  1. Life

I lost soooo many saves when my PS3 Phat died because of this.
  2. Oh, another thing that PC players will never realize is so blessedly wonderful is the load time for co-op and PvP. I'm getting into other people's worlds before the loading screen had even started on the PS3. And I haven't had a single connection error out on me. Even after the patch on the PS3, I still had connections error out once in a while.
  3. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

As frustrating as it is, I've always liked that you could permanently lose trainers and merchants in DeS and DS1. DS2 smooths this out, and there is little to no chance of ever losing a merchant. Which takes some of the persistent dread out of not knowing whether or not something bad is going to happen.
  4. For the dark levels, make sure you've got your in game gamma set correctly. If you've got it towards the dark end of still being able to see the left image, the game is much better. Also, if you TV/Monitor supports full range RGB, check that it is set on both your gaming platform and the display. I replaced my PS3 late last year, and had apparently forgot to double check a bunch of the video settings on the new one, and it was set to limited RGB range. When I changed it to Full range, it was a massive difference in the depth of the blackness. The torch went from being optional to an absolute necessity. I just went through one of the darkest levels on the PC last night, and had to constantly have my torch out, whereas on the PS3 when I went through it, the torch was nice but not strictly necessary. I decided to go pure caster for my first PC character. It's fun, but I think ultimately I love melee characters so much more in Souls games.
  5. This is pretty much how I feel about the game. If I try and not think about DS1 at all, DS2 is one of the best games I've played in the last few years. If I think about DS1, then I start to get disappointed in some aspects of it. It does serve a purpose, but it feels like maybe they had some other plan for that area originally and it got scrapped. I'm still actually having some crashing issues on the PC though. It turns out that the updates mentioned earlier got the game running on a monitor, but it still crashed when plugged into my TV. Finally ended up with a workaround of turning on the onboard sound and having the TV and monitor hooked up at the same time. I could just play in the office on a monitor, but now I'm just being stubborn about getting it working in the room that I actually want to play in.
  6. I've only had a chance to spend about an hour with the PC version since getting it working today, but I have to say it looks terrific, and that framerate is a huge difference vs the PS3 version.
  7. Truthfully I find a lot of that stuff delightfully bizarre, but it's more fun to freak out about it.
  8. Feminism

Their payment processor dumped them today after being made aware of what services they provide.
  9. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?! Not safe for human eyeballs:

Moral of the story: Never trust a man with a mullet in a Russian mall.
  11. Well, that's it folks, it's confirmed that the PC version is the best version that will ever exist. When you invade/summon on the PC, it shows your character name, not your account name like the consoles. So name those characters well people. I'm going to have to make my own Ninja Turtle now.
  12. Flappy48, aka The End of Human Civilization

And that link is going on my block list, lest I let an entire afternoon of work disappear.
  13. The Dresden Files

I watched the show after having read a dozen books, but only watched the first couple of episodes. It wasn't bad, but it didn't do a lot for me, in a large part because the characters and world didn't really match what I already had in my imagination. Stuff like using the Army jeep for his vehicle made sense, it would be another great vehicle for a wizard, but it wasn't the Blue Beetle.
  14. Fuck yeah. So over my lunch break I double checked Windows update, and had some minor updates (just a few to Internet Explorer 11 and some general security updates). Nothing that seems like it should affect a game. Installed those, tried Dark Souls 2, and it fired right up. Video games.
  15. I did about a third of my first playthrough (off and on) in the Company, but wanted to do a fair amount of co-op and play with other Covenants to just stick with it.
  16. Yeah, for all that it looks like Dark Souls, the details of combat feel a lot different. I'd say that a lot of your concerns will go away with a few more levels, some better equipment and learning the DS2 systems better. They definitely nerfed dodging, not near as many I-frames. But backstepping is now a better defensive move and has some really nice I-frames in it. Your equip load is radically different now, which is hard to tell at first. There is only one hard breakpoint, you get a fat roll at 70 percent. Your stamina regen speed and the length of your roll is now a linear progression from 0 to 70 percent. Poise is no longer the uber-stat it was, allowing you to tank your way through any attack. The agility stat (raised with Adaptability and Attunement) affects things like the speed that you drink your estus and the I-frames of rolling, though there is a lot of debate about how useful it is. You can definitely see a big difference in drinking estus though. I like the health loss from hollowing, though it honestly stops being a major issue once you're through the third or fourth area and have some effigies built up and plenty of co-op opportunities.
  17. The Dresden Files

    Yah!
  18. The Dresden Files

I don't think it's anything that's been previously confirmed, but there have been hints for several books that "something" is inside Dresden's head. I read through a bunch of fan theories after Cold Days, and a leading one was (I'll spoiler this if it happens to be right and you want to be surprised): Of course the fan theories are all over the place with the Dresden Files. Some of my favorites to read about were in regards to Mac, the old bartender. Think of any god, demigod or famous wizard, and someone has come up with a series of "facts" to show how Mac is really that person.
  19. Yes on through steamworks, no need for some other account like GFWL. As for VAC...who knows? No where on the store page does it list VAC, which I thought you had to do if you were using VAC. But obviously it is tied into the system somehow if people banned in other games are unable to play online in DS2. The crash people are having is weird as hell. It runs fine on my work desktop, which has a screaming fast 9600gt in it (go go 2008 technology!). But on my gaming rig, I could only get it running on my TV by hooking up a second monitor with DVI, disabling the HDMI TV, starting the game on the DVI monitor, then re-enabling the HDMI TV and disabling the second monitor. And then I would have no sound.
  20. Feminism

A running joke amongst several of my friends for awhile was just replying to any male friend who was complaining with a pat on the back and the phrase, "Well, that's what happens when you're a man with a tiny penis." That said, the ratio of comments about male anatomy to female anatomy is probably in the 1:1000 range in online gaming. Edited: Had the ratio backwards.
  21. That's the way VAC bans are supposed to be. Namco put up an official post in the Steam forums a bit ago about the various issues they are investigating, and that was one of them. Thanks, I've got an HD 7950, but I don't think the GPU is the issue. It actually seems like it is more likely tied to audio somehow, based on a lot of the reports that have come in. I've got it copying over to my other machine right now. Much older video card, but significantly different audio setup. We'll see how that goes.
  22. This blows, I can't get it to run on my machine, crashes instantly. Apparently quite a few people are having the problem, though its working for the vast majority. May be tied to audio to audio over HDMI, no one is sure yet. Been screwing with this for the better part of two hours. I can do a work around to make it run windowed with no sound...yeah, great work around. Trying AMD's beta drivers now to see if that works.
