  1. That's awesome for you! Was there a worry that your family would be negative?

There were certain parts of my dad's family I had concerns about, they're a lot more conservative than mom's side. Dad  himself I was unsure about even, but they all really seemed accepting so that was a good surprise.

  2. I'm making it happen. My twitter leaked out to a friend of my sister and well 2 weeks of a gossipy family later I'm publicly out as Transgender. Its a huge sigh of relief for me really and I wish I'd done it sooner, as all of my family and friends have been great so far. Trying to book a hormone assessment soon which my mother is going to help pay for, and my step-sister knows someone who does Laser really cheap so I'm all over that.

  3. Yah, agents of SHIELD got enjoyable once WInter Soldier hit and the big plot twister that revealed

Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD up to the highest levels and Fury and Cap decide to burn it all down and start over.

Huge gamechanger for the show, but they were kind of put in a situation where they had to wait for that movie to happen.

Also Bill Paxton is in most episodes of the back-half of that season and Kyle MacLachlan and Lucy Lawless are becoming recurring characters this season. I am hopeful.

  4. Yeah I mean there is some reasonable argument to keep games journalism subjective but expand the range of sources you look at so as to not get caught in a zeitgeist in bad faith (ie everyone likes it so I must like it). But it manifests itself in really weird ways, like people who just don't like a certain kind of game making an objective value system based on their own. If you can say "these games are objectively bad, how can they succeed?", your next conclusion is "cronyism!"

For the longest time I insisted LOMA games were all terrible because they were all evolved from Warcraft 3 which was a huge disappointment to me, a WC2 fan.  I was pretty rancorous about it for ages.

And then I downloaded DOTA 2 to spectate and maybe get some idtems sometime before The International this year and got hooked. People are really good at establishing boundaries they ABSOLUTELY HATE.

  5. Heh, I'm just free driving, so I'm avoiding these stuff. Went from Detroit to Miami, Miami to LA, La to Seattle... The variation in the scenery is pretty great.

Just realized that The Crew is made by the same studio that worked on Driver San Francisco. That was a pretty good game with a surprisingly great writing, best racing game by far on last gen.

I THOUGHT it felt familiar, especially the way the hands were moving on the wheel in first person. I drove Detroit to Seattle and then down the west coast before bed.

  6. Just a reminder that baldy is literally a domestic violence creep who went to court for beating his ex and got away with it with a self-defence plea. No denial he did it, and has since tweeted ~jokes~ about beating women basically daily.

There is no amount of mockery for this festering turd on canada's ass that is too much.

  7. I deeply regretted the time I took to play Watchdogs, the story didn't pay off at all and Aiden was basically a non-character despite it all being based on his pathos. Really weird. He is condemned to the same abyss as Connor the assassin for the sequel it sounds like but why would I even play that. I'd love to be proved wrong and have a vastly superior second game like they did with AC, but man, not feeling hopeful.

Still going to play the shit out of Far Cry 4 and hope it isn't TOO racist.

  8. Frustrated right now. Vancouver is a great place for trans resources..but only if you're a city resident. Suburbs are excluded from all the things run by the 'Vancouver Coastal Health Authority' as far as I can tell :< Trying to figure out what's available in my particular suburb is a pain, they don't seem to have a great website like the Trans Health program at VCH

  9. I'm sure this has been mentioned already, but I'm really enjoying Tim Schafer's responses to people getting mad at him for tweeting about the latest Feminist Frequency video. He's basically just calling them out for their idiocy. This is the kind of thing I've long dreamed of. I hope other high-profile male developers get in on this action. Someone like Cliffy B, maybe. Although I know he's said some... questionable stuff before, but man. Can you imagine the backlash if he openly supported Feminist Frequency? Or fucking Gabe Newell? We get enough dudes in the press doing it already, and it's clear that the anti-feminism crowd think the press are fighting against the developers for whatever stupid reason. It's time for developers to prove them wrong. C'moooooon please.

It's not gaming but Joss Whedon will surely do right? :D This is so satisfying, watching nerds heads explode at the audacity of someone to not hate women

  10. I dunno, it's a pretty far stretch from Investment to Patreon in my mind.  Should they just start disclosing everything they like at the end of every article.

(Full Disclosure: this poster was watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on Netflix at the time of writing, something she pay $10 a month for)

  11. I feel like that's the difference between being a person (albeit a commodified celebrity person) and being a corporation. A person is allowed to have their own beliefs that they put into their own products, but most corporations try studiously not to have any beliefs, even though the lack of belief is clearly becoming a belief all its own, because beliefs inhibit profit. Incidentally, that's a big part of why corporate personhood is so silly, because it removes the veil.

But Kim Kardashian: Hollywood was made by a corporation, Glu Mobile. Kim just gave them a license to her name rights  and my understanding is they reskinned an existing hollywood game!

  12. Hah, one of the creators is the dude who started arguing with forum member Lacabra on Twitter, mostly by ignoring that the attacks on ZQ has anything to do with misogyny.

And one of those guys? Went to court for beating his girlfriend. The right wing Alberta judge let him off on Self Defense, but he definitely beat her. Lovely.

  13. Are there any podcasts similar to Idle Thumbs in that they're not afraid to joke around, but with more of a focus on game design/development? Also, I don't mind incredibly long casts.

They don't goof around as much but an old schoolmate of mine hosts the fairly new cast Up Up Down Down. His partner on the show worked at Radical from the DOS days right up to before Prototype 2 so he has a ton of knowledge, and they have a lot of really good developer guests on as well. A bit of an Apple slant at times (Allen used to work for them and they are iOS-primary developers in their current dayjob) but its not too bad most of the time. http://www.upup.fm/

  14. Dark Dungeons is the shit. $5 well spent for a DRM free HD download of a sweet movie adaptation of bad Christian anti-d&d comics :D It is played straight for the most part with a few dialogue references (something about attacking gazebos at one point, for example), but with really hammy performances all around.

  15. So I've been signed up a while but didn't really post. I've had an account before that was equally underused but I feel like with recent extremism in gaming communities the Idle Forums would be a cool place to chill. I've had a few questions read on the cast over the last year or so under my male birth name but am coming out as trans so you can guess why I don't feel SUPER comfortable in  places where that shit gets mocked a lot (4chan, reddit, sadly now Something Awful). Anyway I'm out in Vancouver Canada and I've babbled enough. Peace. Also have this weird thing: http://www.amazon.com/Once-Lifetime-Go-Board-Single/dp/B00CQZ8D8I/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1405078119&sr=1-2# It's a Go Board that has been made over 20 years using rare wood that takes 10 years to dry. $100,000
