I'm tentatively excited about it. Like, if it's terrible, then I just won't watch much. And if it's good, then cool, it's an extension of one of my favorite series of movies. It's not like it can ruin the originals. And a limited run series seems like a good match. A chance to explore some more of the absurdity of Ash's world, but not too long for Ash's schtick to wear thin.

Weird, The Evil Dead is returning as a TV series, complete with Raimi and Campbell. That was unexpected.
  3. Idle Santa 2014

I totally missed seeing this earlier, just PM'd you. Thanks again for organizing this!
  4. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I think it's Brimstone that appears to cause that crazy fly spam with Guppy. Twice now I've gotten Guppy with a Brimstone attack (once with the Demon Baby and once in a Challenge where I couldn't fire at all as part of the Challenge, but my wife's co-op baby could). In both cases, the flies were INSANE. The couple of other times I've been Guppy without any Brimstone attack, I did not have near as many flies. I've got a couple of similar screenshots that I meant to upload, but they're currently on my gaming rig and I'm on my work computer right now. As for your second spoiler:

Oh yeah, I learned some stuff last night! So the Donation Machine doubles as a bank/atm as well. If you bomb it, it pops out money. This has a minor cost of one lost coin per bombing (so if it pops out 5 coins, it will deduct 6 from the machine). But crazy valuable when there is a great item in the store and you're just a few coins away from being able to buy it. The dead merchant can also drop coins sometimes, so just make sure to place the bomb so it hits the merchant and the machine. If you aren't dumping tons of money into the Donation Machine, you should be. The upgrades are all well worth it. I'm currently in the 200s on it. The Rune of Jera (spoilered in case people haven't unlocked it and want to try it themselves the first time) The Shovel is both awesome and infuriating. Lastly, earlier I mentioned having to restart a run because I couldn't kill the enemies in the room due to my short range orbital attack. Apparently there is a failsafe in which the doors of a room will automatically open after some amount of time (at least 2 minutes...not sure exactly). I got the Soy Milk item, which is terrible unless you have some other items to synergize with it (in which case it is probably awesome). It took me so long to clear out one of the big rooms that I triggered the timer and all the doors popped open. I was super confused, until I went searching and discovered that this is apparently a new feature. So yeah, if you get stuck in a room like that, just hide and go make a sandwich or something.

Spent a pretty big junk of today playing around in co-op. We're slowly getting better at it! Knocked out a couple of challenges, but we still haven't been able to make the Heart in a regular run. I think the Spelunky comparison I made before is apt, we're both significantly better by ourselves than we are playing together. It's just enough of a distraction that throw both of us off. Still a ton of fun though. We fired up the Challenge "Demo Man" not knowing what it was, and just about pissed ourselves laughing at what a debacle that was. I found the most powerful combo of stuff I've yet encountered tonight. Cricket's Body and the Parasite with some decent damage upgrades.

Holy balls, that thread. I kept copying comments to paste here, then I'd read the next one, and then the next one, and so on. It just kept getting more absurd. Like comparing Sarkeesian's slides to Japanese Internment Camps in WW2 and to modern despotic regimes jailing activists who oppose them.
  8. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

It and Bean have both been tough, and no, I haven't gotten through either. Funny thing is that you can co-op them, and your co-op buddy can shoot. But even with that help, I haven't got through it. The baby's firepower isn't a ton, so your partner can't carry you through. And you always share orbitals with a co-op partner. So in Solar System, the baby gets the distant fly, and you only get the closer red fly. I did get through the first challenge finally, the one where you can't see your health. Logically I know it shouldn't matter that much whether I know how much health I have, I should just play and gather hearts when I can. But it's nerve wracking as hell not knowing.

So a group of like 10 of us were going to see Interstellar for a friend's birthday today. Only the birthday boy and his wife bought tickets early, the rest of us figured it was a Saturday afternoon and there was no need. Got to the theater 40 minutes early and it was totally sold out. So we all went to see Big Hero 6 instead, while he and his wife went to Insterstellar. We are the worst friends. BH6 was tons of fun though!
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Good fucking lord. And his characterization of the KiA thread seems accurate. I couldn't find that thread, so I poked my head into the Escpapist gg thread, and it's a combination of denial, accusations about his character, "no true scotsman", mockery, insisting that he just needs to be quiet and he never should have said a word in the first place as it will only make things worse for him. At least I got to read something written by another Kansas farm boy and now I know he's someone to follow.
  11. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Nice, congrats! I don't know what all gets seeded there, if it's the same every time with just the extra surprise, or what. I don't think I'd have the patience to go all the way to Mom's Heart. So I woke this morning and found my wife playing BoIR! After playing in co-op the last few nights has gotten her hooked on it and she wanted to try it out herself. She used to hate hard games, but she's become really hooked on a bunch of roguelikes in the last couple of years. I got through both Sheol and the Cathedral last night, both with pretty OP builds. But that's all the characters unlocked except for ???. Judas might be my favorite character, even though he's a pain to start with.
  12. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I made it to the second boss, but only because the first one got stuck and I was able to stand still and blast him
  13. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

