I just finished Device 6. Don't read this unless you have too.
  2. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

    In regards to today's seed:
  3. What is game.

7 Grand Steps has that same feel, but I'm sure it's a different game. Tychocelchuuu already answered the question correctly though, if that wasn't clear.

I played Howling Dogs for the first time last night. It's notable that I would not have been receptive to it had I not been exposed to her symbolically rich, distilled concentrate word-style; not because Howling Dogs has a lot of it, but because Howling Dogs seems to take place in a world that is imagined by it. My favorite part of Howling Dogs was After I finished, my mind linked portions of the story non-chalantly and left me with the impression that I had just imbibed an allegory. Whether or not there was a message did not affect my favor, I was just pleased to have gotten such strong, unique tone from a short text adventure. But again, my receptiveness may have been conditional to the foundation that her tweets and her other games had layed down beforehand.
  5. Is Posting Threads Busted?

I was actually having a conversation last night about whether or not there are inherent masculine facial-features and inherent feminine-facial features. I suspect that there are not. I think that what I think of feminine facial features is the result of photoshopped ads and creepily selective casting. That said, I would hate for either Nick Breckon's or Porpentine's feelings to get hurt by reducing their identities with each other. I'm not convinced that this is happening here, but I think it's a valid concern. During the interview of Porpentine, Jonathan Holmes asked her off-handedly if she was "The Lady Gaga of games" and Porpentine said that she didn't like to be compared to other people because she is Porpentine. I was at a wedding once and a bunch of people got excited that I look just like someone else at the wedding. They wanted us to stand beside each other for a picture. It was kinda weird because we didn't think we looked like each other, but we didn't really take offense and everyone else seemed to be excited. I'm glad they took the picture because I think it's interesting that people think we look the same and i can look at it and feel the dissonance. I wonder if this is related to twins being mistaken for each other.

If you like the narrative aspect, you may really appreciate the Pinball FX2 tables that are currently the Humble Bundle. As ElMuerte and I have been discussing, the physics are not realistic; Pinball Arcade is a pinball-sim, while Pinball FX2 breaks realism for usability and spectacle. But the Pinball FX2 tables tend to have a strong narrative quality, especially if you are familiar with the Marvel Comics lore. For instance, on the Spiderman table you battle the Green Goblin by throwing his bombs back at him, defeat Dr. Octopus by weaving under his legs to tangle him up and defeat Mysterio by ignoring his illusions. I'm not gong to tell you what Mysterio's illusion is. The first time you find out. . .hehehehe. But Yeah, you may want to try the free table "Sorceror's Lair" first to see if the physics turn you off too much.

    Centaur's sound design is intense.

I pride myself on my ability to come up with good questions. So... "thank you."
  9. Feminism

Sounds like something I'd see on the thrift-store shelf.

By the way TychoCelchuuu, thanks for hipping me to Porp. As I've been playing a little bit of her games, reading a lot of her tweets and recently watching an interview with her that exposes her radical consideration, I've become a fan.

Simply put, Porpentine doesn't have time to do what she does AND show up for Idle Thumbs Episodes. Still, the best way to be sure is to have both Nick and Porpentine on the podcast and have both of them speak at the same time (without Steve there).
  12. Redshirt

I can see this being true for the majority of players who feel the need to optimize. But for people like myself, I don't want to always have experiences and stories which are about slowly gaining capability at just pace. I can appreciate a smooth difficulty slope, but I think there are life-experiences which games can relate well that either have difficulty spikes or no difficulty.
  13. Games of the FUTURE

I hadn't heard of Consortium, sounds interesting. I basically want to play a soap-opera. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/22/impressions-consortium-2/#more-177186
  14. Redshirt

Does it seem that the imbalance may be an intentional part of its rhetoric?
  15. GTA V

There is a GTA 5 landscape photography Facebook group. http://www.flickr.com/groups/landscapesoflossantos/pool/with/10336526203/
  16. Life

Also: never put new batteries in with old ones or use a mixture of rechargables and alkaline.
  17. iOS Gaming

That's rather disappointing. Thanks for telling me though. I came up with better puzzles than that by trying to solve it; pshaw.
  18. iOS Gaming

I give up. I gave it a lot of time and thought. I have no idea how to solve the link test in chapter 4. I give up.
  19. It's interesting to hear about all this added content.
  20. Nah, it's cool, I was just trying to makes something interesting to excavate. It's nice to hear that its intended purpose was achieved. Thanks.
  21. iOS Gaming

Thanks, that was the support I was looking for.
  22. iOS Gaming

Device 6: I don't want a hint yet, I just need some faith. The language-test in Chapter 4, is it significantly harder than everything else so far? Or do I just need to take a nap and look at it again?
