That all sounds really great! A slight bummer though that time doesn't stop while you're inside. Does time still move at the same breakneck pace that it did in previous games or do you feel that it moves at a reasonable enough pace that you can get your chores done and do some exploring in a single day without driving your character to exhaustion?

Oh awesome, that's good to hear! I've been thinking about Harvest Moon lately and have kind of had the urge to jump back in to my Magical Melody save that I haven't touched in about a decade. But maybe I'll pick this up instead. Have you played previous Harvest Moon games and if so how do you think this one stacks up?

I've known a few people that have switched to trackballs and swear up and down that they are better and more precise than standard mice. Personally, I'm not very good at FPS's with any kb+m setup. I feel like I can't get precise enough movements with my wrist and hand controlling the looking movements and I have a really hard time finding my perfect DPI sweet spot. I'm almost always either under or over aiming and then my hand is sometimes resting halfway off the mouse pad and it feels weird. A controller feels just right to me though. I've had almost 20 years of training now on how to look around using my thumb on an analog stick and I think it will always feel like the more natural way to control looking for me.
-
Now what kind of mouse are we talking about here? Trackball? Laser? Mario Paint mouse? I'll reiterate what I've said before. If they could make a controller that replaced the right thumbstick with a trackball, this debate would be over.

Ah, I didn't realize iron sights also did the sticky thing on pc games. I'm surprised the pc master race would allow any kind of auto aim mechanic to exist.
-
This may be obvious but since you don't typically play on consoles, I think it bears mentioning that if you are aiming near an enemy, pressing the left trigger will do a mini snap to the enemy. So if things are frantic and you are missing a lot because you can't line up your shots, aim near the enemy and press the left trigger followed immediately by the right trigger to get a shot off right as you snap to the enemy. My accuracy in modern first person shooters improved a lot once I forced myself to get into the rhythm of always scoping in a split second before I fired my shot. Again, sorry if this is totally obvious noob bullshit.

I was reading a recent article on Polygon highlighting some of the quest/bounty improvements that will be implemented for the next expansion and made the mistake of scrolling down to the comments. They were (predictably) overwhelmingly full of people talking about how terrible the game is and how betrayed they feel by Bungie and how this game is horribly broken and blah blah blah. It's really nothing new and pretty much any article I've ever read about Destiny that happens to have a comment section is the same. I honestly don't think I've seen anything quite like this before where a game is so massively popular and clearly enjoyed by a ton of people but that also has a massive contingent of haters that somehow manages to completely dominate any discussion of the game outside of dedicated Destiny fan sites. I swear, I went through that comment section in the Polygon article and of the 50 some-odd comments, probably at least 90% of them were negative. It's palpable enough that even I'm starting to wonder if I'm somehow under a (space) wizard's spell that makes it impossible for me to truly appreciate the severity of the atrocities that Bungie has committed with this game. I'm not really trying to make any kind of point with this post. It's just become fascinating to me that I've had some of the best FPS experiences I've ever had playing Destiny and yet if you were to read anything about it on the internet, chances are you would come away with the impression that it is one of the worst games out there right now and is a total scam. I just really wonder what it is about Destiny in particular that has inspired so much hate in so many people.

I need someone to tell me if those weird Shia Labeouf "just do it" videos are supposed to be funny. Or is the idea supposed to be that they are funny because of how unfunny they are? Or is it neither and we are just supposed to talk about them and pretend they are clever? I realize I am rapidly descending into full blown old man territory here but I'm starting to have a hard time comprehending how some of these types of things become full blown memes. Kids these days.

We just finished the Tiny Tina DLC for Borderlands 2 last night. I really like the music for the main town area. Also, the Tiny Tina DLC was really good. My apologies if this was already posted somewhere.

Yeah, that's totally fair and I like your perspective. Even with that interpretation though it's hard to get past a lot of that teen drama. I guess having a love pentagon/triangle basically being the cause of most of their woes towards each other felt really uninspired and cliche.

That's a pretty good observation and maybe there wasn't as much thought put into it as I had hoped. It's kind of a glaring inconsistency if she is literally the only character with any variability between her emotion characters.

