  1. I was completely into it, and I'm actually kind of glad I didn't skip the terrible stuff because that made it even more amazing. Diluted versus uncut Lynch indeed.
  2. This is the first episode where fidgety displeasure gave way to a lot of baffled, incredulous laughter. I'm very tempted to barrel through to the end now. Glad I have the podcast and the movie to look forward to. How about that "stretchy latex glove" foley?
  3. This was a great episode of the cast for enthusiastic and insightful discussion of a thing you both really enjoy, and for Jake and Chris doing voices. I'm still laughing at the bits about Jacques. And now the cast is caught up with my initial binge, which ended here. Hooray!
  4. Jurassic World: Wasting away in Margaritaville

  5. Yup. It is on Audible, however, should the Thumbs wish to tie it into the next ad read.
  6. Solaris was recently translated directly from Polish to English for the first time: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2011/jun/15/first-direct-translation-solaris
  7. Twin Peaks Rewatch 1: Pilot

Since the most elegant solution here is probably just 'use an app and pause', I'm going to assume those who would most benefit from split episodes are listening in a browser or can't easily reach the pause button. If it's the former, you can try Pocket Casts, which will save/sync your progress from its browser version, but you have to buy the app first.
  8. I enjoyed the brief and unexpected detour into book talk. Will check it out.
  9. I'm watching Twin Peaks for the first time and this is the episode where it really hooked and surprised me. The entire rock-throwing scene, the sublime comic timing of Cooper's nose grab, the incredible dream sequence. Just great.
  10. Spelunky!

Derek Yu is writing a book about the Great Game: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gabedurham/boss-fight-books-season-2
  11. The Idle Book Club 2: Cloud Atlas

The Bone Clocks is out, everyone.
  12. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

  13. KeLo sounds like the name of an incidental Achewood character. Someone who would be on Ray's record label.
  14. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Down for the gritty reboot with a new theme, new books, but the same old attitude: Book Club. Or quickly discuss as many books as you can and audibly toss the ones you didn't enjoy, like this guy: http://www.daserste.de/information/wissen-kultur/druckfrisch/sendung/topten-100.html
  15. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

I also read this, finally, on account of the cast's purported return. I really liked it. It kept surprising me and by the end I had to abandon my preconceptions of Hemingway.
  16. Books, books, books...

Goodreads is a great "book Facebook" but anyone reading this who hasn't visited LibraryThing should give it a look. It's more of a database than a social site but I love its clean design and the recommendations it gives are phenomenal.
  17. GDC '14: With Tom Francis

More tinfoil: I think this is the first time they've skipped an episode number after losing one. (not counting podblasts, which I know have never been numbered) But yeah, reading too far into this is starting to make me feel bad. The only reasons I can think of for holding it back are super improbable, and on this cast and the next they sound so bummed about it. Stuff breaks and it sucks.
  18. We3 is great. I was reminded of it too. "There's a Newbery award-winning children's book about him." Best. I disproportionately enjoyed this.
  19. This episode's front page tagline and summary are the best.
  20. Idle Thumbs Book Club - Did I miss a hiatus annoucement?

Unfortunately, there hasn't been any talk here or on the podcasts about it coming back. I think it's fair to say everyone involved has had an extraordinarily busy year, and I imagine it demands more of everyone's time than other casts. I miss it, though. Each one definitely added to my enjoyment of each book, and nudged me towards good ones I may never have read otherwise. Thanks, guys!
  21. So this is ending soon. The books will have forewords and a sixth one is being voted on by backers.
