Under normal circumstances, I think I would have been able to make it but my wife is pretty sick and it looks like I'll be on kid duty all day. I might be on here and there during the day and then hopefully for a few hours later in the evening.
-
I can't guarantee whether I can make it at that time or not. If I can, I'll make sure to give anyone who's online a heads up.

Aren't we basically to a point now where we have the means to prevent asteroids from hitting us? I could have sworn I heard somewhere that we are able to detect them far enough in advance that we could intersect them and nudge them away from a collision course.

I think you did a great job of editing everything together. It sounded natural and I was able to pretty clearly hear everyone. -
Yeah, sorry I got a little snappy. When it comes to parenting, there's a whole lot of people always ready to chime in trying to tell you what you're doing wrong. I don't think you necessarily meant it that way but my patience is short when it comes to people trying to point out what I'm doing wrong. The thing that sucks about it is that I'm fully aware of what I do as a parent that isn't necessarily the "right" or "best" thing to do but despite trying my hardest, shit just doesn't always work the way it is supposed to. It is crazy how different things are with our second child. That was the biggest wake up call that really hammered home how much each one is a unique miniature human. You would think they would just all be blank slates but pretty much from day one we noticed that he had his own unique personality and different needs and wants from his sister. Another complicating factor that I never seem to see anyone mentioning when it comes to parenting is how hard it can be for both parents to agree on how to do things and act consistently with each other. To this day, there are still things where I think we should take one approach and my wife thinks we should take a different one. There are areas where I suck and she is great and vice versa. Things get a lot more difficult when parents aren't consistent with each other and just like with kids, each parent has their own personality and style and they won't always mesh well with that of the other parent.

And just like with dogs, rubbing their nose in their own poop is a good way to get them to stop shitting on the floor. Yeah, something tells me that plan would backfire and instead they would end up on message boards telling other people without kids that they will never understand what it's like to try to raise kids. And I'll admit, I definitely held the same strong opinions about effective parenting that many others have. Then I had kids and realized I was a fucking fool.
-
I have to assume you don't have kids because if you did, you would know that these seemingly obvious and logical things are a lot easier in theory than they are in reality. Obviously we try to do what you're saying. That's about as common sense as it gets. Just go have some kids and then get back to me on how easy it is to do all these things the right way.

Yes, Mushishi is really great. I still need to catch up on the most recent episodes though. Okay, then it looks like I'll be watching Clannad next (assuming it's on Hulu or Netflix)! Those types of things don't bother me at all. -

I finished listening. A couple thoughts: 1. Full Metal Alchemist didn't click all that much with me either. It was good enough for me to get through it all but I felt like a lot of it was a little too childish and predictable. Those last 10-15 episodes were pretty good though so I was happy that I stuck through till the end. 2. I was actually recently looking for a good tear-jerker anime to get into and saw a lot of people praising Clannad After Story as the tear-jerkiest of all tear-jerkers. It sounded like one of you mentioned Clannad in a positive light so... should I watch it? Any major bugaboos I should be aware of? -
Yay, pinned now! Thank you Doug and thanks again JonCole for starting this thread!

When you guys started talking about "Gorilla Guy", this is the first and only face that came to mind. It was cool hearing all of your voices and I think the episode turned out well! -
NNID: Zeusthecat I finally managed to snag it without having to put x's or other dumb shit around my tag.

Lately I've become super sensitive to that vinegar smell that a lot of cheap bread gets when it is nearing its expiration. We were buying only the good fresh bread for awhile and reverted back to getting some of the cheap stuff out of convenience. I opened a bag of Sara Lee bagels the other day and it smelled like a combination of vinegar and moldy cheese. I contemplated for a full minute whether I should put a bagel into the toaster before ultimately deciding to toss them.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Just watch all the dream sequences from the game on YouTube. Those were easily the best part of the game. I enjoyed the rest of it just fine but those were exceptionally well done. -
Good luck! That shit is way way harder than you would think. And just like adults, sometimes they are just not in the mood for a thing they ate and loved the previous day. You would think making macaroni and cheese would be a surefire way to have a nice evening with no complaining. But then you give it to them and they say they don't want it. So you try melting some shredded cheese on top to make it more tasty and gooey and they still refuse. So then you put your foot down and tell them they have no choice and they must eat it. But for some reason, they don't listen to your demands and just sit there staring at their food in disgust for 20 minutes. Then you threaten to take a toy away unless they eat their food and that causes them to start having a meltdown. As things escalate you find out that eating macaroni on this night will be the most painful, traumatizing thing they could imagine and that everything would be fine if they could just have chips and salsa for dinner. You then realize that you have a decision to make that will determine the fate of the rest of your evening. You either double down and force them to eat the macaroni, resulting in the worst night you could imagine. Or you could let them have the chips and salsa and then have a nice evening where everyone is happy and the kids go to bed without issue. Then you remember that salsa is made from tomatoes and tomatoes are good for you. Why not just let them have chips and salsa? IT'S GOOD FOR THEM AFTER ALL RIGHT??? So yeah, my daughter had chips and salsa for dinner last night. Don't judge.

I got the 3D World/Nintendoland WiiU bundle today. Good times have already been had.

I've watched The Gruffalo about a dozen times with my kids over the last two weeks. It is a goddamn masterpiece and I could watch it every day for the rest of my life and not get sick of it.
-
I got together with a couple coworkers last night and we spent the whole night playing Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8. It was my first experience playing the Wii U and I must say I am very impressed. Both of those games just ooze happiness and charm and I now want to live in the Mario universe forever. Even the smoke effects are full of charm. So I'll probably pick up the 3D World bundle sometime very soon.

Running that raid today was an absolute blast. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it. Sorry I had to stay muted through parts of it. My kids were being a little rowdy and I didn't want to interrupt communication. A few of us continued on and did the weekly heroic and nightfall strikes and managed to get through without too much trouble. That new strike is pretty solid. If anyone else is up for it, I wouldn't mind trying to make this a semi regular thing. I still want to run Crota's End and try some hard mode as well. I think I can commit to being available most Saturdays around the same time we started today.

She has beaten a couple levels from lost levels but hasn't played too much. That one's a bit too difficult. And she's played some Mario 2 a bit too. She seems to like it but hasn't quite gotten used to the mechanics.
-
We are actually. She just loves playing those levels over and over

The last couple months, my 6 year old daughter has been playing a ton of Super Mario Bros and has improved quite a lot from when I last posted. She is now consistently getting from 1-1 all the way through 4-3. Through the use of warp pipes she's also jumped ahead and beat all of the non Bowser levels of worlds 5 and 6 as well as 7-1 and 7-2 and I think 8-1. It's pretty incredible to think that not too long ago I was watching her beat 1-1 for the first time and now she is able to get through like 80% of the levels in the game. Soon her training will be complete and she will be ready to start destroying every game she plays. Also, she's taken to LittleBigPlanet really well and has managed to easily keep up with me even through the later levels.
-
Whoa, those are some eloquent words I said there. You sure that was me?
-
Well I managed to get through all the HoW story missions and hit level 31 last night. Surprisingly, those were some pretty solid missions! Especially the last one.
-
Yep, I'll be on at that time. Anything I need to do to prep for it? This will be my first raid.
