  1. Cartoons!

Well, that will forever be what Cars 3 is in my head, no need to ever watch it now.
  2. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

FWIW, there's a bunch of us in the Dark Souls thread who would be happy to give you advice and non-spoilery guidance to get you further along in DS1. It doesn't sound like you were that deep into it yet. That boss you hit is probably one of the most difficult fights in the game. It comes early when you aren't leveled up yet, and it's such a confined area that you have very limited time to actually learn what to do with it. He's one of those bosses who is really easy to cheese once you know what to do though.
  3. It's a really poorly written/edited pitch as well. If you're asking for $600,000, then your pitch shouldn't have things like this: Clearly some of this is from a non-Native speaker writing or helping to write this pitch. But given the amount of money and the size of the team, the pitch feels lazy and rushed to have so many errors or poorly worded sentences in it. I didn't even highlight any of the bad sentences that jumped out at me. This stuff was all super distracting to me as I was trying to read it yesterday.
  4. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

My brother-in-law is Australian, he will occasionally just rattle off some gibberish, and then convince people that it's really Australian slang for something. Even after knowing him for most of a decade, I cannot tell when he's being serious and when he's pulling my leg.

I feel like my Dovahkiin just said fuck it, and left to live on a mountain somewhere. He had reached the point of being a functional god. He was unkillable, and could bring elder dragons crashing out of the sky just by looking at them funny. He was the single most dangerous being in the entire land. And still, all these ignorant humans treated him like he was just some commoner, someone to fetch them milk because they couldn't be bothered. That he could be talked down to, mocked, ordered around, and generally spoken to as though any one of these worms might be his equal. So he did the only heroic thing he could, he left. Because the other option was to get into a race with the dragons to see who could burn this miserable world down first.
  6. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

That makes sense. I watch the ends of a lot of these runs (the deaths amuse me), and it seemed like that had happened a few times lately.
  7. WTF?! Somehow I'm guessing that guy expected more than 2600 views after the first few weeks that video had been up. I think I'll take a break from the PS3 version until the PC version comes up. Might still doing a bit of PvP, but no major challenges or item hunting. I kind of want to go for no bonfire/death runs, and want to dedicate the time to those on the platform that I'll play more on.
  8. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Clearly it bugged me more than other people, which is fine. I feel like it could have been handled better and with less time devoted to it, and still succeeded in "showing, not telling." It also ruins the introduction of
  9. Flow

Even games with a brutal difficulty curve (Spelunky, the Souls games, etc) still tap into the idea of flow for me, it's just not as accessible as most games. It's so much more satisfying for those games when you hit a skill level that you are capable of maintaining a solid run without dying.

I got to the Flagship on Normal with my old standard the Mantis B last night. I have to say that the Teleporter style can be a lot more challenging this time around in the last couple of sectors. Enemies having a Cloning Bay requires a bit of a different strategy than a MedBay if you don't have the firepower to punch through and knock it out. Several fights drug out longer than necessary until I picked up a Hacking System late in the run. Had a gloriously tense Sector 7 when my ship was reduced to 2 hull points and it took me several jumps and flawless battles until I found a store to repair. I still failed on the Flagship. I had not realized what hacking a Medbay did! It reverses the healing and hurts anyone in the room, and since the doors are sealed, they can't escape. The Flagship hacked my Medbay, and not realizing that, I sent 3 of my boarders in to heal after bringing them back to the ship, the Flagship turned on its hack, and they promptly died. I also foolishly lost a crew member because he was in the same room as a Lanius, which I had been doing a good job of avoiding until I had to use my systems people as boarders in the end. When I got to Phase 2, I just didn't have enough boarders/firepower to knock out systems fast enough to keep it from carving my ship into pieces. I also discovered you can destroy a hacking probe by hacking the hacking system. Not quite sure on the mechanics, but it seemed like I needed to hack it while it was active to destroy it, as it wasn't destroyed just by me turning on the hack. I continue to be super impressed at just how well everything feels like it fits in the expansion.
  11. Game of Thrones (TV show)

I think there's a difference between keeping an actor involved/happy, and what they chose to do with Season 3 and Theon though.
  12. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I'd say you won the game...the game of life!
  13. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Any particular reason you didn't use a bomb? There have been a couple of your deaths to shopkeepers where you had plenty of bombs, but chose a riskier method to deal with them. I've never seen someone functionally killed by a mouse in Spelunky before. Fucking everything can kill you in Spelunky.
  14. Spelunky!

