  1. Stardew Valley

Haha, that's exactly how I got sucked into this!
  2. Other podcasts

Yeah, I started on the first episode. I've got a friend who I think might have been separated from birth from one of the hosts though, because she could jump right in to this show. She's going to be very excited about this.
  3. Other podcasts

Oh man, these two are so freaking morbid. This is by far the most ghoulish podcast I've listened to due to the shear revelry about death, and I'm only like 15 minutes in.
  4. Idle Sugar

    Basketball candies
  5. Idle Sugar

    German marshmallow mice
  6. Idle Sugar

    Candies that are mouse shaped?
  7. Life

    Hooray, congrats!
  8. Thanks for the thoughts Vulpes! I don't have much of a reply, but you're really making me drool over here. I'm so glad I don't have a modern console right now, I'd be buying two copies of DS3 the same way I did with 2 at launch.
  9. XCOM 2

In the very end, the grapple is worth its weight in gold, as there are a few high points that are accessible only with it with great views.

I hit a pretty frustrating bug tonight. In Fall, there's a county fair type festival, and you can play games to win tokens to buy unique stuff. There's a slingshot game I mostly found frustrating, so I went with the fishing game to build up tokens. Apparently there's a not uncommon bug where if you cast too short during this your casting animation will lock up mid cast and you can't do anything to get out of it other than restart. Most people seemed to have it happen by either trying to get on quick cast in at the end (what happened to me) or just accidentally mis-casting. Playing games legit it takes awhile to build up tokens, plus if you took the time to water your farm and do chores, you have to redo all that stuff to. There is a fairly straightforward way to get tokens easy though, which I ended up using after being frustrated having to replay the day.

I often vacillate on how much I enjoy Krulwich's contributions to the show, at least in the interviews (I have no idea what he does on the production/organization side). I think there are some subject matters in which his particular style are simply not a good fit, sometimes to the point of being off-putting.

I haven't finished even finished it yet, but the most recent RadioLab is one of the finest episodes they've ever done, about young, black debaters challenging the very nature and structure of organized debate (and it includes people from area around Kansas City, which is a giant bonus for me to hear stories from voices from this area, which is so often seen as flyover country and lacking in the intellectual rigor of the coasts).
  13. Day of the Tentacle Special Edition

Really! That's just bonus awesome. I've been meaning to replay that for years, it'll be nice to just have a legit copy of it.
  14. XCOM 2

Also, the black market has 2-3 items that are worth extra supplies every month. Unless I'm in dire need of supplies, I generally hold onto everything and wait to see what is getting the bonus every month. Also, in my first playthrough I ended up incredibly flush with Intel thanks to focusing on skullmining. In a pinch, you can always buy stuff for Intel from the black market and sell it back to them for supplies.
  15. The Next President

You might be right, I haven't taken a look at their criteria or honestly even read the entirety of an entry for quite awhile. I'm the worst, I just trust that their rating is probably right.
  16. XCOM 2

Bluescreen rounds on a pistoleer sniper are fucking crazy, it's my preferred way to use them. The amount of damage a pistoleer can spread around if you've got some robotic enemies in a single round is stunning.
  17. The Next President

Yeah, they tag politicians in stories that may include someone saying something about them, but they filter those out for statistical analysis when considering an individual candidate's historical truthfulness. That said, it can be an interesting thing to take a look at how often someone is lied about. It's fascinating to see how little of a relationship with facts that some famous blowhards have. I mean, we already know that, but seeing laid out brings some more starkness to it. However, one thing that does bug me about that article defending Hilary is that it lumps in "half true" statements with the positives, and I don't believe a half-truth has any value, as the best lies often weave facts and truth in with the bullshit and that such a category should be considered on the "false" side for analysis. That's me though. When I saw someone post this same article earlier today, they followed up with a graph that actually shows a breakdown of each category, and it wouldn't really change the articles argument about Hilary or Bernie if that category was moved.
  18. Revoke Kansas Statehood

I started listening to it this morning, and ended up stopping it about 10 minutes in because it was making me so angry listening to the educators in Wyandotte break down crying about the level of services they needed to delivery on cut budgets and knowing that even something like a snow day, something most kids celebrate, might mean that some kids are going hungry that day. I'll finish it, but it was just too heavy for a Monday morning when I need to focus on getting a running start on my week.
  19. Revoke Kansas Statehood

I will definitely give that a listen tomorrow at work. Thanks!
  20. What happened to Sean on Idle Thumbs?

I wanna see a "Where's Sean Vanaman" in the vein of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" gamejam.
  21. Revoke Kansas Statehood

A lot of us were gobsmacked at his re-election, we were sure we had him beat. It was stupid close (49.82% vs 46.13%), so he still wasn't even able to cross the threshold to a majority of voters supporting him. Voter turnout was around 50 percent, the opportunity to close that gap was there and we just didn't get it done. That election was so dumb. One of the things Brownback used was that Paul Davis had once been in a strip club once when he was in his 20s. Because that's so relevant!
  22. Revoke Kansas Statehood

The showdowns between the Kansas Supreme Court and the governor/legislature are nuts. That's another reason I want some more national attention on this. Kansas has been a test chamber for how far Republicans can push their power at the state level, and even though its been a disaster in virtually every measure, I think it's very probable that we'll see other red states try at least some of these tactics. Oklahoma already has. Something that came out recently was news of meetings where the legislature was considering stripping long term funding from early childhood education and developmentally disabled services in order to plug this years budget hole caused by their radical tax cuts. Funding for those programs comes from a settlement with the tobacco industry, and they were considering selling the future revenue from that settlement for a single lump sum payment this year. Fiscal responsibility!
  23. Return of the Steam Box!

I did end up buying one, and I use it intermittently. I've found I like it for some games, mostly those without a lot of camera control. But for shooters or other games where there's constant camera control usage, I just haven't been able to find settings (even in the downloadable ones) that I find I really like. But I also haven't tried that hard, when I've sat down to play I've mostly just wanted to play and not fiddle.
