/sarcasm also, now a terrible autocorrect is immortalized in your quote.

Wouldn't it be great if we had access to both current and historical data regarding police shootings? Too bad that there have been absolutely no gains made technologically over the last 30 years in data gathering and dissemination.
  3. Spacebase!

Man, JP LeBreton is getting hammered in some forums for making a statement about a month ago about how they wouldn't just be silently pulling the plug. I feel bad for the guy, I'm sure when he said it, he believed that and this can't have been a decision that was within his control. That post makes it sound like the small team working on it anticipated continuing to work for many months to come. Sure, I'm frustrated that this isn't going to end up in the state I thought it would when I bought it. It was the first ever Early Access game I bought, and I doubt I buy into another one from DF if they go that route again. But blaming JP for this ain't right.

All of the modern KB games suffer from being overly long, but are otherwise terrific games. I think the base Armored Princess game (without the Crossworlds expansion) is the shortest of them all. I eventually gave up on Warriors of the North, as it just drags on forever. I haven't played Dark Side, but it sounds like it makes the length even worse, by encouraging replayability by making each class a unique character, with unique companions and one would presume at least some changes to dialogue and whatnot.
  5. Fantasy Finale XV

I'm shocked we haven't seen an Axe + video game crossover commercial yet. Unless there has been one, and I just don't watch enough TV to see it.
  6. Hammerwatch - A thumb whacking good time

Surprisingly, they released a free expansion yesterday, adding a whole new campaign and some balance stuff. I'm not familiar with it to know how big the balance changes are. But I'm pretty surprised that they would release a free campaign during a HumbleBundle sale. I mean, that's cool, but not what one would expect. The boss on regular cost us like a half dozen lives, I can only imagine fighting it solo on the hardest difficulty.
  7. Awesome! Now I don't want to have to wait to listen to this until tomorrow.
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I was just about to post those, he had a couple of more as well. It's sad, he gives juveniles a bad name.
  9. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

I really can't think of any "campy" horror games. I suppose Psychonauts kinda falls in there, with it's "something has gone horribly wrong at summer camp" thing. If I'm going to add any horror gaming in this year, I'll probably try and prioritize continuing my playthrough of Silent Hill 2. Speaking of horror games, has anyone ever played Obscure or Obscure 2? I ask because both are available on Steam, and they are the rare horror game that include local co-op, which makes them super intriguing to me. I'm willing to tolerate a lot of bad for an interesting co-op experience.
  10. Feminism

Mostly just from my impressions from her from having been reading her Twitter feed off and on for awhile. Bully enabler may have been a better phrase. Sommers is someone who will show up like clockwork to most public discussions about women and feminism, towing the conservative line and often supporting those who are trying to bully or harass others, and they use her support as justification for their actions (take a look at all the gaters she's retweeted and supported). Part of that includes her trying to deny or minimize any of the harm women face over campaigns like gamerghazi. As for belittling, a regular tactic is to mock people or feminist ideas to belittle them, to reinforce that under no circumstances should she or her fellows take anything a feminist says seriously. I just went back through her last few days on Twitter to pull out some examples. The Trigger Warning link goes to a Google search for Roy Roger's horse. And I'm someone who's not entirely sold on the idea of Trigger Warnings (particularly not in academic settings), but I'm not going to mock and belittle those who prefer to use them.
  11. Feminism

Here's an example of the kind of work she recommends, an editorial that suggests the increasing focus on sexual assault and rape in college is harming men, and the lone example is an anonymous and incomplete story (as written by the guy's mother) of a guy who worried that his obsessive sexual fantasies might make him at risk of harming someone and sought treatment multiple times for it on his own. Three real women who he fantasized about were ultimately notified that he may be a risk to them, as required by medical ethics due to the concerns his treatment providers had.
  12. Feminism

Sommers is someone who believes that bullying and belittling people both represent appropriate dialogue, but tries to sell herself as being someone who is setting the record straight when it comes to feminism.
  13. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

Do we have a thread with the current podcast promotion codes? I don't remember seeing one. That way if you want to use one of the promotions and aren't in a position to write down the code, you can just reference the thread.
  14. Another World Windows

It was really weird when I first started hanging out here, but now I find it one of the more charming parts of the forums.
  15. Recently completed video games

I finished Wolf Among Us a couple of nights ago. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. I'm somewhat convinced that traditional style mysteries just don't work very well in video game form. I think games that are about exploring a space to solve a mystery work (like Miasmata or Gone Home), because the player has some agency, can discover clues out of order, pick up things from the environment without them being highlighted and ultimately figure out what is going on without the developer telling them. But when a game has a straightforward narrative like WAU or LA Noire, it just feels like it loses any sense of agency in the discovery process, which is the fun part!
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

    Totally agreed.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

That was my issue with it, not that it's a terrible movie (though I'm not a fan of it), but that the book is an examination of how an apocalypse would affect the entire world, ranging from very small stories of individuals surviving up to how governments reacted to it, told through a documentary style. There's a great film in there, they just decided to buy the name and make a different (and overall less interesting) movie.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Out of curiosity, had you read the book?
  19. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

That will make way for Fox's two exciting new spin-offs: Simpson's in Hell and Simpson's in Heaven. Watch as your America's favorite animated family learns to navigate new communities in their hilariously loveable ways, while seeking to reunite in Purgatory.
  20. So on valuation, I just saw someone point out that in the last few years, Disney acquired both LucasFilms and Marvel for about $4 billion each, meaning Microsoft values Mojang being worth about two-thirds what either Marvel or Star Wars is worth.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I don't necessarily mind driving traffic to a site, I like donotlink simply to avoid leaving a trail back to the Idle Forums. Not like gaters couldn't end up here anyways, but some of the more toxic, virulent, obnoxious places I've linked, I'd rather they not be able to look at their site's analytics and decide to engage here with their bullshit. I've tried talking with some of them in comments sections and seen enough Twitter conversations to know I'd rather just keep it away from here. It's why I've also tried to avoid actually using certain names when talking about stuff, since I know some of these folks regularly search for their own names just to wade into arguments wherever they are mentioned.
  22. Well, there are some of the questions answered about platforms and exclusivity. Plan is to continue development across all platforms. http://www.joystiq.com/2014/09/15/xbox-chief-minecraft-will-continue-on-playstation-mobile/
  23. Prison Architect

The current Humble Bundle includes it at $10. If there are other games in the bundle that you want, then I'd say pick up Prison Architect now. I've waited on buying it due to it's Early Access state, and some thematic concerns. But getting it in that bundle made it worth it to me to try finally.
