  1. Life

Goddamn dude, I'm sorry. I can't stand people who think giving people a hard time about trivial shit is funny.
  2. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

I didn't want to be a tattle-tale but... I saw Chris in this thread more than once.
  3. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

It would be the best if someone updated the "Video Games" Wikipedia page to show this.
  4. Conspiracy; Open your eyes sheeple

The other day I was wondering where the abbreviation O.K. came from and what it stood for. When I Googled it I discovered that it partially came from Martin van Buren's nickname. Since Martin van Buren is a great great great great great great grand uncle of mine (my mother's maiden name is van Buren) I have always been mildly interested whenever I hear his name come up so I clicked a link and started reading about him. Then I discovered a great conspiracy that rocked the foundations of my belief system: Martin van Buren was born exactly 202 years before I was down to the day; 2+0+2=4; my daughter is four years old and she has a brother who will be 1 this year; 4-1=3; Half-Life 3 confirmed.
  5. Feminism

http://kotaku.com/she-was-harassed-by-a-games-reporter-now-shes-speakin-1510714971 That was a depressing read. And then I took a look at the comments and... what the fuck is wrong with people??? I don't know how anyone could read that and come to the conclusion that she is being oversensitive or in the wrong in any way whatsoever. I'm generally an optimist but seriously this situation is so fucked up.
  6. InFAMOUS Vanaman

I own the first game but still haven't played it. After watching that trailer though I kind of want to see what this series is all about. Looks fun.
  7. Relaxing games recommendations

I'm sure nobody would be surprised to hear me say this but Minecraft seems like it might fit the bill. Also, maybe Cart Life?
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

But seriously, watch Moving Art. It's fantastic. Also, Beverly Hills Ninja is the Citizen Kane of movies.
  9. Video Game mechanics to retire

I'll second this. There have been many a game where I ended up getting more into one of the side activities than the main game itself. 60+ hours of Blitzball in FFX is an embarrassing example of this.
  10. Video Game mechanics to retire

Same reason we can't reach down and pick up our own feet to make ourselves levitate: because it would make the universe implode.
  11. I Had A Random Thought...

None of this changes the fact that it's a stupid word and I hate it. At least I'm a little more educated now so there's that.

Regenerating health If you are a futuristic marine with a regenerating shield, that is one thing. But if you are a soldier fighting in World War 2, you should not be able to take a bullet in the chest and then sit behind a rock for a few seconds before popping back up and taking another bullet in the chest. But I suppose going back to having magical band-aids that heal all imaginable gunshot wounds isn't much better. Maybe what I really want is for games to stop being about an entire enemy force solely going after the player because they know the player is the only one with elvish healing powers.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

It kind of reminds me of when people started referring to everyone else as "dog". It was so strange to see a term that would have previously been considered derogatory become a term of endearment in such a short period of time. I wonder if we will eventually go through a phase where we all just call each other "fucker".
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

What the fuck does "swag" mean exactly? I am finding myself increasingly annoyed every time I hear that stupid term. "Oh, I backed a game on kickstarter and I got some sweet swag." So someone hocked a tuberculosis riddled loogie in a bag and gave it to you as a gift for backing their game? Sounds like a perfect reward for contributing funds to a game. I, for one, don't ever want a swag bag unless it was some kind of reward straight from Dr. Seuss.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

You caught me. I was just trying to get everyone on here to go watch this new series where people's farts are recorded and played back in slow motion to a Clint Mansell soundtrack. (Now that I think about it I would totally watch that. I think I'm broken.)
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

I just discovered this series on Netflix called "Moving Art". Each one is about 25 minutes of nature footage with incredible music accompanying the whole thing. The whole series is just so goddamn beautiful.
  17. anime

It is a pretty great DBZ movie. A good mix of silliness mixed with some badassery here and there.
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

It was a rhetorical post. Please, for the sake of everyone else here don't egg me on.Edit: Goddamn Ucantalas, that is some superb one-upsmanship. I'll just say you win and leave it at that.
  19. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

What better way to make sure kids are playing safe than by reminding them of their own mortality every time they go down the slide?
  20. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

    I stand corrected.
  21. Candy Land... Probably my most played game of 2013. (Sadly, I am not being sarcastic at all.)
  22. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

He has it in the movies but I don't recall hearing about it in the books. I could be wrong though. It's been awhile since I read them at this point and some of those small details escape me.
  23. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I am very calmly raging thank you very much. The Tolkien universe is very near and dear to my heart and my brain just has a hard time accepting a story about a dude having magical Nazghul powers. Edit: And let it be known that I am not claiming my complaints to be rational at all. It's just like, my opinion man.
  24. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I don't think I recall hearing a single mention of a shield anywhere in The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, or Lord of the Rings. They just blocked shit with their swords I guess. This game makes me kind of sad. Sure it might be a decent game but I hate to see Middle Earth getting bastardized with supplemental stories and characters that never existed in any of the original Tolkien works. I'm not necessarily opposed to taking some artistic liberties on already established characters and stories but I just don't see the point of creating entirely new shit when there is still plenty of untapped potential from the books (maybe not The Silmarillion though if Chris Tolkien still has a say). I'm probably being a stupid nerd fanboy with this but after seeing the damage done to the Star Wars franchise over the years I'm a bit apprehensive.
  25. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I totally agree on the music. Even with the small amount of content I've seen so far I have found that the music is probably the best out of any of the LEC games I've played at this point. And I know I already said it once but goddamn that banjo segment was awesome. Fuck Guitar Hero, I want Banjo Hero now. And to add just a little bit more to my perception of the game, I think I've reached a point where all of my initial apprehension regarding the art style and voicework is gone. This game looks and feels pretty damn good and I think I'm okay with it ditching the aesthetic of the older games now.