We'll see how it goes. Between Kids on the Slope and this, I'm coming to realize that I have a pretty strong disdain for shows that focus too much on juvenile romance and high school drama. There are things I really liked about Kids on the Slope but seeing dumb immature kids acting like dumb immature kids is really grating. I probably would have loved that kind of stuff when I was like 15 or 16 though. As far as what I find emotionally affecting, it is really hit or miss and just comes down to my current mood and how invested I am in whatever I'm watching. I'm not sure if there's really any rhyme or reason as to why some things hit for me and some things don't. There were certain parts in some of the earlier episodes of Attack on Titan that almost had me bawling. Steins;Gate had me regularly shedding tears, especially in the last few episodes. There were even a few episodes of Space Dandy that had me a little choked up (especially that World Without Sadness episode; that one was really powerful for some reason). But then shows like Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, and Ghost in the Shell had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever. There should have been some tears but they never came.

Idle Thumbs 218: Yanis' Last Move
Zeusthecat replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I really hope we get the Star Wars Prequel remakes in 2019. And I hope Disney just gives George Lucas full control of all creative decisions. Could he possibly make the movies even worse than they already are? Or would making them worse actually somehow make them better? I'm sad that we'll never know the answer to these questions. -
My daughter and I are on Champion Road right now and have about a week's worth of attempts down with nothing to show for it. This is a really tough one. I can consistently get past the first two sections where the blocks alternate between blue and red but haven't made it any further than that yet. Up until that point though, my brain has become hardwired to pretty much nail every jump with pinpoint precision. It's definitely one of those levels that is impossible at first, but as you memorize the timing of everything you need to do, you can just breeze through all of it. So far at least...

I'm maybe 5 or 6 episodes into Clannad and it is kind of boring me to death. I am only watching this for the harvest of tears it will allegedly produce at some point but so far it seems kind of dumb. It's not exactly terrible, there's just not much of anything going on. Luckily, it looks like one of their friends may actually be a ghost.

I noticed at one point that it seems like every scene that takes place while the characters are in "The Matrix" has a green hue to it while every scene that takes place while they are in the real world has a blue hue. That has kind of bothered me ever since.

Regarding Inside Out, I've kind of gone back and forth on how I feel about the gender representation and what their intentions were and I've thought quite a bit about it. I think I generally feel like they did a good job with gender representation and their only major misstep was with the whole "sameface/samebody" thing. It immediately jumped out to me that her mom had all female emotions and her dad had all male emotions whereas she had a mix of male and female. At first glance, I assumed they did that in an attempt to make it less "girly" so the movie would have a more broad appeal. But the more I've thought about it, I kind of wonder if it was done intentionally to illustrate that she doesn't conform as much to traditional gender roles as her parents do. The mom and dad were both kind of represented as traditional parents fulfilling their traditional gender roles (as is pretty clearly evidenced by the dinner table scene) whereas Riley seemed to have a mix of characteristics that one might consider to be more "male" or "female". For instance, she's really into hockey and competing (which a lot of people might see as a more "male" activity) but at the same time she still has the whole "imaginary perfect boyfriend" fantasy. I'd be really curious to know what the creator's intentions were behind some of those decisions because it could either be a pretty positive representation of Riley as far as gender goes or it could just be a tone deaf thing they did so that the movie would be more appealing to boys.

Yes, we're pretty much all on PS4 and the bestest of friends. I hope you take the plunge and join us.

Well, I am one of those freaks that uses inverted controls.

I really didn't think much of this game before hitting level cap and even for awhile afterwards it wasn't doing much for me. But once I convinced a friend to start playing with me and started playing regularly with a full fireteam, it became one of my favorite first person shooters. And since House of Wolves hit I haven't been able to put it down. The various challenges and rewards are just too delicious. I'm glad the demo was able to rope you in osmosisch but it's still kind of a bummer to think of someone deciding whether or not to buy based on that content. I have a co-worker who played a few hours of the alpha and has refused to touch it or reconsider it since because those few hours of super early content wasn't exciting enough for him. This game is all about the endgame content. And luckily, it doesn't really take too long to reach that point any more.

Still patiently waiting for the Thorn bounty to drop. I feel like I'm the only person who still doesn't have one. Also, Gjallarhorn would be nice. I'm kind of excited to try Vault of Glass again now, especially after seeing that clip Jon just linked. Fatebringer + Praetorian Foil + Super Good Advice sounds like a pretty solid trifecta for taking down Oracles.

Oh haha, I forgot you literally just posted that before me. Okay, so maybe there is a small use case for that one.
