I wonder if the November election in Burma will make any progress. I just watched a documentary on the Saffron Revolution. It would be nice if those peaceful protests pay off.

I wonder if I can train myself to use vocal fry. Edit: I just tried it and it sounded so fake. That's hard.

I like hitting a nice long shot and then directional padding "nice shot" while it's still in the air. It's so deliciously vain. The possibility of missing after that complements the situation for a nice risk/reward.

The "You gotta be kidding me" was me using my inside-voice (I was just thinking it). But yes, I leave chat on. The directional-pad chat in Rocket League is actually pretty useful to me. "Defending" and "I got it" before the kick-off is helpful. I hope to eventually be able to say "Centering" when doing so, but that is beyond my current abilities.

I went into a ranked match, a teammate messages "I got this" and two competitors immediately drop from the match (suspicious). I'm like "You gotta be kidding me." Then I typed "I'll be the opposing team's goalie so we can have an interesting match." After being the opposing team's goalie for a little while, person who messaged "I got this" may have rage-quit. So then my team lost the 2v1 match as we tried to catch back up in the last minute. Justice has got a really nice kick to it, so it don't always go down smooth, but that shit is so potent.

Even as goalie, you can play aggressively. I've gotten pretty good at conceptualizing the trajectory of the ball when the other team clears it and I'm totally willing to dribble it back to their goal, especially when everyone else is facing my goal in an attempt to chase the cleared ball.

Glorious Trainwrecks is in a Knytt Stories phase, so I'm playing a good amount of user-created levels while I try to figure out how to express myself with platformers. I kept seeing people on the internet recommend one called Don't Eat the Mushroom and I just now played it. It was both innovative and joyful. I recommend it. I've attached a gif to show y'all how to install custom levels. -Basically you want to download Knytt Stories from here. -Then download Don't Eat the Mushroom from here. -Then do this: If you end up wanting to try your own hand at making a level here is a good guide that can get you started. Make sure you tell me if you make one! (or just submit it on Glorious Trainwrecks). The thing I like about making Knytt games is that most of my time is spent just flipping through beautiful tile-sheets and trying out combinations of them. It's like trying to match wall-paper and curtains.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
clyde replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
I used the Windows compatibility tool for Knytt Stories world-manager (first time I've used a Windows compatibilty-tool) and it worked! Next I need to try it on RPGMaker 2003. -
I'm starting to be able to reliably land aerial hits on balls that are just out of double-jump reach and the advantage my team gains in most matches is significant. I've been playing 30 hours or so now, but in addition to that I started going for the aerials regularly when a teammate will still be in a good position if I miss. I'm getting good at it fairly quickly at this point.

I think I get it now. I'm pretty much repeating what has already been said but... the idea is that white women have the priviledge of thinking it is absurd enough that the men around them will be killed that they can make a joke about it comfortably, while this is not the case for many non-white women. That makes sense to me. It didn't make sense to me when I read the original article.
-
Well, I've had some valuable interactions with you so that trumps my pet-peave. Where I come from, people rephrase jokes and repeat them to each other over and over again and enjoy the playfulness of the banter and mutual appreciation of the understanding of the joke so being demeaned by it is strange to me. To me, it's as if someone makes a joke and then gives the audience a grimmacing face of disapproval because they laughed at it while not being cool enough.
-
Personally, I think that particular point in the article is pretty weak. I've heard it mentioned elsewhere that saying "Kill all men" tends to be treated differently when a white woman says it than when a black woman does; that point seems more believable to me and could just be pointed out to demonstrate the need for intersectional feminism. To be honest the point that bothers me the most in this article is the assumption that a man repeating a feminist-joke with a rephrase is demeaning. I appreciate the author letting me know that they percieve it that way and that many others do, but it just makes me not want to have any interaction with folks who are demeaned by attempts at friendly responses (they seem to not want to interact with me so it works out well).

I hope Chris Remo has a chance to encounter the vault of his own creation when playing Fallout 4.

People tend to want to believe things that support their positions on hot topics so that they will fit convincingly into the group they identify with. I'm not really condemning them, I'm that way too.

I agree with you Ninety-Three. I think the term "disempowerment" tends to be used to describe a game against its contemporaries more than describing an ability-arch within the game.

Idle Thumbs 221: Meet the Kerfluffles

That was a really fun episode. -
Have any of you seen Sleep Dealers? The premise of that movie seems more and more likely to me as time goes on.

Let's just go with this until it's proven otherwise.

I'd be interested to find out of the differently named AI is different in its behavior. I doubt it though. I like the idea of having opinions about certain AI teammates and playing through a season with them.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."

I didn't input any key. From what I understand, you just need to choose the upgrade path (not the clean install) once you download the tool, set everything up and then check in the settings to make sure your windows 10 license has been activated. Then you can do the "clean" install that is called something like "reset pc" (it's not so clean that it will remove your desktop background, but it is clean enough to fix my video-card driver problems). I didn't have any trouble with licensing when I did it the second or third time. I'm no expert though. -
Knytt Stories The Far Cry games usually have multiplayer map-editors. I know that Shadowrun Returns has one, but I haven't played with it. Kodu impressed me when I played around with it years ago. If you want to make a simple, browser based pinball table you can use PlingPling. If you want to make a point-and-click adventure that you can share with a generated weblink, I'd recommend giving FlickGame a try.

I like how the Twitter and Mail app throw notifications into my little Civ5 hopper on the right margin. In Windows 7, I kept a Twitter notifications tab and my Gmail tab open at all times in case someone sent me a message. -

Can she turn the volume down while you are in a non Windows-app game? That would be useful. I lack a shortcut to do that and the game will often close when I go back to the desktop to turn it down. -

I like that there is a 3D app along the lines of a 3D MS Paint. Something about the simplicity and the fact that it's distributed in the OS is inspirational for me. Here is a spiky tree
