Sweet video. Sweet story. Sweet game.

Speaking of percussion instruments! I just got back together with a couple of guys I was trying to start a band with earlier this year and it was the most fun I've had jamming in ages. I took my drumset over to the guitarist's place and the room we're using to practice has totally different acoustics to the room I usually play it in, it made my drums sound really tight and punchy and just made me super excited about playing. If anyone's played an instrument for any length of time and then suddenly you make it sound better somehow, or you get a new cymbal/effects pedal/whatever, or you play a better sounding one or something, you probably know how satisfying that feeling is, and how it makes you want to play better in turn. Not to mention the guitarist came up with a really cool riff with a weird off-kilter rhythm that challenged me to be creative with how I played, which was loads of fun. Just a really cool session that's left me feeling very creatively charged. Sorry if this is too upbeat after all the downer posts. Rest assured my life is in the toilet outside of this one experience.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
BadHat replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
That C2C video was really neat. Song wasn't half bad either. Here's a sweet cover of a Boards of Canada song. -
Note: I mention rape a lot in this post. Sorry if that bugs you. There was a part in that video that bugged me (aside from the whole thing). When he's highlighting "incriminating" tweets by Dina, he brings up one where she retweeted something about rape. Oh no, right? She mentioned rape by proxy as is therefore going to get her smelly vagina all over our cool game, or something. Ok, maybe I'm overreacting just because the entire rest of the video is a giant screaming idiot, I should dig a little deeper before I call foul. So I dug a little deeper... and by a little I mean literally one google search. Here's the tweet: https://twitter.com/playismEN/status/362851117673091072 And here's the article it's referring to: http://playism.tv/guest-post-appealing-to-a-foreign-audience/ It's a list of tips for making your game more marketable in America, targeted mostly at Japanese developers. It references dating sims a lot. It includes such controversial suggestions as "don't make your female characters demure fuckdolls with no will of their own if you intend to sell to women," and "maybe don't make your male characters so gosh darn rapey." Because yeah, these are totally design philosophies which are going to upend the proud tradition of Mega Man, or uh... christ I don't know. It's pretty clear he never even read this and just used "dislikes rape" as shorthand for "is a feminazi," which is kind of disgusting. Want more proof? Here's a dead link to 4chan that popped up in my search which google preserved a neat little snippet of: Someone from /v/ agreed with this point. Fucking /v/, mind you.

Yep those are a pain in the ass, especially since 90% of them are the same objectives repeated over and over. "Hey a spike popped up again!" Thank you, presidential butler man. I was also annoyed that they weren't even always accurate, like when he tells you you'll have to locate them yourself using the veins, and yet you still have a big goofy arrow telling you where to go. Still, fun!

I was tempted to try this out after seeing the GB quick look. At the very least, it looks miles better than .

Just posting to confirm that Liberation Maiden is excellent. Wasn't too challenging on normal but I'm diving right back in on hard because this shit is fuuuuun.

It's probably time to talk about game genres again.
BadHat replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah, after a certain point it just becomes pointless navel-gazing. Like people who get really up in arms about defining their pet genre in music. For instance, try having a conversation with someone who's really adamant that most modern post-rock isn't "really" post-rock.* * Don't, though. -
A term I've seen employed a lot lately that bugs me maybe more than feminazi is SJW, meaning Social Justice Warrior. It bugs me because it's meant to be used sarcastically, but also, what does it say someone who would use that term sarcastically. It perfectly encapsulates so many shallow, fallacious arguments in such a small word count, it might just be the most efficient way for someone to declare their ignorance yet conceived. I actually heard this term employed in reference to Dina. Yeah, she's a warrior because she got a job and has views. Edit: Hey, relevance! This video was fucking exhausting to get through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXDSfUJBCj0

I'm surprised I actually finished Watamote. It's the sort of series I'd normally get weary of very quickly, but there was something so endearing about it. God, what a depressing show, though.

Oh man I've been wanting to get those for ages. Liberation Maiden, Attack of the Friday Monsters and Starship Damrey all sound fantastic. Speaking of Level 5, I just remembered Fantasy Life was a thing, which I guess has been out for nearly a year now in Japan with no solid news of a western release. I guess this bodes well, though. Oh well, I'll have Rune Factory 4 to tide me over soon enough.

Please can I know what that's from

Bummer, this looks really neat but the download links are 404ing for me. Anyone know of a working mirror? (Ahh sorry for commenting the thread up even more)

Damned By: 9heads Game Studios Available: Steam or Desura Sypnosis: Multiplayer horror game. Up to 4 people play as feeble humans who must survive long enough to navigate their way to the exit of the level, while 1 other person systematically hunts them down as a horrifying flesh monster or ghostly apparition. Early access and still a bit rough around the edges, but already has the potential to be both terrifying and hilarious when playing with people you know (randoms maybe not so much, it can be trolled pretty easily). Important note: all of the people in the video below are kind of ruining the game by not using the in-game voice chat. It has locational voice so you can only hear people near you, which makes getting separated pretty tense, and also means the monster can find you if you're too loud.

Just for reference, I use a wireless 360 controller with rechargeable batteries and a shitty third-party dongle I found for like $10 and it works perfectly. The most hassle I ever have to go to is pointing the drivers to the device manually which is . Can't vouch for unofficial drivers but I don't see how they'd differ really.

In my experience, people who dislike them all don't have nearly as much to say about them as people who liked one of them but hated another. Frequently this is between VII and VIII, people tend to have this weird sense of loyalty to one while despising the other to the point of being spiteful to those who prefer it. Of course, the only difference between the two is that the people who like VIII better are objectively wrong.

Well, if anyone asks, I'm Irish now.

Looks like their site is getting pretty hammered, guess I'll check back later.

The most creative I got was renaming Cloud "FUCK ME" so all the other characters would yell it when he jumped into the train at the start. Man, what a riot.

I don't remember Vincent either, but Yuffie is easy enough to find, she just shows up in a random encounter in one particular area of the world. If you're combing the world then they're probably not all that missable, I just assumed you might've been breezing through since you're using cheats. Relevant bit of trivia: there's actually a GF ability (or whatever the materia equivalent was) in FF8 that disables random encounters entirely. Too bad that's not the only unbearable part of that game.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I would advise looking up a guide on the two optional characters at least, since it's possible not to recruit them and miss out on some chunks of story. Vincent I didn't personally give a stuff about, but Yuffie's side story in Wutai was pretty fun from memory.

Namco High: Date obscure Namco characters... and Homestuck?
BadHat replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Obviously the real crime here is that Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff aren't potential love interests. I can no longer imagine "Homestuck fan" without this picture immediately coming to mind. -
Players take on the persona of critic Ian Bogost as he moves around a lavishly detailed environment littered with fully readable books that are more engaging than Gone Home.

Opened my 3DS for the first time in months to register an account and it occurred to me that I've been switching between PAL territories whenever I used the store to find the cheapest prices, now I have to pick one permanently. Anyone have any idea if registering my account to a different country will cause problems? Can I register multiple accounts for different regions on the same console, like you can on Xbox/PS3?
