  1. The conversation between Michael Davis and GamerBats in the comments was an enjoyable read.I haven't played it yet, but I hope the developer put in a 1 in 10million chance that the operator gets the call.
  2. I enjoyed this prompt to listen to the sound-design of Mirror's Edge. https://criticalswitch.bandcamp.com/track/mirrors-edge-the-landscape-of-sound
  3. Truck Nuts reminds me of my desire to be an inconsiderate douchebag. When I see someone speed down the road dangerously and loudly in a vehicle that has no interest in fuel-efficiency, throwing beer-bottles at road-signs, I envy them for a moment. This moment is theirs. I have a very real desire to stop being considerate in all of my actions. It's real in the sense that I think it looks glamorous and fun, but it is an unrealistic fantasy not only because I fear being caught by the authorities, but more importantly, when someone gets hurt because of my erratic driving and aggressive littering I'll have known better. My wholistic understanding of that bravado includes the part where someone has to go to the fucking store and pay $20 for another mailbox and feel the directionless anger involved in that as they clean up other people's trash.
  4. Amateur Game Making Night

It says your video is "private".
  5. Unity Questions Thread

This isn't a question, I'm just excited about having a break-through. I've long understood that having a lot of gameObjects slows things down, but it wasn't until re-reading Chapter 1 of The Nature Of Code today that I understood how to avoid that. The idea is to have one gameObject that has an array of a class, each instance of which is rendered (or makes a sound or whatever) when an update occurs. I don't think I explained it well, but I finaly get it.
  6. Posting Processing games to Itch.io

I don't understand some stuff. So Unity doesn't work on Chrome anymore because they are dropping Java plug-ins (from what I understand). But it looks like Processing projects that are converted to Processing.js projects and then exported as HTML files will still work, yes? So Processing should continue to work on Chrome right?
  7. Pixel art has so much baggage for me. It's hard for me to see it without the context of retro games. Cross-stitch may be the answer. I was hoping that y'all could tell me or point me in the right direction so that I could start to understand the inherent aesthetics of pixel-art. There is something to it more than nostalgia.
  8. It seems strange that no one has come out with Factory Farm Simulator 201*. It seems like a perfect match. Environmental design that minimizes time between calving and being connected to the milking machine. Experimenting with the right mixture of antibiotics to keep them producing high yields. How is this not a thing? PETA has to be working on this right?
  9. What's so special about pixel art?

Here are my thoughts: That was a fantastic article. I learned more information about pixel art than I knew there was information to learn.
  10. I just saw a Flappy Bird arcade machine.
  11. I had a hard time navigating this one. Not only is there a combination of mouse-controls and directional keys, but I think you have to exit the second scene from the top.
  12. For the week of May 11th, 2015 we will be playing: Truck Nuts by thecatamites You can play the game in your browser here. You can download the single game from here for free Or you can buy the entire collection of 50 games from here.
  13. In the notes included with 50 Short Games, thecatamites explains that the Yeats excerpt was intended as an example of cultural detritus that they were exposed to (I'm paraphrasing). That doesn't stop the quotation from having a huge influence on my reading of Donald Fuck. The particular line from the poem that is chosen seems so incredibly relevant to the rest of the game that I can't ignore it (and I have no desire to do so). Once out of nature I shall never take My bodily form from any natural thing, I think this line of the poem is a reference to the agelessness of culture and knowledge. I see Yeats wanting to infuse their self with grand artificiality of human creation. Something less temporal than the cycle of life or a youthful lust that is eventually satisfied or forgotten. I'd say that Yeats was successful in managing to do that. In Donald Fuck, I see the author enjoying using the lines from the poem to contrast the grandoise ambitions they originally implied with the banal reality of how the protagonist's self is being infused with the artificiality of culture. Instead of putting themself into the great golden works of Byzantium, they find themselves made partly of the monsters from Doom, neighborhoods, and hissing sprinklers. I miss walking everywhere. I used to identify myself with the ritual of walking paths. Now it's mostly Kpop, computer-games, and books on self-improvement/esoteria from the 80's. That's fine too. I'm fine.
  14. Pinball Club

@Increpare made a thing where you can draw pinball-tables in a MsPaint-like. It's pretty fun, especially for someone like myself who has always been interested in trying some playfield designs out. Here is one I just made. Left and right arrows for flippers, down arrow for plunger, up arrow for upwardish nudge, 'R' for restart.
  15. Stealing

Right now I'm trying to modify a photo of a mocking bird beyond recognition, but then I decided to check the copyright stuff on doing that and found this. http://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/19341/using-a-picture-which-had-been-modified-beyond-recognition-is-that-copyright-in I suppose I've already made it clear what I think about stuff like this, but I just feel compelled to say that I think this is bullshit. Copyright law is stupid. It encourages disingeniuty because it's ridiculous. This is just a game about not getting caught at this point.
  16. Stealing

I can't tell if the issue is gettin that money or if the original artists are devaluing the use of their stuff by others. http://noisey.vice.com/blog/we-interviewed-bob-james-hip-hops-unlikely-godfather He admits that no one cared about his stupid song in 1974. I think he should be thanking these hip-hop artists rather than charging them and suing if they don't pay. http://gothamcityesq.com/case-at-hand/jazz-legend-bob-james-sues-hip-hop-producer-madlib-for-copyright-infringement-over-sampling-issue/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4e4_OylWeE
  17. Stealing

I'm working on something with a glitch-aesthetic. My method of getting a color-palette is looking up "glitch" on Tumblr and making color-swatches from the ones that look like they are using a glitchy pallete. Things like color-separation from VHS.
  18. Stealing

Would any of y'all empathize with an artist who gets pissed because their color-pallette was used by someone else when credit was given, but no compensation or permission occurred?
  19. Garden Warfare

I picked up Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare from the Origin Humble Bundle. My initial impressions, what a strange, well-polished class-based game with commercial brand flavor. I'm just learning what everything does, and coming in late to release, it's really odd to see this mix of in-game currency, micro-transactions and Cheetos-sponsored content. It's alright. As far as gameplay goes, it's interesting to see how the slow movement speed, mixes with the revival mechanic to encourage sticking with teammates to create frontlines and control elevated positions.
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    Where did @fengxii go?
  21. New people: Read this, say hi.

Can you put up the itunes link, I can't find it through the search.

    What is your podcast?
  23. Simbiotik and I are working on a game based off of this title. Simbiotik is in charge of visual-art and I am implimenting the assets into TyranoBuilder (a drag&drop visual-novel engine). Here is the concept-prototype that we are currently working from. https://s3.amazonaws.com/tyrano/2015-4-10-IKnowYouAreHavingFun/index.html Note: should be playable on browser including tablet and phone browsers. We definitely need a sound-person to be in charge of making (or arranging to be made) music and sound-effects. The specific sounds and musical-feel needed will need to be coordinated with the backgrounds Simbiotik puts in and any particular events we end up putting writing in. For instance, if Simbiotik puts an elephant in the game, then we will need elephant sounds. If we decide that someone pops bubble-wrap during the course of the game, we will need bubble-wrap popping sounds. Also, if you feel that you have something to contribute to this project that isn't sound, please post here. It would be nice to involve people with little or no game-making experience.
