Rock Band is probably one of the best examples of game play forcing you to focus on the content in a different way. I think a lot of people discovered some music that they had previously written off thanks to it.

Did you play DeS? You lost HALF of your health when in hollow/soul form. It's one of the changes they made in DaS that minimized the value of going human. In 2, if you die a bunch, your max health will steadily degrade. It's an interesting compromise between the two previous games.

The video version of Idle Thumbs robot news was incredible.

I really don't get tired of watching people die in Spelunky. That one was pretty terrific elmuerte.

I wonder if they'll include mod support.

IT HAS BEGUN! Downloading, not going to be able to play until tonight. The email came from Humble, and the server crashed on me twice redeeming it, so there may be some delays in getting all the emails out.

What was the original blog post? It's certainly a fascinating idea. Though the example of the Pride and Prejudice game is a bit weird to me. I would have to see it in action to understand what he means.

Allan Quartermain saves two sacrificial virgins and escapes the lost city of gold only moments before it's destroyed! Little does he know that the Semen God does not let go of its prizes so easily...

So this is on the weekly Steam sale. I'm tempted, as I love the aesthetic. Voodoo Vince was also one of my favorite original Xbox games. No connection other than theme, but it brought a smile to me as I remembered VV. Vince had some neat mechanics involving self harm, since you were a voodoo doll, causing injury to yourself to attack enemies. Sounds like with the variety of deities and items, they've got the potential for some interesting mechanics going on.

I ended up watching a few videos of it tonight, I only read the description and looked at screenshots earlier. It was less captivating to me in video form. Almost too fast and chaotic. Plus they haven't added in local coop yet, which would be a big attraction for me.

Reading interviews with Edmund, he seemed to cognizant of how WotL skewed the game towards being easier, particularly with the frequency one could find flight items. One of the joys of a BoI playthrough is discovering oddball combinations that somehow manage to work well together. But with sooooo many items available, it is an interesting question about whether that alone will mean that you hardly ever see similar combinations.

That thought occurred to me moments after posting. But I don't think I have the heart to give a DF game a 5, even jokingly.

You review it objectively, obviously: Broken Age Part 1 Review: This is half a game. The other half will be released at a later date.

Soooo, this is making the rounds over the last couple of days. Posting it here because of a couple of oddities in it. The primary graphic they've been using has been Lot escaping Sodom as his wife is turned to a pillar of salt. What happens shortly thereafter is an incestual relationship between Lot and his daughters (while the Bible describes it as being initiated by the daughters, there are lots of dissenting interpretations that see it as an abusive father and rape by Lot). And they make sure to point out in the sales pitch: This is one of the most disturbing and anti-female passages in the entire Bible. It seems a bit odd to put it front and center in your Kickstarter campaign for your Bible game.

I finally gave up on getting everything. I just couldn't reach The Chest. Beating the Cathedral multiple times was just too grueling for me, so I finally walked away from it. But Daily Challenges, hell yeah! Also local co-op makes me drool.

Big Rebirth update! well, mostly just acknowledging that it's still in production and coming eventually.
-
Me too, I've managed to reach this point knowing almost nothing about the game. I just haven't bothered to read the updates and decided to not get into any of the documentary videos until after it was released. I figure I ought to play Act 1 now though, as the chance to be spoilered will increase dramatically with it out.

Idle Thumbs 140: The Customer's Always An Asshole
Bjorn replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Or make a mod that replaces all the zombies with models based on Zed from Men in Black. It suddenly becomes a sci-story in the MiB universe where experimenting with alien technology resulted in Zed being cloned billions of times, overrunning the world. The beginning of this apocalypse happens in MiB3, which is why Zed isn't in it. Edited to add: Oh god, I just watched the run guest starring Sean. That was priceless, and one of the most entertaining Spelunky runs I've ever watched. "I blame myself." -
I actually misread the context of that quote. Nevermind!

Yeah, unlike Tengen, which did get blasted by Nintendo. And the Tengen Tetris game was incredible, one of the best versions of Tetris ever made. I actually had one of the few copies of it, and didn't find out it was a rare collectible until years after I had sold off my NES.

Is it that in GH, you're observing and not interacting with other people, whereas in some IF, it's driven by actual interactions.

Oddly enough, the reported terribleness of the story/writing is actually making me want to play this. I enjoy the occasional train wreck. Unfortunately it's refusing to run, completely crashes my computer about 10 seconds after starting. Tried a few things, but then gave up, as I have other games that won't take as much work.

And now I'm going to hear it as Day Zed in my head every time I see it. -
I feel like I need Ironman on. Without it, I would spend way too much time reloading. I just couldn't let a bad turn go.

I remember seeing their games for sale and rent, they always stuck out because the boxes and cartridges didn't look right.