Did you try blowing up the co-worker's desk?
  15. FTL

YOU CAN PAUSE!? Of course I do. My problem has just been not having the firepower or defenses once the sector 4 enemies start showing up with level 2 shields and more weapons.
  16. It's really hard to describe what makes some of those shows so special without feeling like you're pushing into spoiler territory, or giving the wrong impression (like saying Breaking Bad is about a high school chemistry teacher who starts making meth is technically accurate, but also fails to convey what makes that compelling). So if you're trying to tell someone they should watch it, you end up defaulting to general praise.
  17. Game of Thrones (TV show)

I pretty much agree with both of you. I'm still enjoying it, but having just finished Season 3, it left a lot to be desired. I'm glad I was watching it 2 or 3 episodes at a shot, as I think just one episode at a time would have left me feeling like it was just treading water even more than it was. There was one specific storyline in Season 3 that damn near turned me off the whole thing though (Theon's story). The people in charge of the show do know how the series ends, Martin has outlined all of the major plot points and arcs for major characters, so that in the event of his death or if the show is ready to finish before the novels are, they can finish it. GRRM could always change his mind, but as it stands now, the show writers aren't just guessing.

A strategy I really want to try for the fun of it is a reverse boarding party. Mind Control to turn enemy, teleport to bring them over to my ship to a room vented to space, and upgraded doors to keep them there until they die. Not the most efficient strategy, but it turns FTL into a space horror simulator, only you are playing the villain/monster. This amuses me.

Flak cannons are amazing. I paired one with the triple shot laser, and that resulted in the best run I had (still lost). It's overshadowed by the new systems/weapons, but one of the biggest changes I love is being able to man doors and sensors. That has been a life saver a couple of times if I hadn't upgraded either system. Like when fires or boarders were on the ship and I could quickly rush someone to the door room to seal off the ship. It feels very natural too, like you can imagine the Captain ordering the Chief Engineer to seal the bulkheads. I also used manned sensors to get a peak at enemy locations before sending over boarders.
  20. FTL

I'm really struggling to get past Sector 4 in Normal when the difficulty starts ramping up. Not sure if I'm just super out of practice, have forgotten good early game strategies, or if the overall balance has shifted. I think I'm just not spending enough on upgrading my existing ship abilities. All the new shiny toys and the double inventory in some stores is causing me to spread my scrap to thinly and not focus on a ship's strengths. Tried with multiple ships last night, and just couldn't do it. Might have to back off to Easy for a bit to unlock the C ship variants and practice some.
  21. Agreed, plus black bars give posts that nice government redacted feel to them.
  22. inSynch

That's the most relaxing video game trailer I've ever seen.
  23. Just don't keep repeating that you don't understand after several people have replied.
  24. FTL

Oh god, I forgot to mention, I ran into one of the new encounters, two ships that had collided with one another and I had the choice to bypass, help them separate or consult a crew member. I hope the rest of the new encounters are as pure gold as this one was.
  25. For those anxiously awaiting the PC port, some info is starting to leak out. On NeoGaf someone leaked some of the available graphics options since the game is now in journalists hands: So it looks like it will at least have most of the options PC gamers expect to be able to fiddle with. And Giant Bomb said on Twitter that they expect to start having coverage of the PC version starting next week. I'm into an NG+ run now, have beat 4 of the early bosses. I'm happy with the changes going from NG to +. Sure it's the same world, but there are differences that will catch you by surprise (both good and bad). I've already had a couple of "Are you fucking kidding me?" moments. Very minor spoiler from the Tower of Flame area:
