I was just listening to the Crate and Crowbar podcast, and Tom Francis (Gunpoint designer) said he always renames troopers off people he's Twitter friends with. He had to chop the limbs off of Steve Gaynor to turn him into a mec trooper and he felt bad about it.

Because no one in PC gaming has desired multiple screens for the last 15 years.... The only limiting factor was cost, most people I know seriously into PC gaming either want or have a 2+ monitor setup. And I think we will see regular use of the XO and PS4's second screen options on tablets/phones. A lot of gamers are already doing this without official support, by keeping a guide, map or charts from a website open on their phone/tablet while playing. Lately I've done it for Don't Starve food values. And for PC gaming with custom controls, the LCD screen wouldn't have even been the most valuable part. You could have set it up to operate as a map scroller, zoom tool, inventory flipper, anything that a touch swipe would have been good for. If the goal is to make a strategy game playable with a controller, those are instant access options you need on a device.

This is a great chance to get DP if someone doesn't know if it will be a game they enjoy. Unfortunately I tend to think that IG bundles are mostly crap with one good game in them (maybe one good game, if that).

That's fantastic. That just sent me through all the thumbs wikipages looking for easter eggs. The IT entry and Vanaman both have one. No entry for Breckon. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary on Rodkin's page. Lord Remo's is the best though.

Joystiq has an article up on the state of GFWL powered games. Dark Souls is listed as: "Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (Exploring options, but no set plans yet.)" I'll take that as a good sign for now, as a bunch of devs/pubs did respond that they simply aren't going to bother updating their games.

I used to go to the library every single week. I haven't done that in years. Internet, phone, video games, and netflix take up all the time that I used to use just go to the library and browse through interesting shit.

I also share a love of conspiracy theories, alien theories, ancient earth theories and the paranormal, even though I don't actually believe in any of it. It's fun! I used to have a job that required that I regularly work until 2 a.m. The only thing I miss about it is the convenience of listening to Coast to Coast AM. I've tried listening to the podcast in the years since, but there's something that makes that show work when it's the middle of the night, it's dark, you're alone, often driving. It's not the same in a brightly lit office in the middle of the day with my wife across the room from me. I suppose there is some good symbolism there about how the topics of that show rarely hold up to the light of day. Dovetailing on your last point, every single business, organization or government office I have spent significant time around has a level of dysfunction and disorganization that boggles my mind. It often amazes me that anything ever gets done, anywhere.

I had very nearly the same reaction to DLC Quest. It was an entertaining way to blow an afternoon, but most of the "Neat!" factor wore off after about 5 minutes. And yet I finished both quests and got most of the achievements.

That really looked like the penguin set it off.

OMG, I think we have the same microwave. Definitely a Panasonic with the variable inverter. I was pissed when our old one died, as I hate having to replace appliances. But I didn't realize how shitty our old microwave was until we got this one. I'm glad the old one's gone now. I fully concur with your MOTY.

To be fair, most nice microwaves now come with a Tegra quad-core CPU and Tetris preinstalled. And Tetris is GOTY material every year.

When I fell, it was usually off a cliff. One of my favorite things to see in DaS was a ghost walk/roll/run off an edge to their death. Cracked me up everytime. Hopefully when it happened to me, someone else was there to get a smile out of it as well.

After playing Spelunky for awhile tonight, I decided to "relax" and goof off starting an Impossible game. And I don't ever see me trying to seriously make an Impossible run. I was lucky if a squad of 4 rookies killed one or two Sectoids in a single round. First mission, lost 3 with one gravely wounded. Second mission, wiped. Third mission, wiped. After that I just skipped everything to fail and see the stat screen. I'm sure it's doable if you have a scout always Hunkered Down and everyone else on Overwatch, but that seems like it would get pretty boring.

Congrats Spork! I had taken some time away from Spelunky, and was a bit rusty tonight. But after a few warmups, I had a couple of good runs deep into the Ice Caverns with good equipment. Both times got instakilled due to not being patient enough. I think I'm really close to at least being able to beat Olmec. On one of those runs, I had the jetpack, 33 bombs, 7 health, the Kapala and a bunch of other stuff. I thought for sure I had it in the bag that time.

Finally got around to watching that solo eggplant run tonight. You couldn't have convinced me a couple of years ago that I would watch a movie length Lets Play of a platformer and be highly entertained. That run is a thing of beauty.

"Jonah: A Fisherman's Tale" would have a nice meta joke built into it.

In home streaming is in the wild with a limited number of beta participants. Yah! Hopefully this moves like previous Valve betas, and new invites will be sent on a regular basis.

Gunpoint had a lot of flash-in-the-pan attention when it was released, but it does seem to have been overshadowed by a bunch of other games. It achieved something I feel like few games do. It was the perfect length. It left me wanting more, but feeling satisfied with what I had. There are a lot of great games that I have ended up not liking because they just wouldn't end. One thing for me this year has been my steady shift away from AAA games, in part because of length. I have not finished either TLoU or BI. Both of those games were good, but mechanically I got bored about 10 hours in on each of them and started playing something else.

Steve, WHY DIDNT GONE HOME HAVE CATS?!!

To be fair, fucking Nintendo of America. As far as I know, the vast majority (or even all) of the censorship that Nintendo is known for has come from NoA. The Japanese publishing division doesn't appear to care much at all.

That is not a waste of your free time, it's a glorious exercise in entertaining your fellow thumbs! That also reminded me of Date Jesus. I had no idea that guy was still updating his site. You'd think that by now Jesus would have found someone. There's a weird mechanic where once the Faith stat is high enough, every single thing you do continues to raise someone's faith, no matter what.

Huh, that's a massive change, but it is also one that feels like it fits thematically with the Souls games. Other possible solutions would be to get a unique soul for NPCs that you can still have limited interaction with.

I'm a bit disappointed in the loss of the touchscreen. I certainly felt like there were some interesting opportunities there.

Spate features an alcoholic trying to come to terms with personal trauma. The amount you drink has opposing effects on the world. You feel (become) more skilled, but the world becomes more difficult to traverse.

Gun Home Finally, someone made it a real game.