From a friend, just say it out loud: I have to admit, it was a very bold move casting Tom Hanks as Jar-Jar, and making the whole movie a biopic about his life.
  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yep, and the info dumps on her are justified by claiming she's a secret troll who's only showing support to eventually make them look like dumbasses. You know, because the collection of lying, opportunistic, inflammatory, racist, misogynistic, rape apologist, holocaust denying, homophobic, body shaming supporters they have been getting are no big deal. But the way they react when they think a woman might make them look silly...that says something, doesn't it? Edited to add: I forgot homophobic and body shaming
  15. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

The reading I've done about her, at the minimum she's an interesting character of the type that Austin produces, which is fine. And if I was voting for her, some of the info dug up would be worth knowing (but only a fraction of what I've seen). But the interesting thing to me was how she was handled by KiA and 8chan compared to how they handled other people who have wandered into gg.
  16. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Too easy? I kind of also want to make a red arrow filled conspiracy image explaining the connections between MacGuyver, Twin Peaks, Stargate and Farscape.
  17. Agreed, I've actually felt the mandatory shift over to voiced games has done more to limit storytelling than almost any other big change in games in the last 15 years.
  18. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Dammit, I have way to many thoughts about this game. Has anybody been playing around with the new characters? I've tried both Eden and Azazel. Azazel seems like he's got the potential to be one of the strongest characters in the game if you're good at dodging and can get a couple of early health pickups. Ultimately his downside in late game though is the extremely limited range of his attack. He's who I lost to Satan with, chasing those hooves around and I shudder to think about trying to go after the Cathedral with him. I never have been very good at finishing that level though. Eden is possibly my favorite character now. Random stats and 2-3 random items. I like the random start over the fixed bonuses of other characters. Oh, and one of the challenges unlocks a new Tarot Card: The Card Against Humanity. I think someone on the dev team might be making some commentary about CAH with it. It got me to laugh my ass off. If you want to be surprised, don't read the spoiler, just use it when you get it (it's not a bad effect).

Seriously, just look at the potential:

I'm supposed to see it tomorrow afternoon with some friends, so I'll avoid the spoilers til then!
  21. Fantasy Finale XV

That makes me want JRPG where you play as Hunter S. Thompson on a drug fueled road trip, acquiring new party members as you go, but you're never really sure if the enemies (or your party for that matter) are real or not. Or maybe some of them are, and some aren't. Or maybe...fuck, is this bat country?
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Has anybody been paying attention to what KiA and 8chan have been doing about the Austin woman who was running for city council? It's fucking nuts, and they are completely blind to how they manage to act in EXACTLY the way that people expect them to act. I'm not going to link to any of the discussion about her, because most of them include links to a fucking online dossier on her. This is one of the crazy things. So doxxing is the most evil sin of reddit right? Do that shit, and get nuked. Oh, but spend hours assembling a multimedia dossier on a person, including pictures (some nudes), excerpts from forums, the history of their social media accounts? No fucking problem! Post away, that's fine. They make sure that they include multiple pieces of information that may indicate that she's worked in a couple of different adult industries...because...ethics? Fuck, ethics are hard, how do they work again? A lot of this appears to have been gathered by someone(s) in Austin because she's a D-list celebrity down there, but the gamergaters have latched onto it and expanded it with their expert background checking experience. Then there are the sadly hilarious replies to her. A bunch of messages about how she's not "allowed" to speak about or for gamergate. She replied to one of those pointing out that a leaderless movement who claim to accept all doesn't get to pick who speaks about it. Then there was another thread about how it was fine if she talked about it, but she really needed to have a long conversation with one of the men of gamergate so that he could explain everything to her and make sure she understood. Of all the people who have weighed in on gg pro or against, I haven't seen anyone who ended up with the sheer volume of information presented about them like I have this woman. Fucking gg doesn't even know who some of their thought leaders are, like I'm pretty sure some of the youtubers have managed to stay mostly anonymous, and gg doesn't seem to question anything they say.
  23. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

In addition to what Turbo said, when you beat Mom's Heart, there is still a chance for a Devil/Angel room to appear (that's how I got to both areas, I haven't beaten the heart enough yet to permanently unlock them). Even before you've naturally unlocked the additional levels, you can go ahead and go in those rooms and there will be a new passage way in them. Go ahead and check them out if you get them, as you still get the Ending and item unlock from beating Mom's Heart even if you don't open the chest. You just have to go to the Endings menu to see it. Items that raise Faith and Evil should increase the chances of the Angel and Devil rooms appearing, respectively. The poo boss is the fucking worst. My first three solid attempts at taking no damage for two floors to unlock Samson were all ruined by it. As for Tech 1/2, yeah, I know the limitations of them. But I got Tech 1 on the first floor and Tech 2 on the second floor. I was so sure of myself that getting them that early would let me bank a bunch of health (since they make the early floors so easy), and that I'd pick up at least a few damage upgrades. The first half of my plan worked perfectly. Looking forward to whatever that is!
