That's a brilliant idea SAM, a kind of hero manipulation game. You could probably also explore the idea through other mechanics, like a kind of overhead view god game, where you manipulate the hero's environment to ensure his victory.

This is a general argument that I've been trying to make for years, that so much of what we think we know (in America) about society has it's origins in starting around 1940.

@ProblemMachine - Everything you just said - And, then this: I should get back to work.

"because apparently people really like ridiculously sized cocks." Actually, it's men who like big...things. A massive statistical analysis of sex toy sales showed that men (both straight and gay) were more likely to buy bigger toys (dildos and butt plugs) than any orientation of women. So yeah, size matters...to men. http://jonmillward.com/blog/studies/down-the-rabbit-hole-analysis-1-million-sex-toy-sales/ It's a big (ha!) piece, the size stuff is about two-thirds of the way down.

I didn't feel like that's what the author was arguing, it was that this traditional idea of what it meant to be an "adult" has been broken, but that it was probably a fictional idea all along. Particularly for men who have often had space, encouragement or an expectation to indulge in more immature pursuits, but now women are getting to indulge immature behavior in the same way.

I couldn't get through RE6, even in co-op. It wasn't terrible, but I just couldn't find anything in it that I cared about.

Poetic justice still doesn't feel right either, as that usually means that some repercussion or reward was granted due to someone's actions, and that hasn't happened yet (unless you mean the gaters getting this kind of content is their poetic justice...but some of them probably want this content, so there's not justice in it?). This is just them proving that they will act exactly as we figured they would. They just lived down to our expectations? Is there a phrase for that? I think I'm confusing myself trying to find good words here. I should probably clarify to some extent my earlier half finished thought. I know that there are porn games, and have very briefly attempted to delve into a few, but never found anything compelling enough to warrant remembering. I think that sex and sexuality are endlessly fascinating and that there ought to be good games exploring them, but my default assumption is that any game attempting to do so is probably terrible, so it stops me from ever really engaging with what has been made, therefore reinforcing my opinion that no good games about sex exist. I've appreciated Cara's S.EXE column over at RPS for introducing me to at least a few games that generally at least try to approach the subject with some interesting level of thought, which has not otherwise been my experience when looking for anything on my own. But I've mostly just read her pieces and then not gone out and actually played any of those games.

That NBA piece is really incredible.

So a gaming site that was founded following the formation of an slut-shaming, misogynistic hate mob goes on to review a game with rape as mechanic as one of their very first reviews. You can't make that shit up. I'm going to be fair here though, and say that I actually appreciated reading that review and know nothing about the game in terms of how it presents it's content other than that piece. I actually wish we had far more games that dealt with sex and sexuality in interesting ways, I just don't know if that is a game that does it or not.

So the welcome letter to the launch of goodgamers includes this: I'm just...fucking speechless.

I just bought it (thanks for the reminder!) just so I can gift Gone Home to someone, plus I get Luftrausers and Prison Architect out of it as a bonus.

I wish we had a pink thumb to use.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Bjorn replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Somehow this puts a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm not sure I can even exactly explain why. I feel like it's tied into the circumstances around Marty leaving Bungie. Plus, it feels like if McCartney is willing to give new work to a game with a budget of a half billion fucking dollars, less scrupulous people at Activision (or EA or Ubi) will use that as pressure against smaller musicians ("Hey kid, even Sir McCartney recognizes the power of video games, it's like the power of love, but with a billion dollar budget"). That might be total conspiracy theory level paranoia, but it hardly seems out of the realm of possibility. -
Holy crap! How does that compare to regular housing costs in your area? Before I posted anything, I did a very quick search around Seattle just to see, and was seeing stuff for $30,000 (but of course I know nothing about their relative location in town and whatnot).

You should change the thread title to a smiley face!

More like alchemy. By which I mean spray painting poop gold and insisting that you're rich.

I had actually been mostly ignoring this stuff for the last few days except for what I've seen brought up here, but I went back down the rabbit hole over my lunch hour today. Oh, so apparently another move that I had completely missed is that the gaters are encouraging people to directly complain to advertisers about Polygon, Kotaku and any other site they think are carrying on the agenda of the Feminist Cabal? It looks like it was born on /v/ but has spread other places: http://www.donotlink.com/bljk And some people are claiming a victory (I don't believe this email for a second): https://twitter.com/Chriss_m/status/509486352174694400 Because an anonymous customer service rep is really going to speak about what their advertising strategy is to a random dude on the Internet that emailed him. CliffyB pissed some people off: The FYC continue to triple down on getting press by spreading dirty laundry about Quinn. And once again, no one asks what experience they actually have in producing a video game from start to finish. http://apgnation.com/archives/2014/09/09/6977/truth-gaming-interview-fine-young-capitalists

Pretty much that. There was a fairly awkward AMA where the three people associated with the campaign weren't able to answer any basic questions about why they needed money, what the money would be used for or what their plan was. http://www.reddit.com/r/AMA/comments/2feuyz/attorney_representing_goodgamersus_ama/ Also, the new "ethical" gaming news site that was born from gamerghazi is supposed to start posting today. That should be interesting. http://www.goodgamers.us/ They really missed an opportunity to have goodgamers.cool. Or maybe coolgamers.cool.
-
Dammit, I literally laughed out loud at those.

That indiegogo campaign to launch a lawsuit against outlets for...something...ethics...something...is stuck in a quagmire because apparently you can't cancel an Indiegogo campaign under any circumstances. Which is really fucked policy, it's somewhat shocking that there is absolutely no way to ever bring down a campaign on your own regardless of circumstances. That said, I find some delicious irony in the fact that someone opened up a campaign to "investigate" journalists without bothering to read the terms and service agreement of their funding source, and is now upset and blaming Indiegogo for their own failure to educate themselves and do due diligence.

My experience with loans is mostly just that you need to present an income history that indicates a future potential to be able to pay back the loan. Depending on the length of loan, the monthly payment for a trailer can easily be sub-$400 (or even much lower than that), which even if you have a very, very modest income (even just part time income), you'll still be making multiple times what your housing payment is.
