like every country is going to train their Assault exactly the same. Other than their Smoke grenades, I feel like the supports are struggling the most to find a role in a squad. But none of the ones I've trained have ended up drawing skills that synergize very well. I haven't deployed my one mech yet, the money bottleneck has kept me from being able to upgrade his weapon, chassis and Foundry options. But I converted my first Colonel sniper, so as a mech he's got a 118 natural aim, and a 128 aim if he hasn't moved. As soon as I hit the next council payment, he's getting sent out into the fray.
  14. XCOM Enemy Unknown

That was the very first Exalt clue I got after being introduced to Exalt. I was expecting them all to be weird after that, but they were just normal. I started training another support up just to have more Smoke grenades. I skipped the extra ones on my first support, and then a couple of months into the game decided that was a bad idea. My second Sniper picked up Sentinel (2 overwatch shots) at Major. That's just almost not fair. I'm also getting a lot more aggressive, playing more like I would on normal.
  15. So no one seemed to pick up that this was born out of the IT forums. Are you hoping the guys talk about it on the podcast, or would you rather they avoid it and not publicize that it's one of their listeners who put it together?
  16. Return of the Steam Box!

Yep, and they've made it a point to get as many of their own titles as possible working on Mac and Linux, nothing has shown that they would want to restrict what OS can run their own software.
  17. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I think you can do that and still be a good Ninja.
  18. Yeah, I was not a Prometheus fan. There was a lot of interesting stuff going on in that movie, but it ended up feeling like a bit of a directionless mess to me. There was this Kotaku article from October with some leaked details, like that there would be combat and other enemies, though the sole Alien would be the focus. And other previews today discussed that there was obviously a crafting system, though no one got to see it in action. That article had a lot of information that is now months and months old, so it may have changed, but a lot of the rest of it turned out to be very accurate.
  19. The threat of Big Dog

That is a crying shame that the Twitter account is suspended. But that story is a few years old now, so not surprising.
  20. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

    Have fun storming the castle!
  21. Return of the Steam Box!

If I ultimately end up using a very low cost streaming machine, I think I will go with either a used or budget laptop with HDMI out. As cheap as any dedicated device will be, and can be a spare laptop if you need one. If SteamOS plays nice with Chromebooks, one of the passively cooled CBs would be perfect. Thin, easy to hide and no sound.
  22. I didn't really know a lot about The Creative Assembly. What a strange history of games at that company. Mostly Total War, with a couple of branchoffs that don't sound like they panned out very well. But the TW series has been pretty solid for a decade.
  23. Don't Starve

It was awesome and the funniest thing I've seen all week. She didn't appreciate the humor until after it was done, she couldn't figure out why me and our kid were laughing so hard. Though, being Don't Starve, it did have a quietly sad moment afterwards. It was still night, so once the dogs were dead the bunnies all curled up and went to sleep. You can only catch them live with traps, so she had to go around and kill each of the sleeping bunnies so they wouldn't get away in the morning and she would at least have saved some of the meat. It's one thing to kill them in your inventory, but it's somehow different to intentionally equip an axe and click on each of the adorable sleeping puff-balls to murder them. Oh, and we've had to start locking 2 of our cats into other rooms when playing. The sound and movement of the birds in the game send them into a frenzy and they try to attack the screen. I've never seen them react to a game like that before. Good job Klei, you've apparently created the most accurate bird simulation as far as cats are concerned.
