  1. Rainbow Six: Siege

So at this point I've played 67 hours of this game, I wanted to provide an update. I'll just list some thoughts: -I think today is the first day I've played where I felt the desire for new maps. I still haven't memorized all the destructible walls in the layouts or every possible entry point, but I certainly have familiarity with the most common pathways on all the maps. -I still enjoy the game a lot. -Everyday you get one new challenge that rewards you with an xp-bonus equal to an extra win. My daily-play has become focused on surmounting one of those challenges. I can only have 3 challenges in the queue at a time, so for maximum earning potential, I do an average of one challenge a day (so that I can get the next day's challenge in the queue). I don't usually pay attention to challenges with xp-bonuses in multiplayer shooters, but these are so general and advertised that I can't help but say to myself "I might as well use Ashley since it'll help me towards this 250xp bonus". I only play Terrorist Hunt when a challenge for it pops up. I actually enjoy playing Terrorist Hunt whenever I do, but it isn't thrilling at all for me. It's more of a casual shooty shooty thing to do on a lazy evening. And in case you are wondering why I care about earning xp, two new operators are supposed to come out in February and they are rumored to cost 25,000xp each; I have 40,000xp. -I only talk on mic when I am home alone. I rarely hear people on mic in casual providing relevant information unless I start doing so myself and others join in. Mic use in this game has made me reconsider my tendency to not use a mic in other multiplayer competitive shooters. I loaded up Titanfall the other day with the mic plugged in expecting that I would be just as chatty as I am in Rainbow Six: Siege but there was nothing I could tell my teammates that was of any use. In Rainbow Six: Siege, the advantage of having someone on mic is very apparent; they are announcing positions while operating cameras, telling you where and when they plan to breach, explaining how they died. Because of this, players tend to want other teammates to talk which is rare in games I've played. -I've never played Counter-Strike, but I played a lot of Shadowrun (2007). I think a lot of people are turned off by the fact that they will likely be watching other people play more than they will be playing themselves. I'm not, I think it's great. I got my beverage and my phone and if the game isn't interesting I check twitter or read an article, if the game is interesting then I am watching it like other people watch sports. I can see why someone might think that a game is less enjoyable if it requires something to do in the down-time, but I really enjoy the part when I'm dead. Rounds are (4min?) long at max to put pressure on the attackers. It only feels like things are taking too long if someone is AFK and so we kick them. -I find myself wanting to capture video of me playing, but I quickly realize that viewers who don't play the game wouldn't really see what is going on. If you aren't intimately familiar with the maps, then it just looks like two players seeing each other, both shooting and one of them dying. But those of us who play a lot are listening to which barricades are being blown in order to conceptualize what shape the attack is going to take. We know where the trapdoors are and where the roamers are likely to ambush us from. We know that a sound coming from a hole we made in the wall means we should open up on it. It's a lot of fluid information that requires an understanding of the map and I don't know how to communicate that in a game-play video. yup.
  2. 2-Hour Jam

A co-worker of mine slipped and fell off the tail-gate of a pick-up truck while performing duties at work yesterday. I suggested that he go through the official injury-reporting channels which he did, but I am not sure if I encouraged him to subject himself to being hassled more than necessary. It was on my mind last night.
  3. 2-Hour Jam

@EldinhoC (A.K.A. henry-e) made a game for the jam. Tiny Choice snakes and ladders
  4. Feminism

I thought this story of how Texas has destroyed their women's health infrastructure because they want to destroy Planned Parenthood was really interesting.
  5. Zunless Zee (Sunless Sea)

It's a good game for me to play when I'm half-way watching a movie or show with my wife. It doesn't demand a lot of attention and I find the flavor of the text intriguing for the same types of reasons I enjoy Porpentine's writing (super dense and evocative of surreal circumstances). So I kinda develop a plan in port, aim my ship, keep glancing over and pause it if anything interesting is happening on the television. Reading the same narrative over and over becomes less of a problem once you get used to where and when the new text will appear. It would be really nice if the text changed every time you revisited a port, but ... you know, it's whatevs. I think I like this game for the same reasons that other people like idle-games.
  6. Pinball Club

I think we should wait a week before the next tournament. I had a lot of fun playing Sorcerer's Lair this week, but I could see these tournaments becoming encumbering if there is always a tournament happening. I don't really want to wait more than a week though because I had so much fun playing last week; I'm really looking forward to doing this again. That said, we need to figure out how to nominate and/or chose tables because Sorcerer's Lair is the only free one. Of course no one is obligated to participate every week, but if we figure this out together we have a better chance of attracting more participants. Also tell me if I'm being too bossy.
  7. Amateur Game Making Night

