It will be the cleanest theme park on Earth thanks to nerds gleefully complying with the combine on every corner telling them to pick up their trash.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

Maybe I'm dumb but I had to look up what the hell I was supposed to do with the ashen mist heart first time through. I tried to play completely blind but I couldn't connect the dots on that one.- 1284 replies

Holy Priceless Collection of Etruscan Snoods, Did You Guys Know About Hot Toys?!

That toilet is amazing. I think I'd be a bit too worried about getting my entrails anywhere near it, though. -
The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
BadHat replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
Was looking for some new proggy-but-not-overdone metal and these guys really hit the spot. The build-up just after 4 minutes is so good. More bands need to throw in some chunky bass chords every now and then. Swans is an interesting one. I really like their stuff on paper but it's a real chore to actually listen to. Whenever I put on the Seer I find myself in this weird, depressed haze about 30 minutes in and have to switch it off. It's something in how repetitious yet ominous it is in parts, I think. Normally I like that sort of thing in heavier music, but with Swans it just feels so... evil. (edit: why do I feel like I've made this exact post in this thread before.) I have a real sweet spot for this song, though. Shit yes, my fav of theirs. They have a new one coming out in... holy cow, next week! /gets hype -
It would be extremely painful... ... for YOOOOOU.

This is some good-ass janky-ass instru hip-hop/electronic/something. -
I guess I have the opposite problem to most people here in that I listen to a lot of contemporary stuff but still know fairly little of the classics (been meaning to fix that for a while, will definitely flick through this stuff later). So, here's some good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13GHLt0UgC0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDI4x7cU0zc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYN4I6YHCfA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4lj73FtJFQ I could go crazy and list a bunch of cool weird stuff that falls more under "nu-jazz" or whatever dumb term people are using now... and I will. I'll chuck em in spoilers so I don't clutter the thread up, but man I really love this stuff.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

The first part happened at E3 when they were demoing Assassin's Creed Black Flag. The second part I was actually remembering from another event.

Yeah, the VAs sold that shit hard, though. Even Menma with her whole squeeky moe thing. Ahh sorry, I just took it out since it wasn't important.

I'm more worried about missing the Far Cry 2 tie-in. Pre-order from Gamestop to receive exclusive in-game malaria!

Give it the 3 episode test, it's really good but I can imagine some people might have a problem with the presentation. Also watched Anohana finally and man I feel conflicted. I definitely enjoyed it, but I feel like the drama was way too heavy handed sometimes, like they were really trying to nail home the emotional gravitas at the expense of just telling a touching story. Like I don't really have a problem with hyper emotional characters, but at a certain point it just becomes grief porn, you know? The movie is total garbage, though. Zero progress or closure in the newly animated parts, and half of it is just reused clips from the show, as though it didn't already lean on flashbacks heavily enough. Is this a common thing with anime movies?

Anyone remotely space geeky should check out this Elite Dangerous alpha video :D!
BadHat replied to Dr Wookie's topic in Video Gaming
Are there multiple ships, and do they have their own interiors? Also I introduced this to someone and they want to know if you can amass a fleet ala the X games. -
Games?! Pah, forget that noise, I watch E3 for the hilarious fuck ups. Hoping for at least a couple of the following: - A game being "played" on stage siezes up in an obviously non-real time way. Bonus points if the VLC progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen. - More kids demoing products with insincere enthusiasm. The Kinect has already been done to death, why not have them demo the Rift? One of them gets carried away with the routine and walks clear off the stage. - More stiff suits making awkward banter while playing a versus game. Hoping to one-up last year's infamous rapey joke, one of them remarks that he just "holocausted the shit" out of someone. - Ubisoft, having tapped the well of annoying presenters, rigs a hologram of Jar Jar Binks to present all of their games. He is somehow 100% more racist than he already was in the prequels. - Konami does another press conference. Please, oh pretty please.

Watched the third movie recently, was so good to revisit that world and the way it messes with your expectations. The first half hour or so is super super fan service-y, and then... things happen.
-
They're connected to the same degree that Final Fantasy 7 is connected to 13-3.
-
As someone who played and completed Far Cry 3, who the fuck is Hurk again? Man I'd better pre-order so I can get some closure on that iconic character. Edit: Oh. Great.

Thanks for doing this video/write-up. I watched some combat stuff a while back and didn't find it particularly inspiring. This stuff is way more exciting to me. -
Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
BadHat replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Well, I decided to try something interesting with a new character, so I thought I'd try and complete a no bonfire run first time through... with a twist. I'm trying it with the WickfutENB graphics preset, which changes the lighting to be closer to pre-release footage. The most notable change is that dark areas are actually dark, in many cases pitch black without a torch. As if this weren't exciting enough, I decided it'd only be right to start as a deprived with no gift (also disabled the pre-order items because they're lame anyway). I've barely started and it's already pretty tense, but I love how carefully I have to consider my options, and how valuable every item I find feels. Ought to be fun... at least until I have to deal with the trek to Undead Crypt. Don't think so, not that I noticed anyway. This is the best. It's so specific, but does it even need to be? It's already sensitive enough to censor the "nig" out of every "knight".- 1284 replies

M&K all the way. Well, I bought the DLC only to discover that matchmaking is utterly borked on the Aussie data centre now. 90% of the time I try and get a match, regardless of playlist, it'll shove me into a non-Aus server with 200+ ping. This wouldn't be so frustrating if it was actually as a result of the player base dwindling, except most other players in these matches have high pings too, and when I mention it in chat it seems like most/all of them have queued from Aus. So, what the hell? If there was ever a better time to introduce a server browser...

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
BadHat replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Whoa, I had no idea this is what counter damage did. I always assumed it was the damage modifier for attacking someone after a parry. This changes everything. Halfway through my NG+ and enjoying it a lot. The game is just familiar enough now that I can make a plan of action to take on each zone/boss, but with just enough twists thrown in that I have to stay on guard. Something I'm not sure on: do the bosses gain any new attacks in NG+? I nearly had the Pursuer dead in the first encounter where the eagle drops him on the roof, then he busted out an attack I'd never seen before in all 20+ times I'd fought him in NG. He fired off a barrage of hex-looking spells that I wasn't quite able to roll through. Maybe it's just something he does in that encounter and not in his actual fight?- 1284 replies

Idle Thumbs 155: The Satisfaction of a Job Well Done

Playing FTL while I listen and found a Zoltan called Nick Breckon just as Nick was saying something really loud. Freaked me out for a second. -
Black Isle RPGs. I always want to commit to one but I can never quite stick the landing.

I honestly thought that was the actual solution to the puzzle (weighing down the bridge HL2 physics puzzle style) and tried dropping them all on there and walking off for a good ten minutes before I realised how dumb I was.

I've been in a bunch of matches where the dropship got destroyed. Usually on the receiving end. I didn't expect to like being in a titan so much, but last titan standing is actually loads of fun. Managing your shields, timing your powers so they don't get sucked up by a vortex shield, dodging behind a building just as they unleash said shield barrage, baiting them around a corner then dropping an electric cloud, all the while keeping an eye out for loose pilots who might jump on your roof and shoot out your convenient placed weak spot. Fun! Also, burst fire on the 40mm cannon is nuts.
