Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze
Bjorn replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I haven't ended up playing any of the big name alpha/beta/early access games, not even Minecraft, even though I've found the story behind them to often be fascinating. But in my brain, they kind of stop being a game and they become a story that I'm watching unfold and I decide that the story behind the game is more interesting than the game itself ever could be. I don't think mine is a normal reaction, but I do think it's the kind of thing that can develop around these games for people who might otherwise be fans or customers. -
Red team tokens are up above $10 and the rest of the teams are around or below $1. This is the most fascinating thing I've watched with the Steam market stuff.
-
Thanks! I had looked at it before since it has local co-op, and I'll at least check out any game with couch co-op on steam. Anyone played the HD-ification of Resident Evil 4? I haven't played it since it's original Gamecube release and have been wanting to replay it. But I heard a lot of spotty stuff about the Steam release when it first dropped.

I would probably go see that if it was coming anywhere near me, just for spectacle of it all.

Fucking lovely. My daughter and I actually had a talk about her streaming at one point. She was tired of her fast food job and thought about trying to build up a channel (I of course am biased, but think she has the personality to pull it off). Then we watched a couple of streams done by female gamers and that was pretty much the end of the discussion.

Red team tokens are currently selling for $7.50, while all other team tokens have fallen to below $2. Steam is so freaking weird now.
-
Yeah, Red team is taking the lead for the third day in a row, which kind of points towards how someone earlier in the thread thought that once a team won, it would inevitably continue to win since it was getting more cards, barring an organized manipulation of the system like what Reddit was doing.

To be fair, I haven't played a Zelda game since a Link to the Past. So I've never seen Tingle in action.

It seemed like a lot of people thought the DLC was the best part of it. I played it on 360, and wish I had it on Steam instead. I'm just not willing to buy DLC at this point for 360 games since I'm barely using the 360 anymore. I bought Steamworld Dig. Had been interested in it for awhile, and at $2.50, seems like a no-brainer to pick it up.

The Google image search for Radman is fascinating. Tingle.
-
I think you missed the part where I said time machine. I would be taking back rad examples of Rayman to show them, which would inherently be seen as rad. I thought this out. The logic is flawless.
-
Rayman is rad, any other opinion is objectively wrong. If you were to time travel back to the 80s, the birth of all that is rad, and ask people if Rayman is rad, people would 100 percent confirm his radness. I don't know how much the rest of you know about being rad (I'm an expert).

Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze

I had a similar confusion as you for the first few minutes, thinking it was much more complicated than it actually is. There's no "depth", there is just direction and distance from target. The compass constantly tells you what degree you need to be facing in order to go towards your target, and the distance meter tells you how far away you are. That's it. The meter on the right is your forward/backward velocity. The faster you go, the faster you burn fuel. -

So I got pretty deep into it tonight. Not sure if I'm on the last "level" or not, I think the distance I have to go is 7200M, and it kicked my ass multiple times before I decided to take a break for the night. It's absolutely fantastic, and I'm super glad you guys brought it up on the show. As for the "where", I would tend towards feeling like the surface of an alien world, or an Earth post-disaster. Not necessarily post apocalyptic, but maybe something that made a big area unlivable for an extended period of time. -
Holy shit, I had no idea that Dune was published by Chilton's. Chilton's manuals might as well have been my version of a bible when I went through a serious gearhead phase in my teens and early 20s.

Even if that isn't it, it's fabulous. -

Bought! You've managed to nail one of my weak spots (taking my daughter out for ice cream is pretty much one of my favorite things in the world). Also, seriously, it's $5. I shouldn't be cheap about buying really cool indie games. Also, also, searching on Steam, I had thought you guys were talking about Capsized, a weird little 2D platformer about a guy in a deep-sea diving suit thing. I had a weird moment of disorientation as I tried to figure out how I had so deeply misunderstood what this game was about. Ah, okay! The release date on Steam says Feb. 14, 2012, so I thought this had been out for quite awhile. -

Well, I'm going to have to buy Capsule now. Looked up it's Steam page, and if you guys hadn't already sold me on it, this would have: I absolutely love it when a game can actually make me feel anxiety. I probably shouldn't complain, but I'm a bit disappointed it isn't on sale during the Steam Sale. I mean, it's only $5, but the Steam sale is happening. I don't know if I can buy a game not on sale during the Steam sale. Because Sale. -
That has probably been my absolute favorite game to come out of the Kickstarter revolution. Can't recommend it enough for fans of strategy RPGs.

I've got a ton of stuff on my wishlist, and get emails quite often. Though most of the time the email just makes me wonder, "Why on earth did I ever put that on my wishlist?"

I was super happy when an Alamo Drafthouse came to Kansas City awhile back, even though it's close to an hour drive for us to go there, it's still worth it. The Drafthouse chain has no advertising, reasonable prices, and a hardcore enforced behavior policy (no phones, texting, etc). For every single film they show, they make a custom intro reel with movie clips, vintage ads and vintage trailers from movies that are thematically linked in some way. The first time I went to a Drafthouse in Austin, Tex., it reminded me why going to the movies ought to be an amazing experience. The Kansas City theater is also in a nearly century old theater that's one of my favorite buildings in town.

Trine 2 is on the WiiU. I've played the PC version of it, and it's a stunningly good looking and quite fun 2d platformer. Most of the main puzzles aren't too complex, though a few of the optional puzzles to reach secrets can take quite a bit of skill. Edited to add: There's a site Co-optimus that keeps a database of pretty much ever co-op game made for each platform. Great resource if you specifically want to look at all the co-op options on a console.

Good call, didn't even think about that since it was just an interview.
