  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Last time I tried to read something by Liana K she was still referring to the 8chan fiasco as "anime child porn" so I just closed it out of frustration. If she's that misinformed about it when the original article was so fucking specific, then her opinion is worth dick squat to me.
  2. Half-Life 3

Good lord. Imagine HL3 with a powerful, easily modded Source engine and good VR support. Imagine the mods.
  3. Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

Oh, he wrote that WWWGC piece! I guess I liked him already. /follows
  4. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Chrome Sparks' new EP is great stuff. I thought it was kind of dull at first but it really grew on me. (video is pretty NSFW)
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It's time to talk about the real tragedy: this shit has ruined my youtube recommendations forever. Elsewhere, TotalBiscuit says things, decreases faith in humanity. "Who doesn't want diversity? I can't think of a single person!" *hides gamergate in attic Anne Frank style*

Yeah but it'd be hella awkward when her and Mary Kish both turned up to UPF in zero suits.
  7. I won't believe that's a fake until I see a sanctimonious guy on an acoustic guitar singing "god hates a bronto."
  8. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

That largely depends what you're into! Here's a few general recommendations. https://theflashbulb.bandcamp.com/album/soundtrack-to-a-vacant-life https://caspiantheband.bandcamp.com/album/waking-season http://shop.hammockmusic.com/album/chasing-after-shadows-living-with-the-ghosts And since you mentioned video game music, I'll just link this as I haven't played this game in months and I'm still listening to this. https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/album/risk-of-rain
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I mean, the guy left in charge fully buys into the "cultural marxism" bullshit. Was responsible from sourcing the "[male] game developers talk about gamergate" directly from GG/4chan. So... yeah, not surprised. ... Does anyone still cringe internally whenever they type out "gamergate"? I mean... fucking gamergate. How did that even happen.

I miss that he was always 100% honest in his reactions to things, and that both sides of that reaction were hilarious. Someone cracks a terrible joke, he gives that resigned "goddamnit... uggggghhhhhhh." Like you could feel his dissatisfaction. On the other side of the coin, he had the best, most infectious laugh. Legitimately my favourite laugh out of anyone (edit - oh man, faux pas). Including . I was looking for something completely different but here's this anyway because it's great. Edit: Brad losing it is amazing too.

Haha. I checked out Wardell's twitter feed to see what was going on with him chasing down criticism and saw he recently retweeted this. https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/568601258921054208 Sounded kind of familiar and then I remembered that this was posted to KiA about 5 hours before he said that. https://i.imgur.com/gttaDou.png Like this would be kind of cute if it was just an isolated incident, but it has been truly bizarre watching TB go deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole of parroting practically every GG talking point (usually on the same day it's circulated on KiA or some other GG hub) while """""""""staying neutral"""""""""" this whole time. The guy lectures people on rejecting labels, reading broadly, and trying to have nuanced opinions, but so many of his positions are regurgitated directly from the GG/MRA/angry internet man hivemind that the sentiment is rendered meaningless. The only notable difference is he doesn't use the term "SJW," presumably because he knows a tad more about public image than the average internet shithead and realises it makes him sound silly and out of touch.

I suspect a lot of it has to do with a combination of Ryan's presence and the intimacy of GB's stuff. You always felt Ryan as much as you heard or saw him, he was always the biggest presence in the room. At the same time, it's way easier to connect with him than someone like Robin Williams because there's much less of a wall between you. Ryan is just a dude behind a microphone or a camera speaking his mind, and he just happened to have a gift for projecting himself across the airwaves (or, uhh... internet waves). I keep hearing these sentence mortar type phrases out of GB people now that I'm watching frequently again and can't unhear them. Couple more I just remembered - Dan inserting "to where" into every other sentence, same with Patrick and "in which." (Noticed Pats before he left but I still watch his video stuff.)
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Just gonna repost this in case anyone needs some levity, because man that is depressing. (Also depressing: KiA are spinning "I nearly committed suicide" as "I'm a precious snowflake who can't handle criticism," because they're terrible.)

Quick aside: I want to do a survey of how many sentences Jeff begins with "it's one of those things where..." I'm pretty sure it'd be a good 20-30%, easy. Edit: Sorry to anyone who can't unhear this now.
  15. anime

Thanks for the recommendations. I've actually seen most of those already but I'd meant to get around to Tatami Galaxy, so I'll give that a look.

Oh no. I was wondering how that kid would react to that if he was around. This video is the first time I've heard Jeff laughing so much in a good while. Not that anything will ever top this -

He's also, by some accounts, hilariously incompetent. The only game I'm bummed about is Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which looks genuinely pretty cool. I even agree with the lead dev that some of the outcry it received (female characters being a kickstarter stretch goal) might have been misplaced, but his attitude about the whole thing is just generally kind of horrible. (Well, maybe I'm being unfair, let's check his twitter f-- nope still a shit.)
  18. The Last Guardian

Third time... PS3... year of the PS3... Oh my god! The Last Guardian is Frog Fractions 3!
  19. I have to admit that's kind of shitty from a consumer standpoint, especially when the game isn't even a year old (!!), but I was holding off on this to try out the supposedly excellent DLC and I don't altogether hate the idea of a player base purge to come in fresh again...
  20. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Having only played 4's demo, I'm gonna say probably nah. You have to really be into the Core Gameplay Loop™ to get anything substantive out of MH, because it's just going to be that spread out over (maybe) hundreds of hours, and 4's seems largely identical to 3's. The metagame stuff might be cooler and more expansive, but ultimately that stuff isn't The Game, and it either clicks with you or it doesn't. That said, it's one of those games I'd normally advise people to put some decent time into before making up their mind on it, if they think there's any glimmer of hope that it'll be their thing. So it depends on how much of a chance you gave 3 I guess? Thanks for this, my main problem with the on-screen camera was how far I had to reach over with my thumb to turn left. If I can just move it right and make it smaller that'd make it a ton more usable.
  21. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Oh hey there's a thread on this. Anyone playing without a cirlce pad or New 3DS stick? How tolerable is it? I tried the demo but I couldn't figure out how to use the on-screen camera control properly and there's no way in hell I'm doing the claw. I'll probably order a CPP eventually but is it worth picking this up in the mean time if I'm used to playing Tri with a pro controller?
  22. Nintendo 3DS

Hey I've been playing this crazy little game called Fire Emblem Awakening. You guys heard of it? It's pretty good. Currently debating whether I want to fork out to get a circle pad pro shipped over to play Monster Hunter 4. No way in hell I'm playing without a right stick after cutting my teeth on MH Tri.

Danswers is a pretty great listen. I think it humanizes Dan a lot, but I also think it benefits massively from having Danny there to check some of his more... folk wisdom-y views. Like, their chemistry is great, and they never act condescending to one another, but Danny never seems to hesitate to interject with "well yes, but maybe also this" whenever Dan is starting to come across as too absolute. But anyway FUCK OPINIONS the new Demo Derby is out which is THE BEST FEATURE so excuse me while I leave my misgivings at the door and go enjoy myself unequivocally. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/demo-derby-official-playstation-magazine-issue-85/2300-9944/ Edit: 3 minutes in and this is already hilarious. <3 Jeff.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Just watched the first episode of that and yes, yes I do believe I will be following it. I also watched Over the Garden Wall on you wonderful people's advice. What a terrifically enchanting show, holy crap.
