I tried watching High School of the Dead on the insistence of a friend but I found it gross and just all kinds of weird, tonally. There's this trend in anime of series that set out to be gratuitous almost for its own sake, shows like Elfen Lied (which I disliked), Higurashi (liked), and Mirai Nikki (despised), shows that try to put on a false face of maturity by presenting as many horrible things as possible. These shows tend to be pretty tone deaf, but HSotD was downright tone retarded. I mean I get cheesecake, but it's utterly confusing to the senses to have scenes of shameless ecchi cut right alongside scenes of horrible, depressing violence. I just don't understand how I'm meant to react to that on any level. Anyone following Ghost in the Shell: Arise? I enjoyed the first episode but the second one is a noticeable dip in quality. I wouldn't have minded if the animation was the only thing to suffer, but the action scenes border on Matrix-level ridiculousness at times. I always liked how restrained and terse the action was before, so it's hard not to be pessimistic about the remaining episodes. Not to mention the plot seemed like it was mostly just ticking a bunch of boxes from the GITS play book.

Yeah, it'd be pretty infantile to actually bring legal action against someone for inserting the likeness of one of your characters into your game as a pointless easter egg. *cough* http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/2/4293484/nyan-cat-keyboard-cat-creators-sue-scribblenauts-over-easter-eggs

I was all like "whatever" and then I saw this screenshot and was all like "neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat" http://cdn4.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/225280/ss_a4e6ef8ab9b868e6f805eefe5f3a5fc392e2a9ae.1920x1080.jpg I'm kind of resistant to the idea of buying into early release roguelikes though, since discovery is such a vital part of their appeal it feels like I'd be spoiling it for myself with anything but a vaguely finished product. Which is why I still didn't get Nuclear Throne even though it looks really great.

But pepper in the word "objective" said in the same sultry manner as they say "exclusive" in game trailers or whatever. ie -
Does anyone else have vivid food dreams? I dreamt I was trying to buy some really nice looking rocky road but my only means of payment was an A4-sized slab of glass with the words "credit card" printed across the front. The cashier wouldn't accept it because it was "out of date" and proceeded to get really verbally abusive over it. One of my hated childhood acquaintances was also there acting characteristically smug, just to rub salt in the wound. I woke up with an intense craving for rocky road. I've never craved rocky road before in my fucking life.

Metroid survival horror: you lose all your equipment at the start and then just never get it back. It looks like they're nailing the atmosphere, the ship and alien look super good, but the amount of scripted/non-interactive stuff in that gameplay video put me right off. This is kind of a specific complaint, but I'm really tired of first person games with overly detailed animations of you interacting with an object like it's the most interesting fucking thing in the world. "Whoa check out this pencil, I'd better look at it from every conceivable angle before I put it in my inventory!" Who acts this way? Better question: who acts this way when there could be an alien behind them at any given moment?

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics

Still playing every few days to clear out my dailies and get some arena runs in. Even with the limited card pool I find myself behind on the meta and can't seem to put together a really killer deck in constructed. Murloc decks are fun, though. -

That response was brilliant, got a laugh out of me. Well, sites for scientific journals have begun disabling their comments as they don't believe they add anything worthwhile to the discussion. Truly, is this site any less objective than they? Suggestion re: the credits page - have author bios, but make them all essentially the same. "Is a human person; consumes electronic video entertainment with scientific veracity in order to arrive at an objective appraisal of their worth." -
Visiting my movie watching buddy so I've been on a bit of a spree the last couple days. The Comedy - Darkly, sadly hilarious. Kill List - Brutal, intriguing. Kind of trails off towards the end. A Field In England - What? Ran - Haven't seen this in way too long. Incredible. Contains the most beautifully shot battle scene I think I've ever seen. Blue Is The Warmest Colour - As convincing and relatable as its sex scenes are hilarious.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

I can't help but be reminded a little of this. -
I'm staying at a motor camp to visit someone. There are a ton of people here on vacation or whatever. Today as I was walking across the camp grounds I heard a speaker bark out "YOU'RE LISTENING TO GIANT BOMB" and then instantly fade away before I could locate it. Pretty sure it was Ryan's voice too.

Game of Thrones is quite a good show. slowpoke.jpg

Yeah, this puts me off as well. The inability to alter your strategy after you punch in all the actions makes it seem a bit rigid. Same reason I couldn't get into Lost Odyssey even though it seemed pretty great otherwise. Want more games with an ATB system like Final Fantasy X. The way the turns played out according to speed and you could see the order updating when you cast haste or something was great. Too bad everything else in that game was poop. Started playing Fire Emblem finally and it's quite addictive. I didn't realise raising a relationship to S would automatically pair characters up if they were eligible, so now Chrom and Sumia are married I guess. "I knew you were meant for me somewhere between the 5th and 6th pie." What a hopeless romantic.

Also, respawning Vox Populi checkpoints.

This blog post someone wrote from one of those tweets is hilariously obtuse. http://www.gjob.co.uk/blog/?p=1860 -

Also Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons I guess this is my first post here too! About time I finished a game, figured it should be this one since I gifted it to a couple people and they already beat it before me. I could talk about some of the quibbles I had with this game, or the oddities that occurred to me as I moved through its picturesque world, but instead I'll just say this: tonight I was feeling depressed. Some things were weighing pretty heavily on me and sleep wasn't cooperating, so I decided I'd play a game to distract myself instead. I finished this in one sitting (with a cat asleep on my lap for most of it) and now I feel like a million bucks. There are certainly criticisms to be made of it, but I was so utterly enamored with it that I'm inclined not to care. It's beautiful, and touching, and sometimes downright inspired. That's enough for me. I give it

My taste in music. I know a couple people who have similar enough tastes that I can float bands to them without being 100% certain they'll reject them out of hand, but with most people I don't even bother going into it any more. I mean I try not to have a sense of snobbery about it but there are only so many times you can be told something like "pfft, it's just complex for the sake of being complex, there's nothing musical about that!" without wanting to throttle the person in question (even if sometimes they're kind of right).

Path of Exile: It's pretty much a Diablo 2 sequel, but it's not Diablo 3!
BadHat replied to Niyeaux's topic in Video Gaming
I generally enjoy games with permadeath, or games that have heavy consequences for death, but the hardcore mode in this was too much for me. I played around with a few characters and carefully plotted out a build I thought would be effective (and was, for the first stretch of the game), then died about 10 hours in to a champion with a million magic effects who showed up out of fucking nowhere and one shot me. I mean ultimately it was still down to me not being careful enough, but it was just too much effort and time to spare for such an unsatisfying end. -
That is hilarious, congrats on getting so much coverage so quickly. Those Kotaku comments though, man.

Fucking bullshit. objectivegamenerd.org only got an objectively 8 and now you give this a 10? This thread just lost a reader.

God damn it I've never owned a figurine (as an adult) but I really want that Yotsuba. OMG the water pistol pose. If only you could give her the trenchcoat and fedora. -
Spelunky was divisive? Edit: The only GOTY picks that matter.
