"...then join the Police Force! We don't care." (Sorry, it's just that halfway through it started sounding like one of those late-night TV ads for, like... ITT Tech or DeVry or something.)

Are those prices per piece of equipment? Or per officer? Or is it like a subscription model? I hope its closer to the former, because it worries me that for the cost of one month of rent 25 people could be reasonably armed for a year.

Man... the chat on that website... yuck. Like holy shit. Its worse than the Twitch chat.

Wow. I had no idea this was going on at all. It's horrible.
  5. Books, books, books...

So, since I started going to the library here I've been reading a lot more. -"Black List" by Brad Thor: It was alright. Supposed to be a thriller with a sort of paranoid "the-government-is-always-watching-you" type of theme... but of course it doesn't matter because the main character is the greatest soldier ever in the world and no one can stop him just because. -"Six Years" by Harlan Coben. I liked it, but it had its dumb moments. The main character's ex made him promise he would leave her alone when she gets married to someone else, then he sees the obituary for her husband. When he tries to reach her to offer his condolences, she is nowhere to be found and the dead man had another family who knew nothing. It was an interesting read, but there were times where I just got annoyed at the protagonist. He is expending all this time and effort trying to find her, and talks constantly about how much he loved her, but then in the same sentence insists he's not obsessed with her and just loves her... Maybe the point of it was that he actually was but was in denial? It just felt uncomfortable to me. -"Odd Apocalypse" by Dean Koontz. Another one of the Odd Thomas books (number 5, I believe). The first one was great, the 2nd was alright, and then the 3rd and 4th were pretty forgettable, in my opinion. This one, however, I will not be forgetting any time soon. Now, the series started with a fry cook who could see ghosts. That was about it, it was all pretty simple and not that weird. This one has crazy pig beasts, portals... its all over the place with weird shit. It was better than the 3rd and 4th Odd Thomas books, but still not that great. The first is still the best of the series in my opinion. -"Scarecrow Returns" by Matthew Reilly. It's big, dumb action in a small, dumb paperback. I loved it. Although it had a pretty disturbing torture scene that bothered more than any one found in any movie or game. I can't really explain why it bothered me more than others I've seen in other media, but something about it just really rubbed me the wrong way and made me feel weird about it. (Also, do not read this book if random deus ex machina type things bother you.) -"On Writing" by Stephen King. One part autobiography with one part guide to writing, it was a really interesting read. I used to like writing stories when I was younger and stopped, but this book had me considering getting back into it. I enjoyed it very much.

    Yay Canada Post...
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

I just checked the mail and saw I had a catalogue from Ikea. I got excited about it. I feel old.
  9. Well, I got a PS2 instead of an XBox because I wanted to be able to play the Metal Gear Solid games.
  10. So wait, I'm confused. Is this going to be an exclusive? Or an "exclusive"?
  11. When I was younger my parents computer came with a flight stick. I used that thing for every game I could. Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Tonic Trouble... it was a terrible way to control those games, but that just made it more fun to weird little-kid me.

Definitely a sad day. RIP Robin Williams.
  13. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Well, there are ones you can't breed (IIRC) and I would imagine the god Pokemon would be one of those.
  14. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I somehow managed to finish both of them. (Spoiler warning: They didn't get any better after those first 2 minutes)
  15. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Yeah, but the PETA games sucked.

All of this Pokemon talk has gotten me thinking... if these games used either people or real animals, they would be the most disgusting, disturbing things ever. Just imagine, you have a small army of people you keep locked away, taking a small crew of them with you when you travel. Then you make them fight to the point of utter exhaustion, bringing them to a hospital when you need to. Then, because some of them are genetically inferior, you bring them to a little farm area and force them to breed until they have an offspring you consider strong enough to train to fight for you. THEN you keep breeding that one to get one with even better genetics, all while secretly hoping the baby is an albino. It's madness. Or just replace "people" or "Pokemon" with dogs and its pretty obvious how terrible this is. And yet we're all okay with it because they're cute little animals that don't show any actual signs of being hurt and never very rarely die. ...I don't care though, I gotta catch em all!
  17. The Idle Thumbs Store

...holy moley, you were not kidding. If I didn't already know what they did, that image search would have convinced me they were some sort of pornography company. Geeze.

  19. Recently completed video games

I mean, I didn't have much of a problem playing the first Broken Sword on my GBA, so I think it would take some real problems for it to be an issue on Vita. (On the other hand I played that game as a dumb kid so I probably didn't notice/care about problems playing it that way... ) EDIT: Then again I played "Warlocked" (an RTS on the Game Boy Color) with no problems, so maybe I've always been very forgiving of control issues...
  20. Even cooler is, when you get gifted some it shows exactly how much server time was covered by that gift. One month of Reddit Gold is approximately 231 minutes of server time for the website.
  21. The Idle Broadcasts Thread

    Nah, they're all pretty idle.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

Last night I watched "Big Trouble in Little China". It has definitely broken into my Top 5 Favorite Movies.

Eh, I'd wait until after work.

So I actually downloaded and tried it out. Keeping in mind that I've never played a Wing Commander game, or even X-Wing or TIE Fighter or any of those old PC space-combat type games. It seems pretty fun, but I really should have printed out (or copied down in a notebook or something) the control reference card. I basically had no idea what I was doing when I eventually got into my ship and started flying around. Luckily I had taken a quick glance at it earlier and had remembered which buttons controlled the throttle, otherwise I wouldn't have even made it out of the hanger... I ended up having to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it because I couldn't figure out how to exit the game (which, again, was on the reference card, Alt-X). I enjoyed the cutscene stuff (but then I'm kind of a sucker for old FMV scenes in games...) and I look forward to making more progress, but that definitely won't be happening without the list of controls easily accessible in front of my face.
  25. ...and then saw Microsoft get hated on so they could slip the news in without much in the way of bad feelings because "At least its not as bad as what Microsoft is doing!"
