  1. Can't play online mode at the moment kind of sucks. Oh, i also just fought my first boss!!! quick note (potential spoiler sort of thing) if you destroy a wooden chest i'm pretty sure it turns what ever is inside into rubbish.
  2. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Often times I consider how Kaitlin would react, a la Booker DeWitt, to Sam's story...
  3. Just picked up my copy. I watched a few reviews (Polygon, Rev3) and so far the reception seems positive, but I still have this deep seeded fear that it will hurt me...
  4. Tone Control 9: JONATHAN BLOW :o

I am so, unbelievably excited for this. I wish my damned pc wasn't busted
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

It's the problem with an iterative formula, in this example a TV series. You continually have to out due your last season, which itself ended with "what is the most world shattering event we can have these characters experience". Season 3 may have not been as strong as the previous seasons, but I think its a long ways away from being as bad as people have been claiming. Their main problem going forward will be their choice in villains and drawing continued inspiration from post "The Final Problem" stories which were slim enough pickings before Magnussen (originally, Milverton) (also, as someone who hated "The Adventure of C.A. Milverton" I absolutely loved his portrayal in Season 3).
  6. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Goddamn that was an amazing song. I have to watch that movie at some point.
  7. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Do you think you'll need gold to play online? You didn't for DS1... Also I have shitty wifi in my room (where my xbox is) I really didn't want to have to buy it for 360... This is all really upsetting news :'(

  9. I loved the introduction of malaria in Far Cry 2, and I think it is one of the most important opening segments of any video game I've played. The opening minutes of a game should prepare a player for their impending experience and Far Cry 2 does that in spades. Far Cry 2 seemed to me, to be a lesser experiment in setting a game in a world subject to the chaos theory (or a close proximity of). You have choices all the time in FC2 (the game opens with you choosing which character to play) but hardly any choice you make is unaffected by chaos, or has much actual impact (with obvious exception). You can plan an encounter for hours but your experience will always be subject to this chaos. This is why the introduction of the game was so important, it taught me that (1) certain things were out of my control (2) random shit would happen to me and (3) I would have to deal with that shit, or die. This is why I think Dark Souls was an apt comparison; the tutorial level of ds teaches the player how to exist in their world, and whether or not you were able to get through it (though dark souls' difficult was primarily a question of impatience, as you can almost always predict what will happen next). Both used their introductions to give me the context to enjoy myself. Games that are 'difficult' generally are just games with deviated design that do their best to teach the player the differences in their world. I don't think this is a failure only the "enlightened" can accept, I think it is one of the most successful introductions to a game lost on an industry looking for another Call of Duty 4. Edit: Sorry for any grammatical errors, I wrote this almost entirely asleep
  10. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

They must have snuck a peak into our on goings. They hit it on the head!
  11. I Had A Random Thought...

fuck you only because I will take every opportunity for impunative vulgarity
  12. Feminism

So i know the current discussion is pretty important in regards to Feminism... but there's something I thought should be shared... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WtxVh1D0E1g found through an article on Polygon (linked below) which questions whether or not this is celebratory or offensive (worth a read before discourse). http://www.polygon.com/2014/1/29/5351298/is-ultimate-gay-fighter-funny-or-just-offensive yeah. so there's also this.
  13. Feminism

This is by far the most important part of this argument for me. Personally, I'm not looking for any one person's blood in this situation which is emblematic of something much worse I want to be able to address. Instead Mattingly attempted to rationalize his actions and has blockaded us from the real conversation. It is by definition, rationalization. It doesn't make your actions any more right but your mind uses these excuses to protect itself from any real self-analysis. It is the mentality of children and addicts, and though Mattingly does need help, he doesn't deserve sympathy, which is what he was looking for*** with his apology. ***This sympathy may not be from the public, but from himself, he is apologizing in a way which makes him see himself as the victim. ---Edited for abrasion---
  14. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

So, I was absolutely depressed because of a topic currently being discussed in the Feminism thread, but this made me smile wider than I have in a long time. Thank you, to everyone who helped fund this. Thank you, to all of the artists who provided their time and ideas Thank you Subbes for being committed enough to have this all happen. This community is outstanding, and I love that you are willing to thank the Thumbs with such devotion. edit: also, in regards to my earlier comments about 'Congrats Nick' I was very much so joking. Can't wait to see what you all make for him.
  15. Feminism

This is repulsive. What, the absolute, fuck.
  16. Games giveaway

I have an extra copy of Frozen Synapse, but i'd sort of like Trade. I am especially eager to play Godus if anyone has a copy.
  17. Relaxing games recommendations

Godus. It's relaxing. It's creative. And best of all, it tells its players to create their own community, and just live in it. It's like civ minus the constant threat of erratic cultures and barbarians.
  18. Plug your shit

I like it, but I think there is still some issues with the ground texture you're using. Especially now with the low-res foliage, it is very polarizing.
  19. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I would argue that the saddest story is Siegmeyer.
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

I feel there are numerous words that are given bad raps due to the traditional use in our culture (ie; Epic & Awesome). I suppose Swag isn't all that awful, and could potentially serve a decent use in our language (outside of that whole Justin Beiber thing).
  21. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

The increase in Breckon apologists is concerning. Don't forget what he's done to us!
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

    Never change Zeus
  23. Film editing software suggestions

I used to use a combination of Sony Vegas and Adobe After Effects, though as stated, it is almost entirely based on personal preference.
