The new episode of Frontline documents an underground railroad to get captured Yazidi out of Isis territory. It's about an hour long. Trigger warning: lots of first-hand accounts of rape. I think there is also video of executions (I covered my eyes because it's obvious that it is coming).

Would that make them the hostess with the mostest?I believe it would.

Yet again a metaphor used to describe perceived slights against white, heterosexual, cismen is actually a real injustice that a minority group actually faces.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7757996 I hadn't considered how odd it is that the racist murderer who killed all those folks in the Charleston church included defense of white women's bodies as motivation to kill black women.

Thinking of the assumptions necessary to get to this perspective frightens me.Edit: ok, I looked at some later tweets and he atleast felt the need to look like he was diluting his claim. I guess that is somewhat comforting.

Maybe the pitch could include how mechanics are the focus and how it won't be glutted up with a narrative and the aesthetics will be purely servicable to the mechanics. You can include anectdotes about why the dodge was tuned to take exactly 4/5ths the time it takes to reload the shotgun. You know? Like "If the melee attack took a fraction of a second longer, this game would completely break" type of thing. That's a theme and aesthetic in itself that some folks might be attracted to. It's not my thing, but you seem really confident about your priorities. I do like it when authors focus on their passions so that I can see how faiths different than my own resolve.

How about "The Minesweeper or 3rd Person Shooters"? Typing that made me realize that even Minesweeper implies a fantasy of danger and duty.

I wonder if Russia and Iran have enough influence over Assad to provide him with an elegant exit in an opportune moment. Seems like a situation where Russia and Iran want Assad out of power could be the beginning of stabilization.

I'm so impressed with this negotiation. There has been more political will to go to war with Iran in the U.S. than there has been to even start diplomatic negotiations for a long time. I'm very pleased with President Obama's and the current Iranian leadership's ability to de-escalate the situation for the first time in my lifetime. I've heard concerns that this can make the situation on Syria worse, but I don't see why it couldn't make it better. Having a relationship with Iran and benefits of that relationship which can be used as leverage could have a positive impact to the possibility of a diplomatic solution in Syria. I'm just really proud of the Obama administration right now. I didn't think this type of this was even possible.

I have a cynical question. Why aren't covert operatives forming violent coups or assasinating the democatically elected leadership so that they can get the deals they want (like in South American countries, Hawaii or Iran). What makes this situation with Greece different? Is it because the EU membership has enough leverage to get what global-capital wants without actual acts of explicit violence?

I've been putting an extra week of slack between some of the games when there hasn't been any discussion and I'm not in the mood to write yet. I didn't know there was a 51st game. We will have to look into that. gamesthatexist mentioned wanting to look at the menu-screens a few months ago. I'd like to see what he has to say about them at some point. Also, as far as catching up goes, if you post about any of the games, I'll likely read it.

This is a neat free tool that allows you to make boxy 3d models, paint them, and import both into Unity fairly quickly and easily. http://ephtracy.github.io/

Lotus-eater stories often engage my personal paranoias which consist of concerns that I have managed to inobligate myself from duties far enough to become obsessed with distraction; and here I am routinely reading, writing, playing, and thinking about computer games. I often lose my concentration while playing a game, due to a hallucination that there is something else of importance that I should be doing. My capacity to engage in the medium is so great, that I know I may stop paying attention to my true purpose, whatever that is. I could lose years to it. What comforts me in these moments of panic is that I'm not really supposed to be doing anything particular, atleast nothing that I'm neglecting in my daily existence. Candy Planet shows one of the more revealing parts of this process by being completely focused on the dangers of lotus-eating, while never mentioning the reason they are orbiting a candy planet in the first place. The star-log implies that they have some form of duty, but that goal is never mentioned. I see this being similar to how I can think about all the damaging details of my guilty pleasures, while never coming close to considering specifics of the righteous missed opportunity which my resistance to pleasure needs legitimization from.. In my personal experience, candy planets are dangerous not because of their ability to distract from a mission, but because they dull you from perceiving dangers. You and your roomates can be so drunk that you won't wake up when someone is destroying all the musical instruments in the basement, snapping a collection of vinyl in half, and throwing your couch into the yard after a party. You can be comfortable enough with a friend that habitual abuses of power and general violent tendencies can be considered harmless until something really bad happens. But this is true of all non-eventful lengths of time. The advantages of heroic journies like the Odyssey are that there are explicit goals, that one can become apathetic to, and the boring parts can all be edited out. In times of peace, and with the scope of modern society, grand goals of thankless, isolating, matyrdom can be nulled out by none-of-your-business status. I want to mention the way the camera, ship, landscape, and persons relate in the course of Candy Planet. At first it seems that the ship is our focal anchor as we watch disembarkers lack the ability to keep pace due to collisions with the landscape and the attraction to candy-induced sedentarism. I think of the ship representing the means and goals of duty, the folks as instances of human tendency and circumstance, and the landscape as reality. The way the newer arrivals make more progress by default as their original purpose falls away and everyone eventually settles on simple pleasures, reminds me of generational tendencies. We lose vision of the ship entirely and our reason for seeing this all unfold dissolves.

This is an hour-long documentary showing the military-training of some Kurdish girls who have volunteered to leave their families to fight terrorists that threaten them. It's pretty intense, but not in a trigger-warning kinda way. It's just really intense.

It's great, I look forward to hearing more.

Supposedly Sprite Tile on the asset-store is supposed to create tile-based terrarains which would (I assume) make terrain generation much easier if you are going for a certain style. I bought it, but I haven't played around with it yet.

I'd be willing to do it again. It was a pretty low investment. Not tonight though.

@Patrick R One thing I find interesting about your song is that I feel confident in my assumptions about what your particular performance capacity was on a Tuesday evening. What I mean is, your song seems to have an intended energy-level mostly denoted by speed and velocity; this subtly contrasts with a hurriedness I sense (maybe it's because I read about you having to go pick your partner up from the airport). I imagine that all the submissions were in fact hurried, but it gives your song this feeling of playing a live song on the radio-station while being a little but late for a venue. I agree with you that my song should be expanded by making it longer. As I listen back to it, I keep thinking that I need to half the time to stretch out what I have. Maybe once I do that, leads or additional chord-textures would fit in more easily.
-
I enjoy the permutations of the lead chords in the late section of 2 minutes. How do you make your file show up in the post like that? Also I like how the wind contextualizes the need of a heater. I added some string chords to mine. I'm not sure if I'll be able to improve this with a lead, but I'm going to experiment with laying something on top for a while until it's time to give up or I find something that works. https://soundcloud.com/clydebink/heaters-gonna-heatwip2 Edit 3 hours in: Yeah. I painted myself into a corner on this one. I can't add anything onto it. I don't know enough about music to know why it doesn't sound right to add anything on. I think that my process is usually to add layers in the order of simple-to-complex; I used a timbre(?) that is good for my simple-range to write the melody and now anything I add onto it just sounds like someone jamming out on top. I'm happy enough with it as it is though. I'm going to stop because I'm sleepy.

This is what I have so far. https://soundcloud.com/clydebink/heaters-gonna-heatwip

Here is a friendly reminder that you can make a song in 4 hours tonight and then submit it here while others hopefully do the same!

I'm reading stuff about videocards and it looks like the AMD 390 is both more performative and less expensive than the GTX970. Am I missing some information? Again remember, I'm doing this for VR.

I thought this cynical take on Sonic 1(?) was pretty funny. http://gamejolt.com/games/sunky-the-game/68222
