  1. WJ5 Team Seeking

What I'm doing: I am an illustrator. I can do 2D backgrounds and character design/animation. I do a pretty good walk cycle. I prefer to do 8-bit or 16-bit, but I can work in other styles too. I can do also help with writing/story if that helps! Contact Info: Email is [email protected] and Slack is steinersteiner. Time Zone: Eastern US time (-0500 UTC) Portfolio: petersteiner.xyz I've toodled around in GameMaker before, but never completed a game. I've also worked with the Processing IDE. I only mention that to say that I understand development at a high level, but I'm not a developer in any sense. 2. Holy smokes that looks amazing. What is the name of that manga? And did you notice the weird ghost face on the kitty's back in the first panel? That manga reminds me of The Drifting Classroom by Kazuo Umezu. It's about an elementary school that gets teleported to a post-apocolyptic wasteland, and things go off the rails pretty much immediately. Actually, it would be a good premise for a creepy resource management game, now that I think of it.
  3. Idle Thumbs 177: The Good Ones

Here's a good video of Gang Beasts, from Giant Bomb. It looks hilarious. Can we get an Idle Thumbs stream for the love of dog?!
  4. Steam Curation!

    Don't forget: Dishonored Idle Thumbs
  5. Idle Thumbs 177: The Good Ones

Y: The Last Man comes to mind. I believe there are a few flashback scenes where Agent 355 is being trained by an older woman agent, the previous Agent 355. But that's a pretty minor plot point. What was the name of that Japanese indie game Dark Souls/Metroidvania? That sounded cool. Anyone played it?
  6. Breaking Madden

Has anybody been following Breaking Madden, by Jon Bois on SBNation? It's kind of fantastic. I'm not into sports games, but Bois makes a very irreverent and insightful critique on the Madden franchise. The Super Bowl episode from last year is a good entry point. http://www.sbnation.com/2014/1/30/5351052/breaking-madden-super-bowl-broncos-seahawks Bois basically takes Madden and pushes the settings to their limits to see how the game handles itself. For the Super Bowl he makes one team of supermen players with all traits at maximum (size, speed, strentgh, etc.) and one team with all players at the minimum. He pretty quickly runs up against the limits of what the simulation can handle. It's a good read. Anybody into this as much as me?
  7. This Polygon article is sort of confusing, but the comments section is good deep dive on why Microsoft would spend $2.5 B on Mojang, from a finance/accounting perspective. http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/15/6153497/microsoft-minecraft-2-billion-deal
  8. What is the Justin McElroy thing they keep talking about? Toasted? Toast 'em? Can somebody link it? Thx!
  9. New people: Read this, say hi.

Idle Thumbs is without a doubt my favorite radio show/podcast. After hearing about that amazing Jake Rodkin painting, I wanted to get involved on the forums. As a kid, spending money on video games never seemed appropriate to me. I had about 60 Nintendo games, but the vast majority of them were hand-me-downs when my friends upgraded to 16-bit. Along with a few SNES games, i played those 8-bit games all the way into the new millenium. Ten years later, I discovered Idle Thumbs, I bought a PS3 to play Far Cry 2, and I realized how much I'd been missing. Now, after a lifetime of not buying games, I routinely go on PS3 shopping sprees on ebay. So basically Idle Thumbs is the monkey's paw. Huzzah! P