I'm going to cram Blender during the month of February and I'm going to make progress-reports here to motivate me and show me that I am actually making progress. I think I'll do an entry every week. Right now I've successfully made, animated, and imported a model into Unity. Goals for the week of February 1st 2016: This week I'm going to concentrate on learning how to paint UVs and properly import the results into Blender.
  8. 2-Hour Jam

I still can't get Choir of Angles to download. But I was able to put Sixty Second Smash City into a collection and then download it through the itch.io desktop app. I can't do the same for Choir of Angles because it doesn't allow me to put it into a collection. I notice that dib's provided link includes "secret" in the link-address, maybe this is related to the issue? Anyways, Sixty Second Smash City was novel. I read the game as cyberpunk due to the car's design and its abilities. There is something that interests me about the slight but sudden loss of momentum matched with the low bit-rate collision-sound, and the deflection of the car. I think a lot of games are centered around collision in some way; this game makes me think there is a lot of potential in aiming for qualities besides fidelity and/or good-feel when tuning the way impacts play out.

I enjoy Bad Castle a lot. The compositions do a great job of evoking a fantastic adventure. The lighting-effect you managed within FlickGame's limitations (when approaching the castle) was notable btw.
  10. 2-Hour Jam

I'm done, I'm just uploading to the Scratch website which is a slightly different process when using the desktop editor. Edit: Ok, here it is: Champ Thinks of Nums.
  11. 2-Hour Jam

I'm going to start now. I was going to play y'alls first but I am having difficulty downloading them. I think it might be one of those problems which will solve itself if I wait a little while (2 hours for instance). edit: 50 minutes in, this is going well, I need to stop playing my game and add stuff.
  12. 2-Hour Jam

I don't have one either. I'm hoping that just looking at some of the default Scratch sprites will inspire me. This could go poorly. That'll be fine.
  13. Pinball Club

Not that I'm aware of. Do you have one in mind?
  14. I watched 3 twitch-streamers last night and I think they were all in the Dark Zone. On all three channels they were aimlessly roaming around city blocks looking for smaller groups of other players that they could pick fights with, assumably to get their stuff, but I didn't see them getting stuff. Is there more going on in the beta? I admittedly have no concept of what people are going to do in this game besides wht I just described above.
  15. 2-Hour Jam

Sweet. It's gonna get all nuuuped up in here. I have to go to work in 30 min, so I won't be making my game til after I get home and have dinner.
  16. 2-Hour Jam

The Jam is today. Find two hours (or so) and make a game. Late is fine, less than two hours is fine, more than two hours is fine (but part of the idea of a two hour jam is to limit scope. Maybe your game doesn't need that extra feature. Maybe it's kinda cool that it breaks like that). When you are finished, post the game here. If you have any questions or difficulties post here or contact me on Twitter @cafefiction. If you don't want to make an Idle Thumbs account, then tell me on Twitter and I'll post the link for you.
  17. I'm checking out Twitch streams and this seems really directionless.
  18. Far Cry PRIMAL

I was just scrolling through the topics and read this as "Farcry Pinball" for a moment. The super skillshot could be no-scoping an eagle.
  19. Mobile Gaming Discussion !

Thanks for this list. I'm surprised I haven't heard of the Magic Puzzle Quest. Also I'm interested in the Choice Of games, but it would be a lot easier to pick one if they had a free chapter to see if I respond well to the writing style.
  20. Zunless Zee (Sunless Sea)

The pacing takes some getting used to and at first you might expect new text to pop up more frequently than it will. -Returning to your port of origin will reduce your terror-level to 50.
  21. 3D Modeling

This tutorial was useful to me. I'm gearing up to binge on Blender for a bit. I just need to push myself for a while until I get familiar enough with it to bang something out when I need to.
  22. Idle Cook Club - Veggie Feeds-me: My Body Is Ready

Cm0nster's savory crepes tasted fine, but they were somehow lacking. I felt that the sauce was much, much more mild than ranch-dressing (which is what I would prefer). I suspect that this dish would benefit from a nice cheese, but I'm not sure which one.
  23. Pinball Club

@Dewar Don't take my fanfic too seriously. I'm just spending some of my time with the table developing a narrative. I'd love to hear whether or not it rings true for you and feel free to add to it. @Trip Hazard Congrats on getting to wizard-mode! That's an accomplishment.
  24. Pinball Club

I'm starting to consider the possibility that Whisper is actually one of the girl's (we will call her Kat) multiple-personalities (perhaps just an imaginary friend or role acted out by the Kat). Her twin brother has accepted that he has two sisters (Kat and Whisper) as long as he can remember and he depends on the existence of Whisper for certain tasks such as closing the gates of the Void (perhaps boredom or responsibilities that are viewed as meaningless). I think the Sorcerer's Lair may actually be a former insane-asylum that they wander for funsies looking for shiny stones. The sorcerer is just a personification of the voice of adult-authority which they assume they are in opposition to as they wander the grounds without permission. The tree interferes with Whisper somehow.
